Honolulu J2K and J2K Pro Review: 100% Kevlar Paddles. My #1 Best Paddle of 2024 (Summer Edition)

- Honolulu has charged onto the scene with a wide array of options but the J2K is by far my favorite paddle from their lineup. It comes in at a great price and beats the Six Zero Ruby in performance and cost. Whether you are a beginner, former tennis player, or advanced player the J2K might be the fit for you. The J2K Pro is a power and pop beast that won’t fit everyone’s game but gives you all the offense you could want for a great price.

The visible Kevlar weave just looks so good. Would be a head turner on the courts. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
Great review! Heard talks about this paddle last week and did a youtube search and your review is the most impressive. Looks like the J2K, dark blue is the way to go for me. Having a Six Zero DBD currently I was almost tempted to try upgrade to the Ruby until now but darn are they are hard to come by when released…but now I think they are over hyped and overpriced seeing some comments Ive been reading here. I like the control features of the J2K and most of the specs are similar to Ruby but way more reasonably priced.
J2K is the way to go for me between the two for sure.
Man you just convinced me to put the J2K at the top of my wish list. That thing looks and sounds amazing.
Love new poppy paddles!!! J2K Pro looks sick with that dark blue coloration.
Love that this paddle gives the Ruby some competition at a much better price! Super interested to get my hands on one seems Kevlar paddles would suit my game really well. Thanks for the review!
Thanks Blair, definitely try them if you get the chance.
I love the blue color option on the J2K!
I went from the J3 to the J2K and J2K Pro and couldn’t be happier with the quality and value of Honolulu Pickleball Co. paddles. I give a slight edge to the J2K Pro but that’s only because I’ve come to like a little bit of a poppier paddle. I would have zero issues though just playing the J2K. And that blue Kevlar is really sharp!
Wow looks like you are loving the Honolulu lineup!
Both look like great options, leaning towards the J2K Pro though. Thanks for the review!
The J2K is on my final list of paddles to get, along with the Spartus Apollo and the Volair M2F 14. The lower swing weight and higher twist weight just appeals to me. Thanks for reviewing it, along with the pro!
Hard to pick between them all but they are all great choices. Just have to go with the attribute that you like the best.
J2kpro looks outstanding, also I’m a sucker for anything with a “pro” designation. Great review and nice speed!
We all like to be prod
I've been looking for my first real paddle from my $30 chopping board. Intrigued by the spin and power of J2K- ty for the review and comparison to the Ruby!
Definitely a good one to get to upgrade from a chopping board for sure
I purchased the J2K last week! It will replace my Ruby in the rotation! Thanks for reviewers like you I am able to use a better paddle and save some money! The Ruby will used as a practice paddle now!🙏🏽
Awesome!!! Yeah, always good to have some backup paddles
Thanks for the excellent review. You helped me make my decision to buy the J2K. I like the all round ability that the J2K offers, Drives, resets, punches. Keep up the good reviews!
Thanks Faloon hope the paddle brings you come good games!
I'm extremely interested in how the kevlar surface plays on both paddles. I played with the ruby for a short period and really enjoyed it but the price was a no go for me. The price of the j2k is so much more appealing. I'm so excited
Love the review. Want to try the J2K Pro because I would feel my game needs a poppier paddle. Presently, using the Apes Pro Line Energy S but when I punch block the ball doesn't feel that it returns the energy I put into it. Feel the J2K Pro may provide that extra pop that I'm looking for. I love the kevlar reviews because I am hoping the durability opinions are true.
Yo! You killed this review. The J2K is still my fave. Glad you got one in your hands. Now, what interests me about this paddle is getting one of them in my pop’s hands! 😝
Thank you! I think your dad just needs to visit you and take a couple of those paddles.
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleball My J2K isn't ever getting away from me! Haha
I have been playing with the J2 for a while now and really like it but that J2K seems like 🔥🔥
Great review. I like that the j2k has a lot of the characteristics of a ruby with improvements at a good value.
One of the best price and performance combos you can get
Great information, thanks for another informative review. Been looking at the J2K and it is great to see the comparison to the J2K Pro.
