I started last year and taught myself to spin but my spin is feet not off the ground and it was grinding into the ground I can reach about 28m last year in 2kg but now with this video just three days I got 39m thanks so much
Pretty cool ! I just found a discus in the back yard of the house I just bought, it's wood with a metal rim. I figure I'll take it to a local chrome shop to have the rim polished. Will I learn to throw it ? Probably not, I'm 53 years old... Still a pretty cool thing to find though.
I’m on my senior year in high school, my power throw is 140ft and I pretty much got it down, I’m having a lot of trouble spinning, I’m going to continue practicing and this vid helped a lot, do you think I would be able to master it in time to throw 150+ feet?
Thanks for the tips. I just started discus yesterday, so im very new. Im enjoying it a lot, but no one on my team, knows how to spin. We dont have a discus coach to help. Thanks a lot for the tips and ill for sure master this technique
I am going into 7th grade and I'm self-taught; my PR is 12.51 meters I've been throwing for almost a year now and am trying to learn the footwork for the spin
My teacher told me that she put me in this event. I have never done this sport and now i have to race with other players tomorrow. Thx u helped me alot
From my experience I've benefited from making that strike to the middle of a ring more of an actual sprint. Like the right knee should get up to like I'm in a sprint. My left leg spins but right when my foot is parallel to the boundary line in the back after that spin my right leg lunges forward fast to about an inch left of the center perpendicular to the right boundary line which lets me open up to release faster. We tend to reserve all the power in the back and on that turn but don't really use it and rely on the forces or a lot of beginners just trying to arm it far to launch it over the speed and power combined with the form.
I was a high school athlete threes years ago. Haven’t done track since. In a week I am going to a open and masters track championship as a open member for discuss. I was never able to do the throw spin. I really hope this video helps
As a thrower going to college and competing at college level this helps a lot. Don't want to go to their looking to dumb I've been throwing 7 years started in middle school, I wish I found this video sooner . I'm a self taught thrower thank you for this video hopefully I keep beating my PR .
Thanks for the message Olivia! It can be tough being self taught, but in the end, you get a very good grasp on how to throw! Best wishes for your throwing!!!
John Bowman 😊 thank you my heart dropped when I threw a disc and hit this man on the spinal cord he wasn't paying attention scared me to death thank you for the reply
John Bowman thankfully. The boy I hit he got up after a few minutes scared me to death and I graduate this month to go to college Not ready to Try the hammer or the javelin. I'll keep an eye for new post
my first year of track in 7th grade i joined track for the first time ever. Im not gonna lie espicially since it was my first year i wasnt really fast and stil isnt. Now i was just planning on running for track but it iturns out my specialty was in discus. My pr is 75'9 but in practice i throw around 80 i know this isnt alot but it managed to put 3rd in evergreen school ditrict.
Tow points you pointed out i like is staying on the balls the feet especially in the center with the right foot and turning it to the 180 degree position on landing, Should mention the head and eyes .up tracking the horiszion . but good !!!
Would it not be advantageous to have the right foot land with the heel facing more toward the sector than it is when landing with it perpendicular to the sector? It seems as if doing so would make it easier to get the block foot/leg down quicker. If such is not the case, can you explain why it is not? Thanks!
I have sports day tomorrow and I’m doing discuss and the record for my grade is 23.2m and my furtherest is 22.8m so I’m watching these videos to teach me
I'm a freshman and I tend to throw 95 with a power and 110 with a spinning, but I have a lot of trouble with my arms being in the correct positioning, and I also tend to lean hard to my left when I throw, what are some ways I could fix these issues?
Im a lefty and Im having trouble in Discus, I throw a 12 pound shot put 36 but I only throw a Disc at best 70-80, where my teamates throw 90's (even some newer members) any tips?
On starting the spin, I feel to much weight put on my left foot when starting to spin causing the right foot to lander further out and not in the middle which messes up my spin, any way I can fix that?
A major difference between shot and discus is the feel of the discus on the hand. When you first start throwing discus, its a good idea to spend a couple practices just on the release. You can do this by throwing "easy" throws trying to get the discus to fly flat with a lot of spin. Once you figure that out it makes the rest of discus technique easier.
I'm in 7th grade and my pr is 85 ft 5 inches I am trying to master the spin and throw 90 ft but my release isn't that good any tips of how to release better?
For a guy that's now of high school and college we didn't have track to they have meets for adults? I threw one year in highschool with no trainer I taught myself and places second in states just off strength
I’m broke and I needed to practice for my middle school track team bc I’m doing discus so I filled up an empty milk jug with a quart of water it is the same weight as 2.2 pounds
I'm 13 years old (14 next week) and I can throw around 60ft on 1k and I'm 5'0 ft tall in 8th grade // shortest one in Discus// and in best top 3 on throwing it in my school (girls) and I'm trying to release the disc higher and chest out, how can I improve on that?
Hii sir. I’m Shuaib. I’m from Malaysia. Can you give me a technical analysis? I have been throwing discus for 3 years but only the standing throw. I can’t improve a bit. I’m throwing the same no matter what I do. I don’t know what to do. I’m 5’8 and 70kg.
I really want 160 feet, my pr is 130 but my technique is horrible, I have a 500 squat, a 285 bench and a 560 deadlift, so I should definitely have the strength to hit 160 ft, but I just need the technique, which this video should definitely help with if I cam fully apply it

Great Vid :)
It's my first year and I'm in mod track and I throw about 40-50 so this was really helpful
This really helps when I was in 7th I threw 45 ish feet I throw 85 as a 8th grader not to much but a huge improvement
I started this year, I didn’t think I would do very good but I got my PR on my last throw of the season, I got 31 meters/101 6 feet
I am going into 7th grade and I'm self-taught; my PR is 12.51 meters
I've been throwing for almost a year now and am trying to learn the footwork for the spin
very good explanation and illustration of this critical phase of the technique.

Release off your index finger and throw the disc from a low point and use your free hand to "pull" down for power
im in grade 8 ive been doing discus for 2 days and can throw 23 meters is that good?

There is not "one right diet plan" for discus throwers. But, you need to eat food that nourishes your body and gives you energy. That's all you need 👍
