How long are we going to blame the British for our poor state of affairs. Can't we do anything ourselves. Other Asian countries were below us at time of Independence and now they are prosperous.

Some people (Indians especially) are not sovereign by God which is why the history the claim is the history of people who have occupied them and build civilization on the sub continent. But their envy will forever blame the British for their own problems just like africa

@V I nearly peed myself laughing. Sorry, dude. You lived in stone age, literally. India was great 2000 years ago but in decline afterwards. It's just recently, when you finally adopted a more capitalist, western economic system, that living standards improved. The British contributed a lot. Let me put it this way by just hitting your former Prime Minister (go tell him he doesn't deserve to be Indian, you laughing stock):
"Today, with the balance and perspective offered by the passage of time and the benefit of hindsight, it is possible for an Indian prime minister to assert that India's experience with Britain had its beneficial consequences too. Our notions of the rule of law, of a constitutional government, of a free press, of a professional civil service, of modern universities and research laboratories have all been fashioned in the crucible where an age-old civilisation met the dominant Empire of the day."
      Dr Singh.
      Go figure.

Indians assisted with Empire because it brought them unprecedented order and civility. Despite the country's vast population, there were never more than 70,000 British troops in India; the running of the country required an enormous infrastructure of native troops, police and bureaucrats. As Hitler observed, Indians merely had to spit all at once and every Briton in India would have drowned. the fact is that British rule in India was a joint effort, impossible without the widespread co- operation of Indians themselves

If only the British had ruled India for another 20-30 years. India would have been rid of half its problems. Only the laws laid by the British stayed in India - they were the best reformers of evil native practices like Sati. Today thanks to the British no one hears of Sati. Independent India outlawed dowry, beggary, female infanticide - result is that these practices have flourished in past 60 years. Think about that before you say the British were evil. Better yet - quit your cricket & tea!

India was known as sone ki chidhiya (golden bird). India was a country which had everything, from money to gold to animals to beauty. India was the wealthiest land in the ancient times and hence it was called ' sone ki chidiya'. British looted $45 trillion from India in today's value.

    • @charananekibalijaun8837
      @charananekibalijaun8837 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

No doubt, India achieved her political unification under the British rule. Prior to the rule of the British, India was divided into a number of states and there was no unity among the rulers of different states. The rulers always fight against one another in order to establish their power. They lacked political unity which was the chief reason of their defeat against the British.
The British conquered all these states one after another and established an empire in India. The British had introduced a uniform system of administration throughout the country. Furthermore, introduction of the railways, telegraphs and unified postal system promoted mutual contact among the people. Undoubtedly, the British Liberated India from the medieval traditions and laid the foundations of modern administrative system in the country.
The credit of origin of administrative machinery also goes to the British rule. The post mutiny period witnessed the growth and development of this administrative system. The Indian Civil Service, the Indian Police Service, the Indian Audit and Account Service, the Indian Medical Service, the Indian Education Service, the Revenue and Judicial Service created an administrative machinery that not only shouldered the responsibility of the work of Government on a large scale but also dealt with the famine, plague, means of transport and communication, agricultural projects etc.
Credit goes to the British Government for the establishment of popular institutions. The Legislative Council was set up in 1853 and later enlarged in 1861 to induct some nominated members. With the Morley Minto reforms the provincial legislative councils began to reflect popular opinion. The principle of direct election for democracy was introduced in the Montague Chelmsford Act, The Government of India Act of 1935 made Provinces autonomous. Besides this, the local-self Government of Lord Ripon provided training for democratic and self governing institutions in higher level. The credit of emergence of middle class also goes to the spread of English education during the British rule. Due to the English education, intellectual awakening took place among the middle class people. The intellectual middle class led the national movement and demanded self-rule for India. Another notable gift of the British to India is universal peace or freedom from external aggression and internal disorder.’ For the first time India witnessed such type of place which is very valuable for national growth. Thus we conclude that British rule contributed a lot for the progress of the Indians. The impact of western civilization was quite clear in Indian life, thought, dress, food and education etc. In the light of the above discussion, it is clear that British rule is responsible for the modernisation of the Indian civilization.

