Northern Saskatchewan lies in a state of true wilderness, this is deep, far-flung wilderness as it lies in the northern reaches of Canada and is well off the road system. With our outfitting readied for portaging, we'd start our 14-day whitewater canoe trip down the Porcupine River after a long drive that ended with a 9-hour stretch on a bumpy, gravel road. Finally, a bush plane deposited us near the Northwest Territories border at a remote, fly-in fishing lodge where we began our trip. It was me, my wife Tori and our dog Buck on this adventure and it was one for the books. The Porcupine is an awesome whitewater river which is more like a chain of beautiful lakes that are connected by small sections of whitewater. The weather wasn't on our side and we had some cold wet days but the scenery was absolutely beautiful and the pike fishing was excellent.
I did this trip in 2016 in between my 75-day stint on History Channel's ALONE a and my 36-day solo crossing of the Ungava Peninsula earlier that April.

pleeeeease....say this just a teaser of the 6 HOUR upload your working on..!!!!! ??
I read a book called " The Lonely Land " By Sigurd F Olsen, he did a nice canoe trip up there back in the 60s? Anyhow, that book was my introduction to wilderness canoeing...
What a trip!!! Beautiful area. Having so much fun. Thank you for this video.
You’re a lucky man, Jim. Not many have a partner with the desire to be, and love for the outdoors.
Indeed I am, thanks a lot.
I'm 71, so the voice of experience tells you that training and skills are everything. There have been three divorces from my canoe trips, not my own thankfully.
What a trooper Tory is. You are one lucky guy.
Thanks very much! Ya, she is the best. She just got back from a challanging seven day solo trip innTemagami, well she had a friend there but they both soloed their own canoes. She loves this stuff snd even runs backcountry camping and paddling workshops geared towards women. www.paddlelikeagirl.com
I cannot believe how beautiful and seemingly untouched northern Saskatchewan is. Tori, Buck and yourself really brought all your viewers a river travel and survival experience like no other. Bet that first hot bath when you finally got home felt awesome. Keep up the great adventure vlogging Jim and best regards to your adventure team.
Thanks very much and ya, it was nice to get some creature comforts in after a trip like this, particularly because of the miserable weather we dealt with. It is a beautiful area, and very wild too but has an interesting human history of indigenous Dene travellers, fur traders, missionaries etc.
14 days of crap weather, exertion, stress, no shower, no hair done, no makeup and your wife looks absolutely gorgeous.
Thanks for the very kind comment and yes, I would agree.
Spot on comment. Nice to see you do this as a couple (plus pooch).
Life is too short, keep making the most of it you excellent people.
BAIRD AND WIFE A THOUSAND CONGRATULATIONS FOR SHOWING US THAT BEAUTIFUL TRIP my wife and my children and I spent almost an hour and a half watching this feat of you congratulate your wife, very strong woman and very good company, greetings
Man the dog had a better vacation than most people will ever have. He always looks like he is having fun.
This is the truth!