It's wild that they achieved that high of a twistweight with a slightly narrow hybrid shape. I could certainly benefit from the added forgiveness on off-center shots!
I like the bang for the buck of both the J2K and the J2K Pro's. I've had a hard time getting a Ruby so the availability and cheaper price of the J2K is great.
shots immedietly fired at the ruby, i like your style
I’m just here to deliver honest and unbiased reviews. Thank you!
The blue J2K looks awesome. I love the J2K pro and really want to compare it to the J2K now
J2K Pro is soo much fun
the blue kevlar looks pretty niceeeeeeeee
J2K looks like such a nicely balanced paddle and would make a great next paddle after my Vatic Pro Prism Flash. Love the shape.
The best 100% Kevlar paddle with great design and lower price. Love it! Followed all steps for the give away, hopefully I will win.
May the odds be ever in your favor.
Increased dwell time with the J2K very appealing.. ty4 the vid.
Love these HPC paddles. I have the J2 and J3 now and enjoy the way they play. Would like to try the J2K pro with the pop and power it has. Keep em coming!
I like the J2K pro the fact that it is using kevlar with a pricetag of $145. An affordable paddle with premium specs.
as a singles player i am all for the power paddles with a hybrid shape!
I like the value proposition of the J2K
The J2K specs compare very favorably to more expensive paddles I’ve researched. I ordered the blue J2k and anxious to try it out.
I have been wanting to try a Kevlar paddle. I might have to pull the trigger on this since the Ruby is so hard to get
It sounds like the J2K would fit my type of play. I play with the Joola Ben Johns Hyperion. I am more of a control player as opposed to a power player. I really like the soft feel of the Hyperion, although I've noticed a noticeable decrease in spin on my Hyperion. I tried the Zero 6 Diamond but did not like the hard feel of the ball coming off the Zero 6. I'm hoping that the J2k will fit my game to a T. Thanks for the review. It's
extremely informative. Keep up the great work. Sincerely Rogelio Martinez
Thank you for the great response Rogelio. Everything you describe about your game sounds like the J2K would be a great fit for you.
Nice review boss!! J2K is far and away the better choice IMO as well
Thank you! J2K all the way
Thank you for your review of the J2K paddles. I’m interested in the J2K Blue paddle as I like a more all court paddle.
Love the comparison and I’m leaning towards J2K.
I like the J2k price point and the am intrigued about trying kevlar out.
I think it's fantastic that there are now so many great paddles available at a lower price. You no longer have to sacrifice performance and quality with an affortable paddle. I really like the color of the blue one. I know that not everyone will like a bible verse printed on their paddle but I think it's great that they're willing to promote what they stand for.
Amen!
J2k sounds so good with the low swingweight and high twistweight combo!
Is the shape a bit more elongated than some other hybrids? With those twist weight numbers, the sweet spot must be…sweet! Thanks for your content and reviews!
Actually a little shorter by 0.1” and stays at the 7.8” wide instead of the taper that Six Zero uses. A little less reach for better stability.
That Kevlar version would definitely match my game a lot more since i prefer more control oriented paddles since i dont have trouble producing my own power
Great review! Affordable Kevlar, nice option!
Nice review. J2k pro looks like a fun paddle…
Thanks for the recommendation. J2K seems like a good way to go for casual players.
Forgot to mention that their shape for the J2K is ideal for me and also coming in Kevlar.
I’ve been eyeing the Ruby. So the J2K intrigues me as possibly a slightly better paddle for a better price. I’m really curious to try it.
Excited about the dwell time on the J2K
How do you compare to the Spartus Apollo?
Apollo: More pop, lower sw, a little stiffer, a little more spin, w little more stable
J2K: More power, longer reach, softer
Both are great just depends which shape you want with which benefits
Great review! I’m interested in the Kevlar surface! Haven’t tried a Kevlar yet
This is much better price point for kevlar paddles. I like that they have option of darker blue color for the j2k though personally I would pay 10 bucks more for the black j2k pro with that bringing more power without a lot of effort. 😎 With great power, comes great responsibilities.
Oh yeah with all that power you have to be careful out there 😂
Looking to try Kevlar paddle. J2K is interesting as it sounds like it can help with my control (I’ve had to learn how to play left handed due to frayed rotator cuff and disconnected biceps). J2K Pro seems interesting as I am more of a “power” player but I probably don’t have enough skill/experience for this level paddle.