India is a false democracy and a disgusting nation. It would have remained better if self governing kingdoms such as the Sikh empire governed those within their own jurisdiction - Abruptly throwing all these micro nations into a national formation without it happening slowly and organically has resulted in mass overpopulation, those from poorer states moving to richer states and begging, corrupt politicians who aren't prosecuted because Indians are incapable of running a democracy when most of the country are backwards and primitive anyway.

@qq No, India would not have been better under British Rule. Under British Rule India's GDP (which used to make up 24.4% of the world's GDP before the British came) was brought down to just 4.2% of the world's GDP by policies implemented by the British. Today we have managed to double that and it's still increasing. Under British rule (in 1940) the life expectancy of Indians was just 32 years, today it is 70 years of age. By comparison the British life expectancy in the same period was double, and today is 78.7. In terms of famines, under the British rule famines were a regular occurrence and were caused by British tax codes, mandates of certain crops being grown, literal grain storages being forcefully taken and lack of assistance. Just one of these famines caused the deaths of 3 million people (the Bengal famine), which would have been equivalent to 10% of the population of Britain. Since independence not a single famine has occurred. Under the British, massacres were a regular occurrence (search up Jallianwala Bagh massacre for an example, where people in Amritsar gathered in the central square to celebrate the Vasakhi festival only to be mowed down by General Dire's machine guns).
      Edit: Shall I go on...

An English saying is 'Blessing in disguise' seems to fit perfectly when it comes to India. When British merchant ships landed or set foot on Indian soil, in Calcutta in 1763, and gradually work their way to form an empire of British rule less than a century which itself a remarkable feat of achievement for British, as they found an environment extremely fertile and in favourable, Indian's internal disparity among kings and warlords, religious differences, castism and centuries-old customs, beliefs of 'Ahinsa Permo-Dharma'. Robert Clive who truly deserved a credit for an achievement. A 189years of British rule when it came to its dying days high ranking British realised they made far too many and big mistakes, an error of judgement, and an ignorance, in-justice towards native Indians (a policy of grab n run, loot, pillage squeeze out last ounces of wealth from native Indian). But keeping an appearance British never admitted, even after leaving India as an Independent nation. Which played nicely for Hindu's as well as Muslims, and the illegitimate birth of Pakistan. What mind-boggling is so much wealth Britain extracted from their many outpost colonies, but a vast majority of British citizens or commoners was living in an abject poverty as this video clip gives a glimpse of such reality, where that wealth disappeared?

Maybe they didn't extract so much wealth after all? We know Britain had to give up her colonies because she was financially ruined. Empires cost money, and if you cannot extract enough to cover the costs of maintenance and governance, you'll finally have to give up on them. Not saying Britain didn't benefit, but u wouldn't say her colonial subjects hadn't benefitted as well. There's always two sides to a medal.

@@adityaji1 No doubt, India achieved her political unification under the British rule.
In the light of the above discussion, it is clear that British rule is responsible for the modernisation of the Indian civilization.

