    I have a question so for in the US we don't get the brand that you use either or. But at the end though you showed the jug , you said something about PPG , so instead of using behr 8300 & jo Sonia , 3 /1 , as in the course, are you suggesting to use like PPG and then another house paint in place of Jo Sonja but one in low Sheen? And not mixing like behr 8300 and Jo Sonya? And yes it has colors were yummy . Hope that makes sense. Thanks 😉

    • @venomfluidart
      @venomfluidart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lisa, the problem is with US paint is it's different to the Aussie stuff, I know if you mix the valspar semi gloss with the behr 8300 it works well. There are a load of different untinted house paints that will work but it really gets expensive testing them all. I have another 2 secret recipe's I also use when it's hot weather that are totally different brands.
      I know the behr has a few different numbers that also works, I just can't remember what they are at the moment.

    • @venomfluidart

      I make small quantities ready to go, usually 150-200 colours. I prefer small amounts as they are quick and easy to adjust when needed.

    When you mix your little cups, how long will it keep before drying out? So if i mix a bunch, like you do, but something happens and i have to go a bit before i paint, how long can it go? Do they get thick? If so, what do you add to thin them back. Love it. Although I'm in US and use Behr.

    • @venomfluidart
      @venomfluidart  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jo, I have colours still sitting there from over 6 months ago, if they thicken up I’ll just add a little josonja gloss varnish or a drop of water too thin it.

    I got some from bunnings TODAY. Its needs th floetrol CA. I tried minvax with one combo. Cant see benefit. I like what i got with each indivdually. Though the taubman sunroof comb flows more. Why do i need the varnish . Is it to wet pigment down? Or to thin which taubman needs cheers

    • @venomfluidart
      @venomfluidart  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The combination of both makes it mire stable as it dries. Yes floetrol for the ca is a huge help.
      The josonja gloss varnish helps disperse pigments, thin the pouring medium if it's too thick when you add tube paints. Just using water alone can break up the pigments in all brands of paint if you add too much to thin it down. The gloss varnish helps as you can thin your colours down without them splitting.
      Don't use minwax, it dries far too fast with our pouring medium and cracks.

    • @venomfluidart
      @venomfluidart  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, you don't need to add the josonja gloss varnish to the pouring medium as you disperse the pigments in it.

      I don't get it. When do you use sojonia

  • @samarahc
    @samarahc ปีที่แล้ว

    So you only use this mix during winter? And you use the sunproof one by itself during summer? But be careful, mixing it with the josonja.

    • @venomfluidart
      @venomfluidart  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use it all year round, but it’s over 55 degrees in the garage during summer here so I use a completely different pouring medium during summer.

    What are alternatives to Josonja?

    • @venomfluidart
      @venomfluidart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you use alternative products you don't get the same results. The josonja works well as it dries slower than other polyurethane gloss varnish.

    Have you heard the debate about the word “activator”. It makes it sound like there is a chemical reaction. Which is impossible with mixing several water based liquids. That includes silicones, detergents etc. beginners think there isn’t artistry they just have to wait for the chemicals to “activate “

    • @venomfluidart
      @venomfluidart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have Brian, the term activator is used as part of the sheleeart recipe for blooms rather than cell additive like when mixing silicone etc too the paints.
      Does a cell activator actually activate anything? It helps start the process of creating cells but an external force needs to be applied ( the blow) without the external force it does bugger all.
      Totally different to additive in the paint.
      When you activate traction control on a vehicle you activate it by pressing a button so the term activator can be used, without that external force of pressing the button nothing happens.
      As far as a chemical reaction in water based product... there is, you must remember paint isn't just water.Most water based paints are emulsions of plastics particles dispersed in water, it is common to use vinyl acetate to make polyvinyl acetate. To do this an emulsion of vinyl acetate in water is formed, then by adding a free radical initiator.
      One purpose which fine clay can furfill in the paint polymer synthesis is to increase the stability of the emulsion of droplets of the liquid monomer. These clay particles will be incorperated into the final paint.
      It is also common to add other inorganic substances such as barium sulfate and titanium dioxide. These are used to make the paint more opaque.
      One classic organic based paint class is the alkyd paint, these are made by reacting acid anhydrides such as phthalic and maleic anhydride with a polyalcohol such as glycerol or 2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diol under acidic conditions. It is normal to distill water out of the reaction, often an unsaturated fatty acid is added in the form of a glycerol triester (vegtable oil).
      The idea is that with glycerol the fatty acid ester will react in a transestification reaction to add pedent groups onto the main polymer. Then when the paint is exposed to oxygen a radical cross linking reaction occurs. The other main option I see is to add some maleic acid to the synthesis of the paint binder. The to add some styrene to the paint. This again will cross link with a radical reaction.
      For the alkyd paint synthesis there is no need to add talc, these polymerisations are done under homogenous conditions by heating a close to solvent free mixture of monomers. Rather than being a radical polymerisation (example of an addition polymerisation) this reaction is a condensation polymersation where many small chains are converted into a few long chains.
      So technically there is.
      Not what causes cells as density of the fluid does that.