Sorry about the injury. I could see needing the extra power/pop playing with your non-dominant hand but I imagine the soft game is even harder with your non-dominant hand. J2K still has good power so I’d lean that way.
I wouldn't be able to handle the pro so it's a no brainer! J2k is a more all around paddle.
so many choices, really want to get a new paddle, tough to decide
Pick a few of the attributes most important to you and go with a paddle that fits those. A lot of these paddles will work well.
How do you clean these Kevlar paddles? You can’t use the eraser on them like in the carbon fiber paddles?
Most people are using a cloth dampened with warm water.
Great review. Waiting for one.
The price point and the fact that its better than the ruby is pretty impressive
Love your video! The Hudef viva pro gen3 is a blend of Kevlar and carbon fiber and looks like a great paddle, can you do a comparison between them?
I haven’t hit the Hudef viva pro gen3 but I know it has a sw of 124 which is very high so it will feel way slower in your hands than a J2K.
How does the J2K Pro compare with the 6.Zero Black Diamond (Fiberglass) as far as pop and power?
Or the J2H which uses a combination of fiberglass and raw carbon fiber. J2k pro looks like a sick option for those who have their control game….under control.
I don’t have the black diamond but if have the bd infinity and it had more power less pop. Not as stiff.
J2K pro. Like the power and pop aspect.
Interested to see the difference between the DBD against J2K and the Gen3 against the Pro model. I’ve primarily played with DBD for about 6 months
Joola gen 3 coming in the mail today
I like the regular J2K as it is an all around paddle. Would like to test it out soon.
Wanted to get the Ruby, but I have yet to find a reviewer pick the Ruby over the J2K. The price point and similar specs won me over.
Even if they were the same price, I’d recommend the J2K.
Very good play with the J2K and nice price!
Thanks Darrell!
So what caught my interest? When you mentioned all the comparison points (price point especially along with the weight comparisons to the Ruby), you caught my attention here. I'm still curious as to how this compares to the Thrive Azul 16mm? Especially since they can come customized right from ordering? Keep it up with the great informative content.
Thank you! The Azul has a lot more pop and is harder to control if you don’t like that pop when compared to the J2K.
J2K seems good for my level! Then I'll upgrade to the J2K Pro
Good plan!
Kind of a funny thing - but I like the pro’s non-red face😂
like the color choices
Interested in supporting a Christian-based company that offers the latest in technology/performance at affordable prices. It's nice to see comparable (if not better) paddles (vs the big names), so the masses can get in on some fun without breaking the bank. Great job reviewing!
Thanks appreciate it, I’m trying to highlight affordable premium paddles when I can.
Honestly would like to try both but the J2K seems more manageable
Already have a Ruby. Looking to try the J2K in Blue. Interested to try the difference in performance.
Let me know if you get it, curious to hear other thoughts.
@AllDriveNoDropPickleball I have pre-ordered it for the shipment, hopefully to go out this week.
I played with the Ruby for three months and felt the spin was decreasing. Been playing with J2k for a week or so. I feel has power and pop than Ruby. Getting great spin as well for now at least.
@AllDriveNoDropPickleball I have used the J2K blue for a couple of weeks now. It has replaced my Ruby as my go to paddle. I do think the sweet spot is a little bigger, and the ball comes off the paddle with a little more zip, but not too hard to control. Really enjoying it! The Ruby is now my back up paddle.
@@stephendesantis6302 awesome to hear it has been working well for you! One of the best all around paddles on the market
Definitely going for the more offensive J2K Pro
J2k in blue seems cool. Most interested in sweet spot and spin as a casual "ping-ponger" turned pickleballer. Thanks for the vid. Seems to be the consensus pick v the ruby. Especially for the price.
Oh yeah for sure
J2K and Spartus competing for the budget Kevlar paddle territory, competition promotes innovation, its exciting.
Love all the good options under $150
Other reviewers report the J2K a little more stiffer feel than the Ruby.
Can you use the carbon fiber eraser to clean the Kevlar J2K? Saw on different channel that you can. If so any particular way to do it? Thx.