for all those who say british india was better and how britain helped india improve. i dont wanna start a war here lol but its just surprising what people just think about india by reading and listening things that are not so true. i have also provided evidence and sources where i could. I just feel so bad when people say that they picked indians up from streets provided education did so much when its all utter bull crap.
Some people say why indians always say bad about british for ruling and doing bad stuff to india although there were several others before them who did the same... well they didnt do exactly the same (i am not saying anything bad about britain. the things they did in past were bad, but they are not like that anymore. atleast thats what i think):-
Previous invaders and conquerors of Hindostan (india) mostly settled in the conquered territory and invariably employed the natives in the highest posts civil and military. Native ability was made use of in every department of the administration. Men of capacity, however humble their birth, might and did rise to be the highest functionaries of a Mohammedan monarch or became the heads of considerable Hindoo Empires themselves. The people were thus not crushed down by successive waves of interlopers who never make their homes in the country and drain away its produce steadily to a foreign land. But under English rule the old systems were completely changed.
India and China made up about 70% of the world economy till the 1700s. The Indian economy took a hit with the Islamic invasions, and then Plummeted to rock bottom during the British rule. According to economic historian Angus Maddison in his book The World Economy: A Millennial Perspective, India was the richest country in the world and had the world's largest economy until the 17th century AD.
By most estimates, the Indian Economy contributed about 30% of the world GDP by the time the Brits took over...and only about 2.5% by the time they left. The British rule of India (and the previous Islamic occupation of northern part of India) count as one of the biggest examples of wholesale looting in human history.
    1870-71
France, the US and other industrialising countries followed Germany in adopting a gold standard throughout the 1870s. At the same time, countries, such as Japan, which did not have the necessary access to gold or those, ''''' (IMPORTANT)such as India, which were subject to imperial policies (created by british) that determined that they did not move to a gold standard''''''''''', remained mostly on a silver standard. A huge divide between silver-based and gold-based economies resulted. The worst affected were economies with a silver standard that traded mainly with economies with a gold standard. With discovery of more and more silver reserves, those currencies based on gold continued to rise in value and those based on silver were declining due to demonetisation of silver. For India which carried out most of its trade with gold based countries, especially Britain, the impact of this shift was profound. As the price of silver continued to fall, so too did the exchange value of the rupee, when measured against sterling.
Evidence of tranferring indian capitol to britain
Tons of Silver Hauled Up After Decades Underseaworth £20m In December 1940 A large shipment of silver was sent from Calcutta aboard the British merchant ship SS Gairsoppa -
The silver was recovered from the Gairsoppa, which was carrying the riches to England from India in 1941 when a Nazi torpedo struck. (just google this its quite recent).
People talk about advancements and technology and schools that british brought in india.
Before british rule educationn was imparted through chains of elementary schools- pathshalas, Maktabs and madrasas for higher eduction (these are what schools and colleges called). Due to colonisation of india, education system suffered because comapany (i.e. east india company) had stopped giving institutions grants which were earlier given by indian rulers. The company showed littile interest in promotion of education in india. the only purpose of setting up some educational institutions in india was to ensure a steady supply of law courts set up by the company.
we already had education system which crashed due to lack of funds directly or indirectly by the british rule.
lets talk about what india already knew back then (about science technology , knowledge).
    Iron Pillar
The Vedic literatures contain descriptions of advanced scientific techniques, sometimes even more sophisticated than those used in our modern technological world.
Modern metallurgists have not been able to produce iron of comparable quality to the 22 foot high Iron Pillar of Delhi, which is the largest hand forged block of iron from antiquity.
This pillar stands at mute testimony to the highly advanced scientific knowledge of metallurgy that was known in ancient India. Cast in approximately the 3rd century B.C., the six and a half ton pillar, over two millennia has resisted all rust and even a direct hit by the artillary of the invading army of Nadir Shah during his sacking of Delhi in 1737.
    vedic cosmology
Vedic Cosmology is yet another ancient Vedic science which can be confirmed by modern scientific findings and this is acknowledged by well known scientists and authors, such as Carl Sagan and Count Maurice Maeterlinck, who recognized that the cosmology of the Vedas closely parallels modern scientific findings.
Carl Sagan stated, "Vedic Cosmology is the only one in which the time scales correspond to those of modern scientific cosmology."
French astronomer Jean-Claude Bailly corroborated the antiquity and accuracy of the Vedic astronomical measurements as "more ancient than those of the Greeks or Egyptians." And that, "the movements of the stars calculated 4,500 years ago, does not differ by a minute from the tables of today."
The ninety foot tall astronomical instrument known as Samrat Yantra, built by the learned King Suwai Jai Singh of Jaipur, measures time to within two seconds per day.
Author Dick Teresi says "Indian cosmologists, the first to estimate the age of the earth at more than 4 billion years. They came closest to modern ideas of atomism, quantum physics, and other current theories. India developed very early, enduring atomist theories of matter. Possibly Greek atomistic thought was influenced by India, via the Persian civilization."
    Flight
The ancient Indians themselves wrote entire flight manuals on the control of various types of Vimanas, of which there were basically four: the Shakuna Vimana, the Sundara Vimana, the Rukma Vimana and the Tripura Vimana.
The secret of constructing aeroplanes, which will not break, which cannot be cut, will not catch fire, and cannot be destroyed.
The secret of making planes motionless.
The secret of making planes invisible.
The secret of hearing conversations and other sounds in enemy planes.
The secret of receiving photographs of the interior of enemy planes.
The secret of ascertaining the direction of enemy planes approach.
The secret of making persons in enemy planes lose consciousness.
The secret of destroying enemy planes.
information about these allegedly mythical Vihmanas in the ancient records is that there are some matter-of-fact records, describing how to build one. In their way, the instructions are quite precise.
In the Sanskrit Samarangana Sutradhara, it is written: Strong and durable must the body of the Vihmana be made, like a great flying bird of light material. Inside one must put the mercury engine with its iron heating apparatus underneath. By means of the power latent in the mercury which sets the driving whirlwind in motion, a man sitting inside may travel a great distance in the sky. The movements of the Vimana are such that it can vertically ascend, vertically descend, move slanting forwards and backwards. With the help of the machines human beings can fly in the air and heavenly beings can come down to earth.
It is interesting to note, that the Nazis developed the first practical pulse-jet engines for their V-8 rocket "buzz bombs." Hitler and the Nazi staff were exceptionally interested in ancient India and Tibet and sent expeditions to both these places yearly, starting in the 30's, in order to gather esoteric evidence that they did so, and perhaps it was from these people that the Nazis gained some of their scientific information!
A vast number of statements and materials presented in the ancient Vedic literatures can be shown to agree with modern scientific findings and they also reveal a highly developed scientific content in these literatures. The great cultural wealth of this knowledge is highly relevant in the modern world.
Techniques used to show this agreement include:
    • Marine Archaeology of underwater sites (such as Dvaraka)
    • Satellite imagery of the Indus-Sarasvata River system,
    • Carbon and Thermoluminiscence Dating of archaeological artifacts
    • Scientific Verification of Scriptural statements
    • Linguistic analysis of scripts found on archaeological artifacts
    • A Study of cultural continuity in all these categories.
(sicintific verification of vedic knowledge by david osborn)
    Vedic Mathemetics
Voltaire, the famous French writer and philosopher) stated that "Pythagoras went to the Ganges to learn geometry." Abraham Seidenberg, author of the authoritative "History of Mathematics," credits the Sulba Sutras as inspiring all mathematics of the ancient world from Babylonia to Egypt to Greece.
As Voltaire & Seidenberg have stated, many highly significant mathematical concepts have come from the Vedic culture, such as:
The theorem bearing the name of the Greek mathematician Pythagorus is found in the Shatapatha Brahmana as well as the Sulba Sutra, the Indian mathematical treatise, written centuries before Pythagorus was born.
The Decimal system, based on powers of ten, where the remainder is carried over to the next column, first mentioned in the Taittiriya Samhita of the Black Yajurveda.
The Introduction of zero as both a numerical value and a place marker.
The Binary number system, essential for computers, was used in Vedic verse meters.
A hashing technique, similar to that used by modern search algorithms, such as Googles, was used in South Indian musicology. From the name of a raga one can determine the notes of the raga from this Kathapayadi system.
Ashoka (one of the kings) was also aware of devastating wars using such advanced vehicles and other "futuristic weapons" that had destroyed the ancient Indian "Rama Empire" several thousand years before. Only a few years ago, the Chinese discovered some sanskrit documents in Lhasa, Tibet and sent them to the University of Chandrigarh to be translated. Dr. Ruth Reyna of the University said recently that the documents contain directions for building interstellar spaceships! Their method of propulsion, she said, was "anti- gravitational" and was based upon a system analogous to that of "laghima," the unknown power of the ego existing in man's physiological makeup, "a centrifugal force strong enough to counteract all gravitational pull." According to Hindu Yogis, it is this "laghima" which enables a person to levitate.
The "Nine Unknown Men" wrote a total of nine books, presumably one each. Book number was "The Secrets of Gravitation!" This book, known to historians, but not actually seen by them dealt chiefly with "gravity control." It is presumably still around somewhere, kept in a secret library in India, Tibet or elsewhere (perhaps even in North America somewhere). One can certainly understand Ashoka's reasoning for wanting to keep such knowledge a secret, assuming it exists.
theres much more, do some more research if you want to go indeapth

