mate you need to do these 'shoutouts' to sponsors at the beginning of the video. I might be the only one, but when you switch to talking about something completely unrelated to the car, I find myself just totally switching off by opening another window. Soon enough I'm totally distracted, and don't end up coming back to the video.

I absolutely loved that car and it broke my heart when I had to sell it. Drove that beast through amazing sunny days and through winter blizzards. It never let me down! The 50-50 weight distribution really helped during winter but never the less I had salt bags in the trunk and winter tires. The only thing I ever modified was the stereo. Took it out and fitted an aux kit to the stock system. I miss that car dearly…..I guess it’s true, you never forget your first!

When I got married a couple of years ago, I could not bring myself to hire a wedding car. I therefore purchased a 1996 Oxford Green E38 735i for £1200. and sold it for a profit after the wedding. I fully agree that era of BMW' is the best, by far, and Oxford Green is the best colour. I also had an E39 530i manual a few years ago and concur that the 3.0 engine is stunning. I don’t think we need a reason. It’s ok to buy what you love and enjoy it for what it is. Even if that means just looking at it and admiring the design. Cars stir our emotions and that’s what makes us human. Anything to make us feel good these days is worth having in my world. Even better if it’s got 4 wheels and an engine. Congratulations, superb car and gorgeous colour combination. An increasingly rare beauty.

Great vid. I completely understand. I love car design but I neither own a car nor have to a licence. & after buying car mags as a teen (100s) & now slavishly watching all the latest car videos on TH-cam- I completely get the idea of just looking & enjoying the pure design of certain cars from a certain period. That era of 3 series is probably my favourite BMW. Although the new X1 looks- how do you say- Quality lol. I left school when the Lexus LS & MX-5 & BMW X5 first came out. They were heady days. People forget how revolutionary the X5 was in the day- not only in execution but also market acceptance that translated into not only big sales but also cash cows that enabled companies to not only survive but also thrive. Look at Porsche's balance sheet because they (quite rightly) made an SUV to pay for everything else.
It would interesting to see a roll call of not only all the cars you have owned, but also the buy & sell figure stories to fill in the random mentioning of various cars in all of yr vlogs. Have you done a story on a MX-5? If not please do. I enjoy yr work immensely. Please keep it up.

E46 coupe’s are great looking cars and they didn’t kill its good looks with the cabriolet, which in itself is often quite an achievement.
We had a 330i Touring back in the day (and a pre-facelift 318i coupe when almost new); the earlier 318i had better steering feel, but the straight-six had a much better soundtrack, if it wasn’t as quick as I thought it was going to be.
£3.5k is a bargain however - and probably better for being an auto 👍

I know exactly what you mean, about 10 years ago I used to have a couple of capris- a 1.6l and a 2.8i. Didn’t really like driving them, but loved owning them. Couldn’t put my finger on why, but I think you’ve described it perfectly.
Wish I’d kept them, I sold just before prices started to go up… nevermind

My last P38 was in that colour scheme as is one of my classic RRs but the current P38 is black with black and it just does not pop the same way even though the interior and exterior are in superb condition.

Well done, bloody nice cars these, but if you wanted a creak/rattle free one, you have to get the coupe (I had a 2003 325Ci that I sold about a year ago, and it was a great drivers car, and rattle free). You're right about not "needing one", I didn't either, but it was a nice thing to drive for the couple of years I had it (as a second car, daily was a boring SUV). And the hangar style shed - I'm totally with you on that, I also seriously considered renting a warehouse not long back (as my fleet is now up to 5, and only one can fit in the garage). I'm also with you on the 90's and early 2000's being (High?)"Peak Car", mine are from 1993 through to 2009. Cheers!

What a beautiful car, there's nothing wrong with having a modern classic car, as you said Matt, they come from simpler times, no complicated electronics etc, I would keep the cassette player though as I have loads of cassettes and nothing to play them on now lol, I really like your idea of setting up a warehouse then buying and storing classic cars that you love, even if you didn't drive them, a kind of a museum for classic cars that one day in my opinion will cease to exist and when that happens, you could charge people to have a look around at the cars similar to the ones that they once owned or wanted but never had to chance to buy and just soak up the ambience as it were, I don't think it's weird to want to do something like this, we are all different and that's what makes us who we are.

  • @ollyflight

Love it. Currently trying to find one myself. Running a 19 year old vw t4 and never a day without something sounding different or a new squeak or rattle. But I’m not wired up right too, love older cars. They just have more character and soul. Like a puppy who has peed on the floor. You are angry but just look at it and all is forgiven!

  • @andrewreddy7063

I agree with everything you said. I sold a great example of the BMW 330Ci 2 years ago for £500 with no rust , no scratches,a new reverse gear, new water pump and belt, alternator, wheel bearings etc. . Do I regret it no. It was lovely to look at and drive with the roof down. Being 20 years old I started to get electrical issues. The windscreen fan heater stopped working on a cold winter night making driving home with a missed up wind screen very dangerous. The roof retraction motor then gave up the ghost so the cost of repair v resale value equation came into play. I now have a TTS coupe as a replacement, its faster and has no rattles or creaks.

Not weird, I also love cars late 90s and early 2000s, particularly certain BMWs, Alfas, Hondas, Volvos and Porsches. I’ve had a 2003 330d sport saloon, 2001 Honda S2000, 1999 Z3 and currently own a 2000 Porsche 996 Carrera 4. I too appreciate the simplicity and engagement of the older cars compared with modern stuff, yet they’re not so old that they can’t keep up with modern traffic. I also love cleaning and looking my 996. Lots of people hate the headlights and the first water cooled 911 but I’m a massive fan. Great video Mat, keep up the good work.

I have a 1991 E30 318i convertible, and a VW Arteon 2.0 Tsi 280ps. Going from one to another is a culture shock. The E30 (Meridian red, BBS wheels and v pretty) is such a handful to drive. Ludicrously low geared steering (after the progressive system on the VW), enormous steering wheel, pedals offset and a bar above which traps my toes on the clutch every time. I have to remember to drive tippy toe. That said, I do love it and so do many others! It has the original fitted carphone (brick shaped), and I dream I'm on Howards Way saying "we've won the contract" into it.
