      While I agree, I also think we have to acknowledge that in these homebirth horror stories, a consistent detail is the exhaustion from the husband or spouse. This guy was probably up with his wife the whole time, probably exhausted and afraid, and really not fully in his right mind to do anything. He was depending on a trained professional to know her business enough not to make stupid, basic mistakes.

      They should have been in a freaking hospital the whole time... It's their own fault. And normally if someone hires a midwife, they do research and pick a good and QUALIFIED midwife... I want to know where they found her. They probably just googled "midwives in my area" and chose the cheapest one...

      @@amyahlquist3436 she was not there. He was going along with his wife. The pregnant body. Her body her way. She was working as a nurse so had to be close to a hospital. Maybe they said it would take too long when he called. Did he call? She should never have been doing this at home. She was a nurse and knew better. But I guess maternity care is different than needing your gall bladder out or having a seizure. The patient knows more than the doctor. And men can’t say anything cause birthing is a woman control empowerment thing. It’s natural for the baby to come out. Why is it some badge of honor for a baby to leave from the vagina? No one will be talking about this by age 5. For a few years when new moms get together it will be a topic but it’s not a character flaw to have a C-section. It’s not cause a mom didn’t advocate. It has nothing to do with how good a mother she will be how the baby leaves. Was it childcare doing it at home? Was it money not calling the ambulance? It seemed to be about her intended career change. I would be more safe with a midwife in or out of a birthing center if they said they delivered in a hospital their own baby or babies. It means they are not cultish about it.

    People make choices. They chose to go the route of having a midwife as opposed to a hospital birth. This was their choice. The husband chose to ignore the red flags and just rely on the mid-wife and her judgement. Always go with your gut and be an advocate for yourself and your loved ones. While I'm sure this mid-wife is at fault, I don't think that she alone shoulders the blame. Take risk, accept the consequences.

    Even in the hospital, a midwife can screw up due to their vanity, placing a mother and child at risk. Like what nearly happened to my son and I at Flagstaff Medical Center in December. 1996. I wish I had sued. They refused to pay attention to my son's failing vitals, refused for a doctor to intervene, and my son nearly died due to droopy cord.
    Just because you chose to go the route of midwife, that doesn't mean you'll have a loving, trauma-free birth. I hope the woman looses her nursing license and is forced to start all over again. The father requested additional help, and she refused. She deserves to lose everything. Best of luck to dad, and my condolences.

      @BeccaHetrick 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      But in a hospital there are actual medical professionals like nurses and doctors who are actually qualified and legally allowed to do these things... Seriously, did they just Google cheap midwives in my area and just choose the cheapest one without looking to see if she has ANY qualifications?? I hate it when people go on the news to complain about something that's their own fault. Like the people who lose all their money to scammers. You gave your money away. And this guy just gave his wife and baby away....

    • @amyahlquist3436

      Things can go wrong in mere seconds a hospital is better prepared for those scenario’s if it’s something the midwife can’t fix they have perinatologists and high risk ob/gyns available. I bet the midwife in this case said exactly what you said to the husband and that’s what got her and her baby killed. I’m sorry you had that experience with your kids but at least you didnt lose the child completely. I would rather have a traumatic birth and my baby be alive vs getting what I wanted putting my baby at risk and my baby dying. Because nothing is more traumatic then having your baby die I know this because I lost may baby at 22 weeks I was in the midwife’s office 2 days prior cramping and spotting they told me to drink more water and didn’t educate me on what preterm labour symptoms were an infection caused my water to break and back then they let 22 weekers die. This trauma messed me up for life.

      Certified nurse midwives work in hospitals this was not the same type of midwife. Obstetricians also cause maternal and infant mortality all the time. The major different is nurse midwives and obstetricians can be held accountable licensed midwives can’t. They aren’t required to carry any type of insurance. Women just went to be heard and that isn’t happening in or out of the hospital

    • @IamOkayla
      @IamOkayla 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I agree, I feel like they prey on the anxiety of women and make it seem like birth will be less traumatic if "they are around" but at the end of the day you should have all the resources around (doctor, surgeon etc) because midwives are not able to give a c-section if you need it

    One of my best friends was pregnant the same time I was she was about five years older than me and gained over 100 pounds during her pregnancy. Later she found out she had gestational diabetes that was undiagnosed by her midwife. she only ever got one picture of her baby when she was pregnant. She chose to have a midwife. This was her first child first pregnancy. She was 45. She labored at home for 14 hours before her midwife put her in her car and dropped her off at the county hospital because she claimed she couldn’t go inside, I still think she should’ve sued the woman. No it really does happen at hospitals in america day in and day out. The city i grew up in is surrounded by amish community, and thwre is a doctor who is responsible for several baby deaths & hes never lost his license because amish do not sue. My friend LuEllas son presented as transverse breach during her labor, and the doctor didnt want to come in to do a c section. His cord prolapsed, and he died. So he had to come in anyway emergency style and the baby died on the way to the OR. LuElla and others have said that she is not the only one who has a story like that. His name is Dr Egli i believe. Might be Dr Engle.

      And its not just Amish either. Another friend of mine called in at 8 months pregnant with her daughter because she hadnt felt her move and she was concerned. The hospital told her to wait until the EVENING to come in. They didn't tell her to come in to ease her mind or anything like that, no. Told her to wait the entire freaking day.
      When she went in she tild them she didnt want to see the ultrasound because she knew her daughter was dead. She was correct.
      There are MANY stories out there. Filing lawsuits and getting lawyers is VERY expensive, especially the kind of lawyer you would need to go against a doctor. They have money. A lot of people cannot afford something like that so the best they can do is file complaints to hospitals, who are going to be loyal to their employees unless a multitude of people complain.

Pregnant women back then prefers home birth since most of the towns people are poor and can't afford to go to hospital to give birth. Only when the baby's are in breech position which is risky she will asked the family to send the mother's to the hospital. This midwife was suppose to be a trained professional. They are required to contact emergency services and transport and first signs . She consistently reassured the family everything was fine. This isn’t her first victim . This happens all over the United States because of the maternal health crisis. America has some of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world and that’s inside the hospital. That’s why many families choose homebirth but what they don’t know is the drastic lack of oversight and educational requirements for different midwife certificates. No matter where you decide to birth you should be kept safe. That’s what you pay a professional to do.
    As this story unfolds the amount of negligence involved by this midwife is absolutely unacceptable and she isn’t the only one with a record like this still practicing

    If it was safe to have kids at home, far more women would do it. He should have called 911 the instant he saw red flags. It sounds like the midwife was also incompetent so since she’s no longer allowed to practice legally, but he’s shoving the blame entirely on her. They both made monumentally bad decisions, but he’s going to be paid substantial rewards for his.

      She wanted to be a midwife. Her first two were csections and she needed blood at least once. But she wanted the experience cause for some reason in her circles it’s a badge of honor to control your birth. I find it odd a doctor can remove a gallbladder without patient controlling the process but not a baby.

    In 1983 I had my first baby by a midwife in an office building with a birthing suite. I had my next 3 children by midwives, however, they had contracted with the hospital so that's where I had the next 3. I preferred the first birth but I had issues with my 2,3 & 4th births so maybe I would've died if I hadn't been in the hospital.
