(Español) Compuse la Tonadilla hace bastante tiempo, quizá unos 20 años, por encargo del dúo formado por Isa Presti y Alexandre Lagoya. Yo conocía a Ida Presti desde hacía tiempo pues tocaba la guitarra de manera extraordinaria desde que era niña. Escribí pues para guitarra una serie de pequeñas suites que titulé Tonadilla evocando las tonadillas del siglo XVIII.
El primer movimiento es muy difícil, es un Allegro muy vivo. Viene después un Minueto pomposo y para terminar, un pequeño final, todo ello muy español.

(English) I composed the Tonadilla a long time ago, maybe about 20 years. It was a commissión of the duo composed by Ida Presti and Alexandre Lagoya. I had met Ida Presti in her childhood, when she played the guitar extraordinary well.
I wrote this piece for guitar as a number of small suites that I titled Tonadilla, evoking the eighteenth century.
The first movement is very difficult, is a lively Allegro. Comes then a Minuet pompous and finally, a small end, all very Spanish.

Devastating ability. I know the Bream/Williams version very well. This is something of a revelation.
There's also a fine version by Narciso Yepes and Godelieve Monden, both on ten-string guitars, but I haven't come across it on TH-cam yet. As the Maestro said in his introduction, he wrote it for the husband-wife guitar duo of Alexandre Lagoya and Ida Presti, which also doesn't seem to be on TH-cam. The Assad brothers do an excellent job, too.
Bream and Williams were two great guitarrists together. This is a duo that becomes a single instrument. I know what you mean when you speak of revelation. But here in Brazil, the Abreu brothers who came before started this tradition, taking up from Presti and Lagoya who were truly the first masters of this kind of ensemble.

@@vavaMasked Yes, I have it on a Yepes/Monden CD from 1992 called "Guitar Duos" (BMG 09026-60764-2), with music of Rodrigo, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Carulli, Ruiz-Pipó, Petit, Gurjieff, and Ford.
Now there are many better interprets...Better sound and much more emotions......
