This would be a trip to see. When I was working on the North Kaibab trail inside the Grand Canyon last month there were plenty AZT runners. That's when I heard about people doing Rim to Rim to Rim and I thought no way, but now at least I'll get to see it on video. Looking forward to your trip! I would probably bring a little more toilet paper because the toilet paper in those bathrooms at the bottom kinda sucks. It's definitely getting really hot down there at around the 100° F range. You don't mention the route you are taking or the time of year. It makes a HUGE difference. In the winter months some of the "routine" water stops are turned off, and on the rims it can be as cold as 0 and blizzarding (traction required). In the summer the inner canyon can easily be 110-115. The park service is there to "help"...but they don't want to be rescuing people who are unprepared. The South Kaibab Trail is exposed and often windy, whereas the Bright Angel Trail is more protected. I have often brought an umbrella for sun protection (but you need to be able to shut it down when the mules pass!). Happy trails
Do you ever just think it's worth the time and trouble to just walk and take your time and enjoy the surroundings? Just like cyclists that just shoot all over the place and never see what they could enjoy.
I’m on the PCT right now and talking to half the hikers is like talking to clones. Their only topic of conversation is “when did you start” and “how many miles are you doing per day” and “where are you trying to camp tonight” It’s all a big ego driven pissing match for so many people. It’s so disappointing. I want to start a Hike Slow movement - I’ve met other people out here who are in it for reasons other than running blindly along a red line in an app with little to no understanding of their surroundings and those people are gems. People with actual interests other than speed and gear. I’ve met a geologist, a couple of scholars studying the impact of hikers on the environment, some retired folks realizing their life dreams etc. When you meet these people of substance on trail it makes it worth it and also makes all the gear-focused, high mileage, social media obsessed fastbois and girls seem as ridiculous as they look. Bunch of clones man. The slow hikers are so interesting though.
Perhaps we should stop worrying so much about the differences we have, and rather focus on the fact that we’re all out there enjoying it in our own way. We’re not robots. We are all different. Hopefully the more people get along the better we will all take care of the wild places we spend our time in.

Are alcohol stoves allowed below the rim? I thought only those with a shut off valves were allowed.

@@helpfulcommenter I agree. For me its more of an escape. A chance to disconnect and relax. I've got nowhere to be and all day to get there.
