    The best review to date of this wheel. Not biased, just speaking from experience (S18 & RSHT) and reviewing from that angle. You ride this wheel the way in theory it was designed to be ridden. Thank you.

    Great video thanks so much. It’s nice to see the wheel being used on real single track, and to get views from someone who has really ridden it properly, first impressions from someone who rode it down the side walk aren’t any use to anyone. The suspension issue seems an easy fix for anyone handy, the battery design and firmware power management issues are much more concerning. I hope these matters are taken on and fixed by Kingsong, it would be a shame if they don’t refine such an utmost to great product.

    Great review .. Ive seen hundreds of videos but I've never seen anyone using a tether ... Chooch once talked about it but I've never seen him use one ... yeah the tumbling wheel headed for a vehicle or pedestrian could financially ruin a person so that looks like a viable solution ... it's great to hear someone has used one and it works to avoid a disaster. I'll be checking that out for sure ... thanks again.

    Thanks for the review Chance! I appreciate the context you have behind some of your concerns and I think they are pretty substantial, especially when talking about things like durability (in the plastic parts, battery strips, and the shock oil reservoir) and the power delivery, which as a heavier rider, I always have my mind on. S20 pushes EUC evolution quite a bit, but basic needs like durability and performance still need to be met. Great job on the video!

    @2:30 lol those tree magnets man ..... gotta watch out for those 😂. Thanks for the great review. I plan on covering the shock oil reservoir and other exposed parts with the foam edge guard stuff I put on all my wheels. It helps a lot compared to no edge guard but obviously is not as good as a roll cage over the shock. Also you can trade the S20 shock out for a high quality air shock that doesn't have anything sticking out.

    4:10 "hall-less hall sensor"
    A misunderstanding here. The motor is not sensorless, it is equipped with a hall sensor and that's what the controller uses.
    The sensorless control mode is supposed to be here only in case of hall sensor failure, which I presume you didn't experience.
    Therefore it can't create a different feel.

    • @wattssingletrack8874
      @wattssingletrack8874  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Okay well kingsongs firmware and how it’s sending their hull sensor feels different to me then say an S18 or any other wheel Iv stepped on. This could be firmware but It does feel different in my personal opinion but it wasn’t so far different that I couldn’t learn it and adjust. I stated that in the video

    • @supercurioTube
      @supercurioTube 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wattssingletrack8874 I wonder if you tried various modes to test all the pedal feel available.
      Hard can be very stiff on Kingsong wheels and medium or soft have a good give without dipping too much

      @@supercurioTube so I only tried hard mode as that’s all I ever ride In for trail riding. Iv never used medium and soft mode since it’s too much of a delayed response in terms of power delivery for me

    • @supercurioTube
      @supercurioTube 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wattssingletrack8874 ah yes understandable.
      For me it depends on the wheel.
      Sometimes I go to softer modes to increase climbing traction on 16X, and it also helps to feel better when you're getting close to the torque limit.

  • @brocmt
    @brocmt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks for your thoughts on this.
    Busted my shoulder back in September when my S18 cut out on me going 25mph uphill. I do plan to get back on it, eventually... But a beefier wheel would be nice...
    Almost nobody gets it right the first time, it seems early adopters are the real QC and by the second or third revision are things like protecting the suspension hardware with roll cages added.
    But yeah, looking forward to seeing how EUCs evolve further with folks like you showing just how fun they can be off-road.

    You were spot on with the nickel strips it seems. Alot of people were saying the reason the Ks20 went on fire is because my successive braking might have caused thermal run away after the pop of unknown component and now I hear you talking about that a month or so later. Interesting

    • @wattssingletrack8874
      @wattssingletrack8874  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nickel strip failure in the s18 was very high; and they kept same pack design on s20 so I fear the s20 nickel strips will suffer the same fate tbh. Abs they don’t break rite away it takes a lot of bumps and drops but eventually the nickel strip goes

    Thanks for sharing! It is very noisy, clunky and squeaky as you've pointed out. At times you'd be hard pressed to believe that you just dropped 3,500.00 on the thing, its actually embarrassing! That's because of the vertical slide track travel and the extruded components, it's kinda basic low budget dated slide design. A precision slide setup would be much smoother and quieter. This of course would certainly increase the price point and would make it more costly to maintain. I'm sure in later generations we'll see these improvements become standard. Thanks again for sharing, nice job.

