I am in love with whoever made this. This is the finest set of videos on the French horn, etc. Thanks so much, gemstone.

Excellent! Thanks so much for posting this video. I used it on a horn with three totally stuck valves, which had stood unused for a year, and freed up all of them.

First, the video is great and very informative. I am a French horn and teach a lot of students; I learned alot. However, there is one bo-bo. At 5:33, the repairman has put oil into the slides and is turning it into the horn. But, the way he's turning it will not get oil into the valved.

Do the rotor ports, the openings, appear to be more oval than round? How do tapered rotors allow it to be tightened? If it is moved down to make it tighter how does that not affect the alignment of the ports with the tubing? Why can't they design these with ball bearings that can be replaced?

Can someone tell me an alternative to valve oil?

Chocolate and Peanut-Butter. Just cram a handfull of reese's-peices into your mouth, chew 10 times, then play away!
P.S. I am not responsible for any damage incurred to your brass instrument by following this process.

It really depends how desperate you are! I have seen some trumpet players take there valves out and stick them in there mouth! But really water will work okay if your in a jam! But what i recommend taking your valve out and cleaning it! Take all the slide grease off! It wont stick as much.. (Hopefully) Haha
