Between these classic Airstreams, the GMC Classic RVs and the Dodge Travcos, they just don’t make em like these anymore. A beautiful part of our American heritage

If I ever find one, I am buying it and living the rest of my days in it.

There’s one on Facebook marketplace right now. Asking $3600. Look for the Florida listing you’ll see it. I didn’t know anything about them so once I saw the add I TH-camd it to study up on them. I may grab it up unless you want it.

Before I was a jet engine mechanic in the AirForce, I used to be an auto mechanic, and I can see from the under carriage (footage 2:47), there are some things that need to be fixed under this motor home. The first thing I noticed is the oil pan leak. judging by the amount of wetness in the front of the engine, I'd say you've got a main bearing seal leak, replace both front and rear main bearing seals and of course a new oil pan gasket. While the picture is good, I need to see more of the under carriage to get a better assessment. However from my experience, depending on how many miles are on this engine, if it's high, as long as you'll have to drop the oil pan to get to the seals, you might as well replace the connecting rod bearings too. Also clean out all the gunk and iron fillings with a magnet and check that the strainer on the oil pump isn't blocked. As a mechanic, I never did a half ass job, if it needed to be done, I'd do it. And for gods sake, clean all that oil from under there, when that engine heats up, that thing smokes and you can smell it when you turn on the air. Or not depending where your air intake is. Also I'm a little bit concerned about the wet spot on that front lift wheel. It could be nothing, but if I were servicing this vehicle, I'd touch it and smell it to be sure it's rain water and not leaking brake fluid. However looking at that wheel close up, I'm willing to bet, you've got a wheel cylinder leak. If that's the case, replace it. Driving with that will cause air to get in the brake line and over time the pedal will go soft at first, then without warning, the peddle will drop to the floor and that behemoth will not stop. I know, it happened to me once, luckily my emergency brake worked and that's how I was able to slow it down and steer it to the curb. Also check that starter, it looks like some oil is on it, I'd take it off and dry it off before you begin to have trouble with it. If oil has penetrated inside, do not reinstall, replace it. I can see oil residue on the exhaust manifold, clean that off too. I'm glade you showed that under carriage shoot, it will cost a bit to fix all the things I can see, but it's better to be safe then sorry.

david hill - Here is some advice; living in a motorhome is NEVER cheap. You can live in a house or apartment much cheaper, but then you don’t have the mobility. Mobility comes at a cost, so weigh it carefully. Be prepared for breakdowns. No matter how pristine the unit, Murphy will be active & something will break at the very worst time. These Airstreams were built great. Nothing else even comes close for the age. If you don’t mind turning wrenches & driving a piece of history, these are great!

Where were you when we didn't pass our smog test ..it's like the longest exhaust for a gas engine ..
I love the crazy thing but it's not going anywhere but the driveway..it moves now and then...when there's an earthquake..

The whole thing was funny because the airstream trailers were famously light weight..the aluminum the shape..almost anything could pull it..when you add all the things a motorhome has like exhaust and dash ..its a big
    iconic exception for sure..
..spot light on the roof you control from inside..
Hot water tap for making instant things or tea..
    Its
    ..little floor lights..
..closet lights come on when you open the doors..
    ❤❤❤