Large amount of Art, Literature and Architecture floursihed. Science was supported (what you know as Damascus Steel upon which the Bessemer process developed was developed from Wootz steel made in India, etc) and freedom of religion was present (the Islamic invaders converted the ruling class and did some double standards but mostly left the people to their own devices, primarily acting as Overlords who got tribute regularly). We also didn't engage in murder of women and children (check the records of false rape allegations made against Indian Sepoys during the First war of Independance in 1854 and the retributions exacted : local men, women and children were bayoneted when cities were taken, there was also raping and pillaging involved. Reports exist from British Officers who served in Officer Capacity, just go and read upon the Archives). Most of all, the Hindu-Muslim conflict that was started as a policy of Divide and Conquer, the most glorious reminder for which we're paying in Blood.
During the Rule of the British Raj and Colonialism, we did get benefits like the Railway and such but the losses were greater : we got looted, cultural sites were destroyed, the native populations pride was systematically crushed, treated as third class citizens or serfs (actions during the various famines, the fact that Indian judges cannot prosecute British criminals no matter what crime they did, though the reverse was true, Dyer the murderer, lack of acknowledgement to the 2.5 million Indian Volunteers during WWII, etc) : so BASICALLY it was not good or bad. It was just another group that invaded and conquered for their benefits and we got away from them. Life as usual. So PLEASE STOP THIS MACUALAYAN FASCIST TALK.