    Great riding, and review.
    A solid grab-bar/bumper/roll cage/rack/ on the rear end, would make the S20 so much more useful and "liftable" too. All these functions could be accomplished by a fairly simple metal bar.
    My biggest gripes so far is:
    the oil resevoir doesn't need to be on the default S20 suspension. It isn't worth the space it takes up. People who want to can upgrade the suspension.
    and the gimmiky handle/switch that mostly flaps around. and doesn't make lifting it any easier.
    imho

Although I'm avid offroad fan, I certainly wouldn't to the kinda rock climbing that's shown on the vid. I'm more a gnarly MTB trails kinda guy. But I dig your perspective!!!
    PS: Fwiw I think the direct smack into the tree might be cos of the extra weight. On a lighter RS, its easier to have more precise wheel control. Just a personal pov

      @wattssingletrack8874  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I agree that most won’t ride it like this, but because wheels couldn’t do stuff like this before but now with the more powerful wheels this kind of riding is becoming an option more and more for people who want to explore and push the limits. And onto the magnetic tree 🤣 I was just making a joke in the vid it wasn’t the s20’s fault. If you watch it back I screwed up the landing on the rocks immediately prior to hitting the tree and I just tried to ride it out but didn’t work out. The most impressive and useful part of this review other than your thoroughness, is your "self awareness". What I mean to say is... MANY reviewers are quite myopic and review the wheel ONLY from their perspective, meaning weight, experience level, ride style and preferences. The fact that you point out "flaws" and then place them in context to yourself and your riding style AND relate that to other riders is commendable. In other words... nothing grates on my nerves more than a 125lb street rider who pronounces X wheel as the best ever in every way or a 250lb speed demon that says the same wheel is just shit through and through. Being fair and providing a useful review for ALL of us... is all about context.

    Awesome off-road impressions!
    I'm surprised by the repeated loss of traction at 0:51, was the wheel in hard mode? For this kind of climb sometimes a softer mode helps, so the motor control is smoothed a bit, just enough to help keep the tire planted.
    No doubt, the oil cap breaking at 9:00 is a problem that'll keep happening for trail riders and it will get old quickly.
    I'll look into how to design a protection that can be 3D printed for myself, maybe by wrapping a good amount of the shock with a semi flexible part which could absorb some of the hits. Otherwise like you said it would need to be a strong metallic cage around it. Wrapping it into a protective shell will make quick shock adjustments more difficult tho which is a shame.
    I wonder about the "full power / 3m" thing, if it's not just a bad translation or misunderstanding. Some other KS messages to distributors have been barely decipherable. Was a change in power delivery before/after a set distance actually noticeable?
    It would be feasible to test that specifically, like by climbing a 35 degree slope after riding only 0.5m or riding 5+m: should be easy to tell.

      This hill is about 30-36° depending on where you measure that’s why the tire was losing traction so much. Action cameras kill the terrain and steepness. The power throttling is for sure a thing and it’s because it’ll burn up boards because of only 12 mosfets, the same as the s18. Where as master needed 24 mosfets for 134v

    • @ullle66
      @ullle66 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@wattssingletrack8874 Again: A false assumption!
      Higher voltage wheels have LOWER amperage when getting started.
      The only reason to have more Mosfets is using more powerfull cells, like GW seams todo with the Master, as THAT might need more mosfets. Its a difference if you have a 40amp battery system as on the S20 or a 160Amps battery system with 4p Molicells.
      What most people dont get that at motorphase side on the first meters your EUC is NOT operating at 126Volts…its operates at a much lower voltage. As the voltage defines the speed, and the amperage is responsible for the torque.
      126Volts or better say the maximum available battery voltage is only given to the motor phase side when on the max/high speed.
      What is happening is that KS is still finetuning the firmware, as they allready gave multiple firmware and BMS updates out to the wheel!
      EACH and EVERY reseller was informed that the PRE productions samples are not at their FINAL stage, and each was able to choose to get the “imperfect” samples or wait for End of March when mass production starts.

    The wheel HAS hall sensors! The difference is JUST that in a case of a hall sensor failure , you would NOT faceplant as on other wheels.
    You would get a alarm , the wheel would still work, but it would need to be fixed!
    Its not working withOUT hall sensors.
    For the batterys: Theses ARE totally different than on the S18 and inside their metal cases they are certainly NOT prone to get any “nickel stripe” brakes…..thats just a false assumption. With the smart BMS alltimes you would see if a cell compartment would disconnect.
    Also those “vertical battery adjustment” is just total nonsense, sorry. Its just the same as in every GW on this wheel.
