I live in a rainy area with damp cold winters. I have a pair of cats second shift. Been using them for the last 3 years, same pair. Grease and a quick wipe makes them look brand new. I walk a lot to get to my work place 20-30min and work in them all day. The cats are perfect with some custom gel insoles since the sole is quite flexible and soft.
Never tried the CATs but the Timberland pros beat any I've ever had for walking. It's that tough orange piece in there keeps me feeling light. I'd suggest putting a tough gel foot bed under the stock foot bed. When broke in they feel just right for a long time.
I've had the CAT second shifts for about 3 years and they've held up awesome until now the sole in digging through and I wore them everyday damn near they got worked too, when I wore the boots it was for walking, working, everything. So if you're wearing them casually probably last 8 +years but if you're really working them they'll fall apart in 5 years awesome boot they'll hold up for a long time depending on what you consider holding up of course for the price for sure But I just got the pitboss's haven't even worn them yet but looking forward too it!
Cat's are better than This Timbs PRO, seriously! I own a pair of Cat's Colorado, the Yellow Ones for the fourth year now and I find them more attractive on afoot (even boots are very similar in design ) over a Yellow Timberland! Quality base, they are quite the same!
I did the same as you, I bought both and I too wanted and desired the Timberland boot. They had such a solid feel and a better look, but I was surprised with the Cat boots. The Cat Second Shift wins hands down with excellent fit and comfort with zero heel rub. Try both before you buy.
I first owned a pair of timbs and I liked them at first. They got very uncomfortable as I broke them in. To be fair, they were only $100. Probably the cheapest on the Pro series. I then bought a very nice pair of Caterpillar Tracklayers and WOW. They were painful to break in which made me hate them at first. After they broke in they were super comfortable and I wouldn't wear another pair of boots except for caterpillars. I lost my Tracklayers which I don't think they make anymore but I put them through a lot and they never ripped or tore. Just ordered 2 more pairs and should last me years. I got the Salvo 8in and the Indiana 2.0 8 in. Can't ever see myself wear another boot brand.
@@MrBaldChronicles. Salvo's are a beauty in comfort and style. Keep the feet warm as well. I will say in my experience that two boot-string loops popped out from pulling the strings too hard as I was tying the laces. Man I had a pair of them pit boss’s and I wore them 2 times only doing light yard work and the mid sole disintegrated and the whole boot fell apart. I’ve heard of other people having the same problem.
Glad I didn't like them. They're tough on the feet. I tried them just in the house. The Cats felt allot better, better rating too. I sent the back and kept the CAT
@@MrBaldChronicles. actually almost no difference, laCrosse is like a factory insole but with a better heel step! But remove the other insole! And around ten dollars!
I've never owned a pair of caterpillar boots I didn't like. In 10 years I've only bought two, the second pair only a year ago, so take that as you will. Both steel toe, so calluses are going to happen, but very comfortable boots.
@@MrBaldChronicles. Well I'm on my feet 8+ hours a day 5 days a week. I need steel toe for work, and I'm either kneeling, walking, or climbing. I've been wearing the Cat 2nd shift steel toe for years. Currently my 2nd pair is 2.5 yo. I occasionally have to go to the warehouse at my workplace so it complys with the rules and regs. They are sturdy and comfortable to walk /work in. I did replace the insole tho. Cat knows people will replace the insole according to their preferences. That's why their out of the box insole is very very basic.

I don't understand how so many people rate the pit boss so high!? Do these people actually work all day in them or just wear them for fashion!? I work 12 hour days in a factory there's no way in hell those Tims would cut the mustard

They say with Timberlands that you should get a size down for some reason. I just ordered the Timberland Pro 6” direct soft toe