British rule in India was based on the British control of the Indian Army which consisted of Indian soldiers but officered by the British whites. In 1857 the British learnt the rude lesson that any discontent in the army would spell the doom of British rule in India. So they took great care to see that the soldiers were well paid and had many privileges which gave them a higher status in Indian society. This tactic was so successful that they could use Indian troops to kill Indians with impunity. The British were masters of deception and manipulation and they exploited the simplicity and loyalty of the Indian soldier to the hilt. Not only were young Indian soldiers subjected to anal rape but were turned into sex slaves by the British officers who were notorious for their homosexuality. The Germans called it the English Vice. The soldiers were housed in barracks which were in remote areas called army Cantonements. This shielded and alienated the Indian soldier from his own countrymen. So great was the British concern about the army that they even removed a Viceroy when he clashed with his Commander -in-Chief.(The Lord Curzon and Lord Kitchener dispute) in the early 1900s. The army , the Kumaon Rifles , was used to massacare a peaceful political demonstration in Amritsar . Thousands were shot in cold blood by Indians on the orders of their white British officers. Why did the soldiers not kill their white British officers? Again during the British Partition of India when nearly 5 million Indians slaughtered fellow Indians in the name of religion , why did the Indians not slaughter 5 million white Britishers in India? if we had, there would have been no Partition and no recurring wars on the sub-continent which are Civil Wars not wars with foreign countries. And now there is a very real danger of a limited nuclear war which the BBC is encouraging daily by wide news coverage of the tensions over Kashmir. The British are laughing all the way to the bank after selling arms to both India and Pakistan. When will we ever learn to see through British fraud , trickery and deceptions?

Europe colonized America by genociding the Native Americans and then bringing in African slaves??? that is not colonization that is evil stupid primitive thinking. The Indian Prince `Buddha`colonized Asia, it still exists. All the teachers of all the major religions are from the Eastern Civilizations(Arabs, Israel, Persia, India) and India is related to all. The Europeans understood the power of Yeshiva`s (Jesus`) words and creating great civilizations but later manipulated for Power and Greed and there have been many, many internal wars within Europe, recently WW1,WW2 Millions, Millions have died. - Europe is not above Karma -it needs to have a good look at itself in the mirror -not the outside face but the inside heart-history shows it is dark.

I do not care even if you disagree with me, but founding fathers of US took a lot of inspiration from Hindostan, in fact they eroded all the possible causes of brits invasion on US of America. another they avoided all the mistakes brits did, Red Indian even today enjoys a special status. In my view founding fathers were good businessmen but were enraged by "monopoly of monarch" specially in trade (East india company). possibly why they had a special corner for india.

