You ain’t never lied. My basement is unfinished because I bought a spec model and their own salesperson told me it would be cheaper to have someone else have it finished. So for a home I bought newly built 7/2019, I am now slowly doing the things I would have wanted when I first closed. Like there was no hardware on the cabinets. So yes they work just fine but, they ain’t got no handles. The stove is brand new but I want and am going to buy a new one. I know now some of my friends will say that stove is perfectly fine. And thanks to your channel, I am taking my time to make into my dream home and getting great ideas. Keep doing what you do! I am inspired every time I see your home to keep moving forward with my upgrades.
As a designer you have certain insight as far home design and decor. However, the average buyer buys a home to live in comfortably initially... upgrades might be slated for the future. They may not want to deal with the time and effort of customization - not to mention the cost of a professional designer services. It’s great you inform of the value of quality...you are an expert in that area. However, I would love to hear your suggestions on cost effective, esthetically appealing choices and possibly builder options that the average buyer may not be aware of. Love your vision!
Comfortability might be the initially want in the begininng but most people want some sort of customization, at least thats what I've experience with my client's. When it come to what the builder is offering, my suggestion is invest your money in the kitchen, master bath and outside. I would change everything else myself
I agree with you in regards to not putting the master bedroom door throughout the house. There is a saying "too much of one thing is good for nothing". I really love that you went over these things again. Locking these gems in my mind. Although your upgrade may be costly for some. Can you really put a price on how comfortable you are in your home? I don't think so. Yes, You have to be mindful of the amount you spend because it can eat up your profit when selling it later down the line. I agree with the "Owner's suite" door. It doesn't seem to make sense to put it everywhere. I think you described your style perfectly. Doing the doors that way would make sense in a large Victorian home, it's far more traditional and can accommodate for that type of design choice. Hopefully, I'm making sense.

Listen, your home is beautiful. Let’s normalize black women living in luxury and getting what you want . It makes it easier to pay for it when it’s what you want . Also , I 100% agree with you regarding flooring . Often times sales people try to steer me to purchasing cheaper flooring for my rental properties whether it’s carpet or vinyl but I always say I don’t want to replace it in a few years and I want to rent a property that someone will be comfortable raising their family in.

I closed on my new construction townhouse in November 2020 the one area that I'm not happy with are the luxury vinyl floors especially in the guest bathroom & laundry room which are both upstairs. Within the first 3 weeks the floors were lifting..The builder had to repair not only my home but other homes within the subdivision in March. I'm waiting after the 1 year walk through to switch the floors. One of the upgrades that I was adamant about was the real hardwood stairs that was the best 2,500 I spent. Thank you for this video, over time I will make changes
Hey Nadia I totally get where you are coming from. We have similar taste in design, but I have been going crazy trying to design my home. It’s not a new build, but it’s a colonial with very traditional design which I love, but I want to upgrade it to my taste and maintain its character without doing to much. First thing I’m doing is changing the flooring upstairs to hardwood which is all carpet now (exception the bathrooms) 🤦🏽♀️ I don’t plan on living in this home forever we will definitely move, but I want to live comfortably now as I spend my time there. Thanks for the great ideas and your home is beautiful. ❤️

Kids do not care who made the piece they just know what it’s made for and sometimes they don’t care about that🙃. I can’t believe you’ve received negative comments about the trim work and your door selection. You and Noah have flipped this house and I love it! I understand everything you are saying. I went through this process last year and there is price differences and having someone else do it does make a difference in cost.
I 100% agree with the flooring. If you love it fo you I love it but that thin piece of flooring wasn’t gona cut it for my man and son. My son was riding his scooter on our new floors two days after install, with daddy’s supervision. Spend the money and get the 100 year warranty. I’m not trying to replace floors every ten years. Hardwood is worth it!!

I understand where your coming from yes the builders prices are way more, when I built a few years ago there where a lot a things I did not get but have been making changes every since an now almost done, but thing I do regret is doing hard woods thru out because I cannot walk on my floors w/o slippers. Omg it will mess your feet up. So honey please keep slippers on and your home is beautiful.

I think sometimes you are talking to people who are at different level, experiences, life experience, financial levels and knowledge. I personally think a lot of people have limiting mindsets in many areas of their lives so seeing something out of their comfort they challenge the new ideas. Which isn’t wrong but my gosh. I also feel like there are some other undertones present. At any rate I’ve learned a lot. Some ideas I’ve used! Keep doing you! Keep growing!

Happy belated mother's day I love hard wood floors to when we brought this home my suggested carpet instead of hardwood floors but now he sees that we should have got hardwood floors an has a lot of traffic in and out of the house plus allergies then carpet is not the right way to go. What are some tricks to this..not going with the fads and allowing your home not to seem dated in a few years?

You were smart to install hardwood as opposed to LVP because the latter does not increase your home value.

White cabinets aren't going anywhere, the tip is to introduce another tone with your island... it can be a paint color or a wood tone.
