    My wife had a spontaneous onset of bipolar and to this day I believe it is primarily endogenous in her case. But despite how acute it was and what medical emergency it was, in hindsight, I wish I had accepted it. Like a child breaking a bone it needs urgent treatment but you don't want to panic and start amputating limbs.
    I wish we had considered that medical emergency or not, sometimes there is no magic bullet treatment and watchful waiting with proper medical supervision is a safe option even in an acute crisis provided there is a proper safety plan etc.