Yeah, you can I have uses it without any issues. There was some confusion from info given out but it has been proven to be ok now.
J2k all the wayyy
I'm more interested in the Pro just bc I'm used to playing with the Engage Mx Pro, which has a lot of pop.
Currently playing with the well reviewed and received Control paddle the Vatic Pro Prism Flash.
How would the J2K compare as it too seems to be a control bass paddles. Would the J2K be too similar and suggest the Pro version instead or would the J2K have other benefits the the Prism flash doesn’t?
J2K will have more power and pop than the Prism Flash and will be an upgrade for your power game. The J2K would be a great jump up for you and I wouldn’t go straight to the J2K Pro because the control would be drastically different from the Prism Flash.
john 3:16
I am hoping that the spin will last a little longer than a carbon fiber paddle.
Thanks for your review! The J2K sounds sweet! I have the Ruby and am very disappointed. The lower 1/3 of mine is like a dead zone with no pop at all. Off-center blocks just drop into the net. I think maybe it is a manufacturing defect, but Six Zero refused to warranty mine since it is not delaminated. But maybe, this is simply a normal Ruby with a crappy sweet spot. I like that you said the J2K has a better sweet spot! That is the aspect of it that makes it sound much better than the Ruby for me!
I’m playing with a Vatic prism flash now since it is much more predictable and consistent than the Ruby. But still looking around for a consistent paddle with more power. I’ll probably wait until June so I can see all the new releases everyone is talking about first. The J2K is a definite contender for me! Can’t beat the price and quality vs the Ruby! Thanks for your review!
Thanks for the comment John. Yeah so much stuff coming out. I think the new releases will slow down soon everyone wants to get their release out before peak summer season.
J2k pro seems like the paddle I woud enjoy more due to the +power
How is this compared to the Apollo?
For the pro
More power more pop, little less spin and a lot harder to control with a higher sw
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleball Thank you for the quick reply! I love my PPE and M2F14, but looking for something in the middle - I control my blocks and resets and drops great with PPE, but the occasional mishits on drives (cause I try to swing hard and miss the sweet spot) is what is hurting the game.
So I was thinking this might be a great fit!
@@fe0g I would say the J2K would be a great fit between those two for you.
Great review 🎉🎉🎉
J2k al the way
The blue color looks nice! I heard some people don't like the J2K due to lower power. Your stats show very minimal speed difference between the two. What's your take?
Not a huge power difference just looking at the numbers. You cam feel the pop difference more than anything
J2K would be better for me but tempted by the Pro
I have a Hyperion joola, I like the power but the control Is kinda bad, which one would you recommended J2k or J2k pro? I like the power but need some control
J2K, it has room to add weight for more power too.
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleballsweet thanks
I like the J2K.
Does the j2k feel like the ruby when hitting? I have a j7k pro and it feels super stiff, coming from the ruby
The Pro versions are definitely stiffer than the Ruby. The J2K is a lot softer and feels more like the Ruby’s soft feeling.
How long does the grit on Kevlar paddles like the J2K last compared to more conventional raw carbon fiber paddles like the Vatic Pro Flash or Ronbus Pulsar R1?
It is still similar because they are both using peel-ply for the grit. Just depends on their process for how long each one will last.
Currently, I am using a 16mm six-zero DBD. Which version do you recommend, J2K or J2K pro?
J2K for sure. The J2K would be a huge change for you. I think the J2K is a natural fit and upgrade from the DBD 16mm.
@@AllDriveNoDropPickleball thank you for so quick response!
J2K first then J2k Pro as I improve =)
I'm most people so J2K is good got me
My J2K kicks!
Hearing great things about Honolulu PB paddles and the culture of the company!
John 3:16 stamped on every paddle.
yeah, the one thing missing from pickleball was jesus
That's the one bad thing about the paddle. Ridiculous
About time we have an option other than Six Zero price gouging us. J2K looks sick. Great review!
And Six Zero has horrible customer service.
The J2K would be my pick! All around paddle with more control would really help my game!
The J2k seems to be universally recommended by reviewers and seems like a no brainer given the price, it's on the top of my list for my next paddle purchase.