Would Allah still punish us for RIBAH/interest/usury even though the whole world is engulfed in it?
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Islam and Money
Written by Imran Nazar Hosein, Graduate of Graduate Institute of International Relations in Switzerland.
Allah will hold you to account for that Riba which you can avoid even if you had to flee to the mountains sides where rain falls and take with you some sheep and goats.
Imran Hosein - THE PROHIBITION of RIBA (Interest) [FULL VIDEO]
    th-cam.com/video/nKm3J3gJV8c/w-d-xo.html
This shaykh has deep understanding of the harm of RIBA. After listening to his lecture I understood why Allah SWT has declared war on people who deal with RIBA in society, because these people give power to control money to money landers/bankers who in turn put people in slavery and hardship and also can finance a war just by printing unlimited amount of paper money and kills those who oppose them. And the blood of those innocent people are also on the hands of those who give them RIBA/interest on loan money.
Those who are willingly cooperate with them for a small worldly gain will be with Abu Lahab and Abu Jahal in hellfire for ever because they also financed war against believers.
Allah SWT is not only very merciful but also stern punisher.

wingaard Colonialism is not out of the welfare for the colonial subjects but out of exploitation of resources to fill up their own pockets - The British did nothing to help the poor and oppressed in India, look at the Bengal famine.
It doesn't make sense to say the British gave India a centralised government because it wasn't a country before the British came but rather many kingdoms in one subcontinent which had their own laws and political systems similar to how what is now Germany once consisted of the kingdom of Prussia etc.

In the light of the above discussion, it is clear that British rule is responsible for the modernisation of the Indian civilization.

really, fact is the Famine had nothing to do with the british, that is a lie that is going all over india, it was caused by a heavy monsoon, a bight on the Rice and the Japanese occupation of Burma, which was a major importer of food to India. As for Churchill, he sent 350,000 tons of grain to India at a time when every ship was needed for the war effect. He also begged the Americans in a letter for more ships but was refused by Roosevelt who said that every ship was needed for the war. These are facts that can be checked . The idea that Churchill caused the famine is nothing but a lie that has spread all over India and is not believed by millions of Indians, maybe you should ask yourself how Britain, along with the United States and France helped save the lives of tens of millions of Indian lives in 1994.

The British came in as friends until India realized their evil ambitions, then one non-violent man Gandhi "Set the Sun" on the so called Empire. Without India British would not have had that power. The British history is only a drop in the bucket to India's 6000+ old history, The Europeans only ruled for 500 yrs on this planet. Roman Empire??? no one is speaking Italian in Egypt, it is Arabic. India was not poor but instead a very rich country. This video is very biased taken of the untouchables. The Taj had real diamonds, jewels for over 300 yrs. No one in India ever stole the jewels in the Taj, not until the British took all the jewels. It was the British that learned from India how to built their ships. India's golden age was during the Ashoka Empire when the Indian Prince `Buddha`colonized Asia -now that is AWESOME it still exists. India is related to all the religions. All the religious teachers are from the Eastern Civilizations(Arabs, Israel, Persia, India) which had nothing to do with the Europeans, Africans, Orientals. Yeshiva(Lord Shiva) was Jesus`real Eastern Civilizations name. Jesus was given to assimilate with the Greek deity Zeus. India has had many invaders, No conquers because all the invaders were primitive, they only knew violence(divide and invade)and were defeated. If the British had not been primitive thinkers and true friends, with a higher way of thinking for the betterment of mankind working with India, instead of against, Europe would have been a lot wiser today and a true Empire. Their stupidity of primitive thinking will be the gain of a true wiser friend. It was Gandhi that said we part as friends, that is a enlightened soul because he understood man`s primitive ways and slavery to their own governments.

The English were no match for Tipu Sultan, only treachery helped the British. You can email me at zalmecci@gmail.com. I would like to hear more from you.

those aggressive medieval rulers ruled India for five hundred years and for those five hundred years India was the richest country by a huge margin than rest of the world and british ruled for just 300 yrs and they left India very very poor. The concept of democracy, freedom and openness is an inherent part of indian culture for 1000s of yrs. The irony is British empire run by monarchs teaching India democracy.Ha Ha.
