    WOW... This snow owl is beautiful!!
    Lisa you did a good job on that blurry back ground.
    I've been test trying color pencils now... I notice different brand name color pencils behave differently... some have super hard lead, making it very hard to get ANY pigment out at all. Another CHEAP brand name that I have, has super SOFT lead, EASY to use WITH OUT having to burnish at all.

  • @59Zeta
    @59Zeta 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1. what kind of teflon brush are you using?
    2. when you blend, do you blend in the lightest areas first and then go to the dark
    3. your background colours have more highlights in the left side by the raised wing and are more violet on the right side than on the left --- so you do have some kind of plan for cool/warm highlights/middle tones etc. in your drawing

    • @Lachri
      @Lachri  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      59Zeta
      1. It's a taklon filbert (not sure of the company, the label wore off, but it doesn't need to be an expensive one)
      2. Yes, I usually start with the lights first so that the darks don't smear onto the lighter areas.
      3. Nope, I honestly don't put that much thought into the work. I was just going on what my reference photo was, then by what I thought looked good while I was working. The main thing that I focus on is in keeping my values correct (lights light enough and darks dark enough).

    Hey do you have any tips or advice for people who lack confidence when it comes to art? I would say I'm a fairly good artist but I'm always doubting myself, and being a perfectionist I strive to do the best I can but its never good enough. One of my personal new years resolution is to start building a Facebook group so I can get my work noticed. I'm also struggling with line weight and creating a good flow/sense of depth for my images. I dislike soft wispy lines and prefer heavy lines.

    Why do my blurred backgrounds look dull? Im sure many factors. I use pencils as Lachri teaches here (with prisma) and burnish with Luminamce. Yes mineral spirits. Filbert yes. Help anyone. Ive practiced and practiced.

    I do not understand why a lot of cp artist use mineral spirits to blend since this can greatly alter the ph and other things to compromise your paper so it is no longer archival. Why not use water color pencils (all good artist brands have color pencils that match the regular color pencils) and blend with the same techniques with brushes damp with water. No do not use water color pencils as if they are regular watercolors!!! that is what watercolor paint sticks are for!!!! This way the color pencil dyes and paper are not compromised and all remain archival which is so important when doing art that have been commissioned or that will be sold.
    I know this is my opinion on how to work when you intend to blend the colors. What do you think of this? Why work with cp and blend with mineral spirits? especial when you have water blend able artist quality color pencils.

      d phil Because I like the results and using mineral spirits does not alter the paper enough to make it not worth doing in my opinion. We will all have techniques and tools that we prefer, this is just mine :)

      Thanks for your response. Have you tried the blending method I described with the water soluble pencils? it takes a tiny bit longer in drying since drying is not instantanous and that that is the only negative, however, with all the positives if you get a chance how about trying it? Then we can compare notes.
      You do great work and I do enjoy seeing your color pencil videos

    The background looks great but why bubbles? It is not something you see in nature even when the background is blurred. I see a lot of paintings using this so I thought I would ask.

    you drew bokeh balls in that owl drawing, bokeh balls are created by small lights like christmas tree lights or light shining trough tree branches and leaves that are out of focus... where is that owl? the background is blue so I assume it's sky but you just can't create those bokeh balls in the sky😐
