    Only works if the individual is able to move somewhat. Not for someone who cannot move their arms, legs and body. ALS patients are a good example. This looks too easy.

      It works with a person, who has no any problems with balance of his/hers body. But, actually, to me it looks like that it would be uncomfortable even to me - totally healthy person. I would stand totally by myself in order to keep my balance.

      With a gait belt, you can do this with an entirely dependent patient. I went limp for a simulation and a 100lb PT was able to control my weight using this technique. I was impressed, I'm 200 lbs and 6-8in taller than she was, she was surprised.

    One happen to the gait belt? I think it’s always better to use gait belt to patient especially when transferring for safety reason.

    Low pivot tranfers for extremely helpful patients should be the title lol.

    If the person is not moved by him/her self, it is not easy to move.

    My mom is 92, she has severe both shoulders arthritis and severe both knees osteoporosis and recently she has a phobia that she will fall, therefore she refuses to hold the Walker and sit on the commode chair kept next to her bed, and vice versa. She holds herself so stiff that it's completely impossible to move her, and she puts the whole body weight on the person taking care of her or me, and yes she us obese too, with a huge stomach. PLEASE HELP WHAT TO DO. I AM GETTING TIRED AND MY BOTH ARMS HAVE STARTED ACHING VERY BADLY. PLEASE SHOW ME A PROPER WAY OF HANDLING HER. THANKS

    This technique is loosely based on a Bobath/NDT transfer. Typically the patient would pivot towards their affected side, although for most people that seems counter intuitive. The patient typically leans heavily over their unaffected side and the person doing the transfer would have their hands under the ischial tuberosities of the patient. You rock back and transfer the patient. The reason this video didn't look realistic is because the person being transferred is trying to over compensate to illustrate how the transfer works. Other than a few details, she's got the basics right.

      Please suggest a more realistic video that illustrates your point more clearly. I am trying to find a helpful video to improve the transfers if my mother that has dementia and her feet are becoming very loose and I cannot find one.

    She did say with the patient/ client
    “ 50% help with that transfer” ability to assist is there.

    In my experience, nobody was helping nor did they have the capacity to lift themselves with their arms nor scoot anywhere. AND they will yell at you the entire time to make sure you understand you're the problem. If you're especially unfortunate you'll get someone who refuses to cooperate even if they can help you. lol! A lot of the times people will lie to keep themselves out of nursing homes and assisted livings... I understand, I would do the same, my home is my sanctuary. You have to be tough to do this job and I don't mean physically.

    If you have to lift you need equipment. In UK we have strict moving and handling procedures.

    How about if they can't move it all..no strength in their feet or legs🤔🤔

    • @jesikamoua8848
      @jesikamoua8848 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Gate belt. 1 of your leg in between their legs. (Transfer slide board is good also) if none, fix feet and put your hands around the person and hold the gate belt. On the count of 3, pull them towards you and on to bed or chair. (My sister is paralyze, so my momma and I was sent to Seattle for classes) 😉👍

    sometimes these transfers also depend on height of the worker...I find I have to find other ways sometimes to do things for my husband because I'm shorter but one of our PSWs are on the taller side and she just gets a better reach then I do.

    Hi 100SAMANTHA LEE.
    Depending on what state you live determine the States policies on lifting. Also your mom's abilities to be able to help or follow commands also determine the way some transfers are done. If your mom is frail maybe try searching for those particular skills in lifting and transfers.
    Seek advice from doctor, home care services, nursing homes. How they do it in the state you live in. Hope this helps

    • @ryleeclark1793
      @ryleeclark1793 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering the same thing too, in my current class my teacher says that the strong side should lead the transfer, so in this situation I would have put her strong side closer to the bed. Hope this helps a little:)

    I’m so pissed off because my coworkers have been transferring my small and frail 96 year old client the wrong way. They do none of this. Their lack of skills have caused falls, large open wounds, fail bruises, and pain. I’m currently writing a list of things to do for all caregivers that take care of this client since they literally don’t give a care about how to handle her.

    Need a better title for this, she can assist and clearly has leg power to push. My husband is an ALS patient and can do none of that.

  • @charlireed9555

    This technique works,, *Yes! But the demonstration is with Lori helping. This can go poorly! If Lori had one leg, she could have fallen frontal and took down the aide as well. Trust your gut. Have an assistant to help you that knows Lori's mobility. If Lori had one leg, this technique won't work. Some residents you can move alone from the bed to chair... some your need assistance. - God Bless (Hope this helps!)

  • @lianemaclean6277
    @lianemaclean6277 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would not transfer this way, her back is twisting. In the UK if the client is unable to transfer with a slide board and minimum assistance, a hoist would be used with teo carers in attendance. No way would I risk this.

      What do you do with a fwb 400 lb patient who you assist from chair to edge of bed but then says they are unable to swing legs on bed. Her legs easily weigh 150 lbs so not easily lifted.

      Very interesting. My wife's legs hardly move from the knee down. She is about 275lbs. Pivoting is difficult. Would gate belts help?

  • @JLagos-ln1yq
    @JLagos-ln1yq ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This demonstration is not at all accurate. To move this volumen you need much more effort and technique ..It doesn't happen like it is shown here.A fantasy , like moving a pillow. This patient can stand up by himself so good for the video. Please make the demonstration with a real ill person.

      Because it's not 50/50 like she says it is. Lori is probably doing most of the work moving herself. If she was actually putting in 50% of the work, she would have talked about grabbing onto the pants or belt while lifting the patient. And if there is no pants or belt, then this transfer is not possible.