Been looking for a good Northern Saskatchewan adventure video for quite some time now. I finally found it. Thank you so much!
You’re welcome, this was a great trip, the Porcupine is epic. There is one other N. SK river that is more challenging that I may do one of these years
You guys are awesome. Superman and his wonder dog. You both look so awesome in this video. Great footage and gorgeous country. My husband hiked all over Alaska. He was a superman too.
Thanks very much and glad to hear that you enjoyed it!
Wow, so much fun to watch you guys. Keep them coming. Glad to see your wife and dog.
As much as I enjoy your adventure films, Jim, I can't even imagine where Tory gets all of her energy from. My goodness... action, adventure and new motherhood. My respect to you both for keeping up such an astonishing pace! A half of this would be enough to floor me.. especially those hectic portages. You guys are amazing!
Wonderful seeing Buck out with you both. Brought a tear to my eye
Thanks very much and it did for me too.
What happened to Buck?
sorry to say that Buck has passed on.
@@harrygr218 Awe. heartbreaking. Rest in Peace Good Boy.
Awesome video Jim and Tori, beautiful rugged country..thanks for sharing.
Thanks very much and you’re welcome. It’s an amazing and rugged area for sure.
Tori is one tough cookie. You gotta be gritty to make it through these kind of trips.
That goes without saying for The Legend Jim Baird
Sweet adventure ! Wild country eh. You guys were adequately prepared and skilled, even big Buck. I think Tori said it all when she said " what have I got myself into " ha, what a trooper ! Thanx you guys, really really enjoyable. Always stay safe
Thanks, ya that was a pretty cold and wed day to say the least and we had to paddle so far and hiking too. She is pretty awesome for sure
Absolutely loved you video! I'll be watching more. Buck might just be the best dog EVER :) Thanks and keep sharing!
Glad you enjoyed your time in Saskatchewan, we love our North!
Thanks, it is a true gem!
Jim/ Tori. and the beloved Buck. Superb adventures in a most amazing and staggeringly dramatic land.. You beautiful people, thank you for sharing your fortnight in Saskatchewan , and a chance to see Buck again. ATVB to you and yours. Scott, Somerset ,England
Thanks very much for taking the time to watch.
Yay another video with Buck! He lived a good life!
Thanks, ya he sure did and he loved this trip too.
Was in northern Saskatchewan last year at a place called Ena Lake! This really brought me back. You say the north gets into your blood and you are exactly right about this. I have got to get back up there. Great vid.
Thanks a lot, ya...very few people only go once
It's impressive how you turned a 14 day wilderness adventure into just a 31 minute video! Really enjoyed the video. Great job hauling all that gear. Your wife and dog are amazing!
Thanks a lot, ya I guess we didn’t film quite as much as on some of my more recent trips but also I just condensed the footage a ton which was a lot of work
What a power couple you are! Love your adventures, gonna watch 'em all.
Big thanks! Our Canadian Rockies Backpacking Adventure is probably the most hard core and rewarding one we’ve ever done bar none.
Great way to spend time with the miss and pup. Awesome adventure!
Great Video! One of the most realistic I seen. Excellent equipment and hard working skills demonstrated 🇨🇦!
Thanks!!
Awesome adventure Jim and Tori! 👍👍👍👍💯💯💯💯
Thanks very much!
Great tip at 8:03, that is something I can get behind any day of the week! Awesome trip and it's fun to see it all together in one video!
Hey Jim, thanks for all of the great content! Just finished the solo Yukon documentary and loved every minute of it! You have such a great style of filmmaking and editing! I've enjoyed watching your progress ever since the Alone series and you really have come so far! You're living my dream and I really look forward to possibly following your lead with some adventures of my own someday! Keep up the great work and awesome content, much love to you both and forever rest in peace Buckaroo!
Thanks a lot for the great and encouraging comment. I hope you do get out on some of your own adventures soon. All the best to you!
Jim your video's are class, you are a great inspiration , you make it very real for your viewer's. You are giving me the push for anorher adventure here in ireland....for a mountain man your video skills and editing is top notch.....now where is my canoe and go prro ?
I completely agree with the above comment. I stumbled onto your videos and have been HOOKED!!! Great job and keep the great content coming.
Circled back and started watching some of the older videos. Really enjoyed this one. What an epic adventure. I don’t know how you packed so much content into 30 minutes but you did! Great to see Buck again. What a frickin’ amazing dog! I learned so much from this video. Things that I’m going to put into practice like the throw bags at the bow and stern. Thanks for sharing.
You’re very welcome! Thanks a lot for taking the time to check it out! I’ve heard that method with the bungee and throw bags called the Alberta method before. Works great.
@@JimBairdAdventurer I’ve been in the situation a couple times where I’m holding the bow (or more likely stern) and the boat is filling up and having that panicked feeling like I don’t want to let go, but I can’t rescue myself and the boat at the same time! Having a throw bag there could buy you some time and separation from the boat while still keeping you “connected”.
An amazing adventure. Thanks for sharing. Thumbs up here.
You’re welcome!
I've seen this adventure before, but seconds are sometimes better than the first time watched. Beautiful place.
Hey Jim and Tori wow what a great canoe trip. It was nice to see old Buck Be safe out there Thanks for sharing
CHEERS🍺
Thanks! 👍 🍻
Great video. Looking forward to see more of you and your beautyful wife's videos.

Its really cool that your wife goes with you. She is a heckuva trooper!
Such an amazing journey.

