That paint session is an awesome reflection of when skill and creativity still mattered, not computer generated decals for the entire truck. Paint over wraps any day.
This! Or scrap the air and go hydraulic. Great hydraulic coil overs out there that offer like 6” of travel up and down without messing with the suspension geometry.
This takes me back to the early 80’s when I had my 1984 Toyota mini truck. Lives in Simi Valley at the time and was in a mini truck club called So Cal Minis. Greatest time in my life. Thanks for taking me back to good old days.

The fact that your kids going to be rolling up to school on his 16th birthday in a bagged, fully built mini truck, that lays frame with an insane $50,000 paint job blows my mind.
This video hits home hard!!! As I stand in my garage looking out the window of my bagged and bodied mini that I haven't even gotten into in over a year. Only needs a few hours of work to be roadworthy. Just time, life, etc. I just want to get it in the road so I can take it to get tacos every now and then.
Very cool! My first "car" was a two year old '87 Nissan D21 Hardbody pickup that I got in December 1988 for my 16th birthday. I immediately cranked the torsion bars down, put 4" blocks on the rear axle and went cruising! I still love classic mini trucks, but my daily driver is a bagged '04 Chevy Crew cab dually. This video brings back memories!

My big bro had a mini truck that had some deep wide wheels and tires. I used to take that thing out and it was a blast to fly around corners in!! Loved that bouncing feeling they had!
I grew up watching the mini truck movement start in truckin magazine in the mid 80s. I’ve always loved them and though they were so cool. The wheel choice is really going to make her look really nice.
So stoked to see the mini truck!! I actually found Roadkill 6-7 years ago from searching for mini truck content and finding the Datsun truck episode. This thing is so rad I can’t wait to see more videos with it!
If you are talking about the yellow rear engine truck, it was stolen shortly after filming. Never recovered. They used to mention it from time to time.

That 85 I bought in 88,was amazing! Rolled it over first week, used bar and chain oil for the motor, missed shifts,crazy girls breaking all the glass out MANY TIMES! That truck kept takin it all...those were the days..I miss them..alot.damn! Geez! Lotsa pollen in here all of a sudden,,yea, must be the pollen!Keep up the awesome vids!

Ah, the memories from the early 90s! My buddy had a similar Toyota Mini! He had 4 15" subs in the bed, with some 10" behind the seats. I think that's where I got my tinnitus! We used to cruise around playing DJ Magic Mike, rattling that poor truck to pieces.
Thank you for including that paint job video clip. I did not fully appreciate that paint job until I saw all that that went into it. That's truly an incredible piece of work!
Mad respect for paint; would've been so easy to smash a base of black and lay out some expensive vinyl; but it sure wouldn't of been right. Textured paint, drop shadows, loads of other airbrush work; majestic layering. It's so damn period correct.
My son in law was a great friends with Alex, they were in the same mini truck club, son in law’s truck was on the cover of Mini Truck Magazine, awesome to see it running again.

I love the paint and R9s were always my favorite wheel for a minitruck. Now to get my 92 Ranger tagged and road worthy again after its sat since the start of covid crud..
We used to get the pad on the wheel milled and the sockets where the lug goes wouldnt be drilled that deep to get alil more clerance. The lug nut might stick out alil but it will give tou some space

*I had a Nissan 720 (1986) and a Nissan Hardbody (1994) Both slammed. Good Times. I wanted to get a Ratical convertable top kit but never got enough money saved up. My friend had one and I wanted one so bad after driving his. The late 1980's on the Myrtle Beach strip in the summer with the music playing was such a great vibe. Girls jumping in the back to ride around at the beach was the best.*

