  • Eddie Martinez is the most influential Hip Hop guitarist EVER. Having recorded guitar on RUN-D.M.C.'s hits "Rock Box" and "King of Rock", Eddie is responsible for introducing electric guitar into the hip hop scene in the mid 1980s.
But Eddie's career didn't stop there. His guitar playing can also be heard on a multitude of platinum-selling records such as Robert Palmer's "Riptide", Steve Winwood's "Back in the High Life", Mick Jagger's' "She's The Boss", and David Lee Roth's "Crazy from the Heat" (to name just a few).
Today, we're sitting down with Eddie to talk about his experience working with some of the world's biggest artists, what gear he used to get his signature sound, and much more!

@@eddiemartinez6510What a great collection of stories about collaboration and the technology from my favorite time of music, and I and I feel very privileged that Robert Palmer was my first concert way back in the day , in Minneapolis MN Orpheum Theater in 1985 or 1986 ? It must have been all the Jerry Garcia Band & Grateful Dead shows from 1990 - 94 that is possibly the reason for my current memories being less than perfect but I wouldn't change anything other than not seeing more shows, but I will get by!!!

Hey Mason, thanks for having Eddie on your channel and also thanks for all the other session players you’re hosting.
Ever since I started playing in the early 80s, I’ve been attracted to the use of guitar in pop music, especially music of that era where the guitar wasn’t the main focus and the songs were not necessarily riff-based. The players were allowed to experiment with textures, sounds and all sorts of really neat parts that lifted the song and didn’t scream for the spotlight. Eddie’s playing is a good example of this.

Damn Love Eddie Martinez, seen him live with a few people in NYC like Nona Hendryx, loved him in vids with Robert, or like the Beasties, also met him when I was an engineer at Quad Recording studios, plus seeing him at the music shops around the corner from Quad.. love seeing this...

Awesome interview. I went down the rabbit hole a while back learning everything I could about the two Robert Palmer songs you covered. This is so much more to the point, and straight from the man himself. So cool!
    Thank you, Jason and Eddie!!

Thanks for the music Eddie and thank you Vertex Effects for the interview. I was always wondering who played the solo on Simply Irresistible. For a long time I thought it was Vernon Reid😂😂 Pleasantly surprised to learn that Eddie played on some of my favourite songs from my youth.