I know it is hard to even think of getting another friend. But good time to train. Spending lots of time with Merle ( lab. And whatever). Great video and Tory wow what a warrior women. Stay safe.
Thanks very much, I definitely need another dog and am feeling sad about Buck today
what beautiful fish you caught what beautiful nature and what a beautiful northern lights all very beautiful in colombia the pike fish is very rare and the trout does not grow as much as in your country and the salmon is only seen in supermarkets greetings to you and your partner
Awesome video and major props to Tori.....she's a true warrior.
Westley is great. So much good info as well.
Stunning views.
Really loving this channel. Better than TV by a long shot .
Say safe always:)
Thanks very much!!
Being in the bush with a dog is so much fun. They absolutely love it.
That is the truth!
Hi Jim & Tori, I just found you're Yukon Wilderness 4+hr video on TH-cam and then watched this one ... WOW !!! Like the fish you caught I'm hooked. Now to find more of your work and watch that too.
another great adventure love em thanks Jim and Tory
Wow I can’t believe your dog was calm through some of that water
what and adventure! It must be great to live in Canada and have this adventurous spirit.
From the bottom of my heart I feel that it truly is. Thanks a lot!
Awesome paddle, u Canadians are so lucky, all that space, all that fresh air and all that fish.
We are, thanks very much!
This dog is my new favorite TH-camr
Thanks a lot
Buck the SuperTrekker!
May he rest in piece.
Eric Lock Noooo what? Buck’s gone? Dang what a super cool dog. A white shepherd I guess? So sorry.
Thanks Jim for sharing.
Canada Such Great Country.
Your dog is a BOSS! Great video, and thank you for sharing your canoeing adventures.
Thanks!
Awesome video. Your eating like a king. Glad you can enjoy life with your special someone.
I’m definitely lucky I found Tori. We did eat well and no shortage of fish in those waters to say the least.
This is an epic film. Thanks Jim, for the detailed video capture and editing. How wonderful to see Buck again in all his glory, enjoying the outdoors.
Thanks very much. Glad you liked it. Buck sure did love this stuff and never seemed to mind the weather either.
Loved the dog running alongside the river while you paddled the rapids.
Thanks, ya he was great at doing that. They somehow know where you’re going to wind up before you get there
@@JimBairdAdventurer and it was super cool you attached a camera to him. It was a great idea. Combined with the short action soundtrack it turned out brilliant.
Another great video from you guys
Thanks a lot
I love the Buck Cam
Great video guys
Your one lucky guy Jim to have such an awesome wife !!
Thanks a lot and ya, the buck cam is great and so is my wife. Nice Pike!
Awesome footage and a nice tribute to the ultimate adventure dog!
This is a fast pace video. I'm more amazed in watching a longer documentary like 14 day challenge in Yukon even if it takes 4 hours or more because it's like I can feel the experience better and it's something I'm excited to watch in intervals even if it takes some days to finish it's fine with me. It feels like I'm also having the journey with them
I agree with that. It’s hard to condence the footage from a long trip like ive done here too. This is more like a public television documentary or something along those lines. It’s less reflective / relazing and meditative because yiu loose all the slower parts that are very real aspects of the experience. You’ll see more of the kind of content you like on my channel moving forward. Thanks a lot for the positive feedback! And thanks fir watching! You may enjoy my Arctic winter adventure which is orese ted more aling the lines of what you prefer. th-cam.com/play/PLdWkde9gml_8KnSZ-rtheqPTdupe1QhK0.html
I always love your adventures Jim. Keep inspiring!!
Dude, incredible trip and edit. Pretty sure I saw the videos a few years back and can't remember if they were this awesome, but damn. This had it all. I love a deep dive and this could've been 10x longer and I would've enjoyed it, but man this was an action-packed half hour. Also the firewater joke... 💯.
Haha, glad you liked that...it’s a good tip! It’s basically a bunch of shorter episodes from before merged into one with some other edits and I would have had enough footage to draw it out longer too but it takes a lot of tome and figuring as you know all too well. Thanks a lot for watching!
@@JimBairdAdventurer right on man, would love to see a Kesagami repost too 🙂
People don't believe me when I tell them we are not just farm fields! Glad to see you enjoying my province. That road to stoney rapids is pretty fun to drive tbh!
That’s the truth, extremely rugged country and endless water in Northern Sask.
Fantastic fishing and scenery, this is what life is all about, living the dream!
Well done again. Love the vibe... capable, curious and humbly confident ...without the knuckle head alpha dog, know-it-all BS. You and Tori are a treat to follow. Keep 'er going!
It looks really nice u have fish and food.! :)) So nice and with the dog and nice view
Tori is a beast on the portage trail! Double pack'in it!!
