Repetition in a small space helps with creating a cohesive look. Much more pleasing to the eye in my opinion. I also appreciate that everyone has their own taste. You did a fantastic job. Love it.

I have a small garden..,..similar size, over looked, that's suburbia for you! Not complaining as many don't even have the size space that i have. I'm grateful and blessed. another great episode .. My back garden is literally exactly to this scale. It gets sun for 6 hours a day, but awful London clay conditions .. I dug the entire garden up by hand and have spent a year bedding down much better soil / compost .... Finally got rid of x2 - 30 foot conifers which have been taking all the water from the garden with their 20 metre roots all the way to the house :( ........ 2nd year gardener and all I do is watch TH-cam every night for ideas, tips and a reet good education. Thank you Ninja
Wow Rob. That’s dedication and I take my mohawk off to you. It will pay dividends. You’re doing everything the right way which is a lot of hard work. My top tip now is to get the pencil and paper out before jumping into any design. There’s lots of ‘garden designs’ online that look nice but are totally unusable in real life. Paths that are too narrow. Skinny flower beds. Plants that simply wouldn’t grow in those conditions. Ie you need to map out path widths and do some research for suitable plants etc. Or hire a garden designer who has spent years developing all this knowledge!! 😜 Do this on paper first to scale (you sound like the type of technical chap that would be great at this task!!) Then you can make all your mistakes on paper. Sounds like an exciting project. Good luck and happy gardening! Lee
😂 I’ve been known to grace Yorkshire with my presence every now and then!!! You’re right that clay can be a real benefit for hungry plants especially roses!! 🌹🥷🌿🤘
I love your designs. Thank you for sharing and for the tips you provide. One thing that I particularly like is when you put pictures of the plant when is mature, on the side of the screen, when you talk about a plant, at the same time that you are showing us the actual plant. That way, we don't have to imagine too much what it will look like. As when they are put down, they don't always look as they will in the future. Have you thought of having a video to show us what plants work well with what others? In terms of sun, soil, scent, colour and pattern? Also, I struggle with the all year round interest. I would like colour all year round... Thanks again

Really lovely...finally a proper garden design fed up of seeing slab and astroturf labelled 'garden design '. I would have painted the shed dark to knock it back and have some climbers up the side of the shed and the dodgy fence panels.

Looks great. With hindsight, do you think the shed could have been moved towards the house, or made smaller for what's needed? Even for a garden that small, I can imagine you're talking between 5 and 10 hours just for the design.
Hi Uneasy. I used Photinia half standards. They’re grafted so won’t grow much bigger. Will only need a mild prune once or twice a year. Hope that helps! Happy Gardening.

Just subscribed! Have a small garden too and want to incorporate trees for privacy but I've been having a hard time finding trees small enough. What are the names of the trees you used here?
I meant that in the nicest way possible. Your videos have been really helpful. Could you recommend any trees/shrubs for privacy in a small (new build garden) really struggling? Looked at Royal burgundy and October glory but didn’t seem the right fit. Thanks, Matt
Three quarter standards are usually a good choice with a lollipop head. They get you maximum coverage without taking over so I’d look at maybe an evergreen version of those. Failing that fastigiate versions of apple trees or birches with really upright aspects can be useful. Ones that don’t spread width ways too much. It’s all about breaking up the views. Look for a tree that has a few seasons interest whether leaf, fruit or peeling bark in the autumn for example. 😀

Hi East Coast. The owners had just recieved a puppy who was a bit of a tear away so they decided to wait to put the path in once they had trained him in case the turf needs reseeding! The life of gardens and puppies! 🤣🥷🌿

I have clay soil which isn't the easiest but lots of plants do love it e.g.roses, dahlias.

I too love a circular lawn. Especially in a small back garden helps give the illusion of never ending borders if well proportioned.
