It's not hard to follow the plotline. Don't get too stuck with particular names, but rather the importance of them and respective description. This is why early dialogue emphasizes so much on that, they know the player has no clue of who is who, time will fix that though. It's a slow buildup at the start - but yeah you start getting it towards the end (haha I wrote this comment midway).