Great video guys
Big thanks! Ya she’s a hard worker and strong too.
What a great adventure. Thanks for sharing that one with us.
Epic Journey Jim!
Clearly the most fun anyone could have with their (wet or dry) clothes on. May all your future trips have dry sunny weather! Anything so I don't have to hear "The Drying Rack" song again.
Cheers
Awesome trip and video folks! Absolutely love the Catch-N-Cook parts and well all of it. Hahaha. Right up my alley.
Keep up the good work. Excellent channel Jim.
Good times...excellent video as expected from you.
Do you have any idea how lucky you are to have a wife willing to make this journey? You’re a lucky man, Mr. Baird. Love your videos.
I definitely feel very lucky and at the time, this was all her vacation days from work too.
Im from Saskatchewan and love seeing you have adventures here!! Great video as usual Jim!
Awesome, ya it’s a great Provence for sure. I love the rugged northern shield country you have there for sure
@@JimBairdAdventurer I Love the Shield man. My family has had a place at Missinipe on Otter Lake, part of the Churchill river system, for my entire life and I've been extremely lucky to spend a lot of time up there. I've learnt a lot from your videos over the years and look forward to putting some of the canoe skills and strokes to use this summer up there. If you're ever planning on doing a Churchill adventure, let me know!
Haha awesome adventure brother sister ty for sharing peace love n light beautiful spirit's 😊✌❤3
Thanks very much and to you too.
Firewater. Lol. Looks fun guys thanks for sharing your adventures
Haha, it’s a good tip for sure.
I love this white water adventures! Hope to see more!
Thanks a lot and yes, definitely more to come! They are fun trips and take some skill and. Can scare the crap out of you but they are definitely very rewarding.
Great trip and a great video!! Thanks for posting!!
You’re very welcome. Thanks a lot for taking the time to check it out and glad you enjoyed it!
Very nice video, not without danger. A great performance, really great. Reminds me of one of my survival training with the paratroopers. 4 weeks alone in the Russian taiga, but that was a good forty years ago.
Greetings from Frankfurt
Thanks a lot and I know that 4 weeks alone surviving Siberia is way harder of a task tan most who study survival skills will ever understand.
Nice job , you covered all the important stuff perfectly! Love Canada 👍
Big thanks!
Hi Jim thank you for sharing your Northern Saskatchewan experience. I’m a Dene from Northwestern Saskatchewan. Originally I grew up in Cree Lake Saskatchewan. I really enjoyed your trip. Thanks again for sharing.
Marsi! I didn’t film it but we hung out with a bunch of Dene people from Black Lake who were wind bound with us at that campsite at the mouth of the fon du lac. We learned a lot from them talking about things like how they smoke fish to how they make bannock etc. (They were better at both than me). The weather broke at night and they traveled home in two tin boats, 40 k back to town and guided by the Northern Lights. One of the best parts of the trip for me. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for commenting too. Good to get a comment from someone from the area. It’s a beautiful part of the world where you are from.
Wow! Awesome and yes our traditional skills is still thriving up there...Next time head down the Churchill River
Buena la aventura, muy buena la informacion, gracias
Enjoy your youthfulness as you get old these type of trips are no longer an option. You guys did well in as you didn't have the best weather conditions during much of your trip.
wow Stoney good for you guys lived here my whole life been to Points north many times and a across the ice roads to Wollastan many times welcome and great video
What a fun adventure
Epic. That looks like it be such an experience.
It truly was
Awesome adventure!!! Great paddling skills!

So, so, so remote and fantastic! Skills.

That was really really cool! Thanks guys. Buck ^

@@JimBairdAdventurer That was the first video I got to watch in my new Adventurer 80RB truck camper. I think I know where to to find an appropriate first decal for it lol
nice! Thanks man, good too see you, making tours with your tough wife! regards from germany, matt
Thanks!!
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. I have done a number of camping trips up in northern Saskatchewan, beautiful country, lots of lakes and rivers, best fishing for valley and you usually have the whole lake to yourself. By the way, your wife is a real trooper and a great cook by the looks of it. They say the best test for a relationship is to go camping together. Wishing you both many more great adventures.
That is the truth, particularly on extended trips when the weather isn’t the best like this one! We do seem to get along well on these trips for sure. Maybe not so much while packing for them (full disclosure). Thanks for watching the vid and it’s great to hear from someone who’s familiar with this awesome area!
Loving your inspiring videos such a pleasure to watch them. Thanks nick from Scotland 😎
Nice, thanks a lot for taking the time to to check them out and glad you like them!
