      Thanks :D I started on flat lap and moved over to grinding wheels. I found the flat laps needed replaced often, and what really got to me was the forced downtime

      @@heaveninearthopals3855 fair enough. I'm a bit of a tinkerer so my equipment gets a lot of unforced downtime... my beef with gem machines is more techniques than anything. If you buy a rub, you can almost bet the face is concave. That's because the seller quickly jammed the stone flat against the wheel and didn't bother to straighten. Means rounding of the sides is a real pain

    I had no idea Ethiopian opals could withstand acetone. Now I’m wondering if acetone could revive Welo opals that have absorbed body oil or other surface contaminates.🤔