Great video. Reminds of my 86 toyota mini truck i bought new my Dad and i painted bright yellow. I put 76 dodge dart velour seats in it. Slammed itas far as torsion bars would go. Bought the plastic slotted lense covers. Rear lowering blocks. Tinted windows. I has so much fun with that truck.but i had to carry a hammer,hydruslic piston jack and Slip joint pliers because itd bottom out and drop the front endon ground ALOT. But it was so worth it for the look. Cruised all around the bay area in it.
sometimes I wish Motortrend on demand had comments. I was blown away when You and Dave were trying to change the fuel pump in the '57 and didn't know about the bolt you take out and stick a screwdriver in the hole to keep the rod up. I was hollering at the screen. I like anything Finnegan related.
So very glad to see you now have a shop for all the toys and projects. ( I may have missed that episode). I was into mini-trucks in the mid 80s. I even made it to "Resolutions" two years in a row.
Totally miss my 95 4x4 Taco. In 99 I swapped in a 302/cast iron fmx 3 speed. Sounded good with long tube headers and long ass glass packs. Lifted 8 inches on 38s and Dana 44 and 9"rear. Never did the TRD torn edge paint job Toyota was running at the time. 6k watts thumping the extended cab. Good times. Thanks for the rewinded memories!!!

Sweet. Takes me back to when my son and I made his Luv truck a convertible. Scarry cuts. Worked so well we we made a tilt/dump bed for it next.

Ah, the memories from the early 90s! My buddy had a similar Toyota Mini! He had 4 15" subs in the bed, with some 10" behind the seats. I think that's where I got my tinnitus! We used to cruise around playing DJ Magic Mike, rattling that poor truck to pieces.
I loved watching the progress on this truck. And as a Tamco user, I really miss Tammy! She was so awesome to talk to!

Mad respect for paint; would've been so easy to smash a base of black and lay out some expensive vinyl; but it sure wouldn't of been right.
Textured paint, drop shadows, loads of other airbrush work; majestic layering. It's so damn period correct.

Diggin on it bro, the work they put into that thing is amazing. I was born in 93, and my dad had a white mini truck around 97-98 that I loved riding in. Bags, frame scrapes, the works.. ain't nothin wrong with that oldschool style. That truck has some awesome graphics! 👌

I love the paint and R9s were always my favorite wheel for a minitruck. Now to get my 92 Ranger tagged and road worthy again after its sat since the start of covid crud..
Looks like a bag of Skittles and 1990's Chip Foose had a baby. Noice!
We used to get the pad on the wheel milled and the sockets where the lug goes wouldnt be drilled that deep to get alil more clerance. The lug nut might stick out alil but it will give tou some space

Love this episode and mini truck. It brings back so many memories of mini truckin’ with my friends in high school! Makes me miss my slammed 84 Chevy S10 I had in high school. Awesome times back then to be teenager.

*I had a Nissan 720 (1986) and a Nissan Hardbody (1994) Both slammed. Good Times. I wanted to get a Ratical convertable top kit but never got enough money saved up. My friend had one and I wanted one so bad after driving his. The late 1980's on the Myrtle Beach strip in the summer with the music playing was such a great vibe. Girls jumping in the back to ride around at the beach was the best.*

My first truck was a 1985 Toyota with a 22r. It was slammed on 17" Boyd's. It was awesome.
That's some serious planning and execution on that paint job. Insane.
That truck looked sick all white, but I too grew up with the crazy graphics. I loved it after paint with the white wheels too though. They fit the crazy paint scheme

Great video. Reminds of my 86 toyota mini truck i bought new my Dad and i painted bright yellow. I put 76 dodge dart velour seats in it. Slammed itas far as torsion bars would go. Bought the plastic slotted lense covers. Rear lowering blocks. Tinted windows. I has so much fun with that truck.but i had to carry a hammer,hydruslic piston jack and Slip joint pliers because itd bottom out and drop the front endon ground ALOT. But it was so worth it for the look. Cruised all around the bay area in it.
sometimes I wish Motortrend on demand had comments. I was blown away when You and Dave were trying to change the fuel pump in the '57 and didn't know about the bolt you take out and stick a screwdriver in the hole to keep the rod up. I was hollering at the screen. I like anything Finnegan related.

Your mini truck is sick, been working on my 2000 dodge dakota 3.6L slamming it for daily cruising/drifting, now I want that wrap lol so retro!
Totally miss my 95 4x4 Taco. In 99 I swapped in a 302/cast iron fmx 3 speed. Sounded good with long tube headers and long ass glass packs. Lifted 8 inches on 38s and Dana 44 and 9"rear. Never did the TRD torn edge paint job Toyota was running at the time. 6k watts thumping the extended cab. Good times. Thanks for the rewinded memories!!!
