I really would like students to take more exams and study more programs because my parents yelled at me SO much for switching majors as an adult, but I felt like I couldn't help it. Also, there aren't many indicators of what one should study without scores and classes in so many subjects.

i don't know what part you are refering to, but universities are free in france, and a lot of "grandes écoles" are cheap, and the most prestigious are even paying their students. The expensive schools are schools of trading and economy.
