This is in my opinion one of the best their live performances...incredible power and energy!!!!
and 1990 paris only drawback was jean michel byron.
Your opinion SUCKS. Did you hear the vocals on Rosanna?!
Jean Michel Byron was a good singer for the planet earth tour granted but the band hated him, too diva like and just did not fit the band. it was just a shame that joseph Williams had to leave.
it is for a band thats stoned off their heads.
MusicWorks17 As much as I like Toto, I must respectfully disagree. In many places they were not tight like they usually are, and the vocals were really off on several songs. Their live performance in 1978 right here on YT was 100 times better where they were incredibly tight and were all in tune vocally. Watch it and you will see that this concert was likely one of their worst in my opinion.
the 3 porcaro's together on stage was a match made in heaven
Live at Budokanですね。

My highschool mate went to the 1982 Toto concert in Tokyo! How lucky he was...
The best moment of that band........
Thanks for uploading this video..I am an original Toto fan from the 70's and haven't seen this before, thanks Again!!!
Amazing solo Luke
Rossana!
Totally amazing!
Toto; best rock band in the world!!
Amazing live concert! Thanks for sharing! Really underrated band that CAN rock! Amazing musicians (Jeff P and Lukather - two of the all-time greats, respectively). Awesome!
It doesn't get much better than this......thanks!
never mind ive got the whole budokan show on DVD.
It was a great concert. I manage to see it in person ( was station at Naval Base in Yakosuka) Next day we ship out for a month .
This performance was AMAZING!!!, I like it.
Very nice

This is the most coked out concert ever... and I love it
Hahaha! That was awesome! At 13:55 they break into the Royal Scam vamp from the Steely Dan song!
Tuning issues aside, you just don't see this kind of gig anymore! What monsters they were live, just insane and awesome!
+shane walsh they still are no longer insane but still awesome live.
About 35:54 Lukather starts singing Rosanna. I have no idea what he said. He's supposed to say "All I wanna do when I wake up in the morning is see your eyes" He sounded like he was mumbling, you can see Porcaro in the back chuckling... These guys are clearly wasted. Did you see the sweat on Bobby? INSANE!!!
agreed indeed
i know what he said 'all i wanna do in the middle when wake up in the morning is hold you tight'
he was still mumbling it friend.
michael jagger Nope. He mixed the first verse with the second!!
SenioreGhost he was stoned! haha
Bobby kimball, the voice!
i think one of the only times he was good live.
+michael jagger Check it out the live on 2-2-1979
Toto without the brothers is no Toto
I had no idea Mike Porcaro died this year? 2015. :( God bless. RIP.
+Jesus Saves Oh yeah....."Mikey" as they called him died from that awful ALS!
I'm sure he's in God's memory.
Wow. I got a contact high just watching this.
david paich has a really deep voice.
jeff pocaro the great drummer
Such a smooth groove.
41:50 lmao... killing me
white powder did crazy shit to bands playing live it made them wild. its steve porcaro that was the most stoned out the lot. he's nuts. the truth is some bands in the 80's were stoned when playing live it was all the rage back then.even some audiences were stoned. alot of 80's live shows elton john did he was stoned as fuck. especially 1982-1986
michael jagger Eh, you know... I don't doubt there was yayo involved here, but they were young here, it was the flashy 80's and Steve P was always a freak. In a good way. It's a high-energy show and they made it exciting.
bootling ive seen toto this year they have still got the energy and passion that they had in the 80's and yes steve p can still bust out those moves lol.
Bobby and Steve in Rosanna, most sweating human beings ever haha, or at least at the podium with Robert Hays in the Airplane movie!!
Ironic because Steve Lukather used to be Brothers in law with Robert Hays!
if steve lukather's hair was black he would look like brian may. he knows every guitarist in the music industry.
Omg Bobby was on fire there
A lot of "WTF" things here:
- I think its the IV tour. So its the first tour Mike is on, after he replaced Hungate.
RIP Mike
- Bobby playing keyboard. Actuly he is a great piano player. But i´ve never seen him play KB in toto before or later. (During Paich solo in GP)
- Paich singing high notes
- Bobby was already struckling with Roseanna at that time. Wonder how many take they used in the studio. A sort of cruel to let him sing these high notes, knowing that they would be touring, and at stage theres no re-take.
- Jaws from James bond on sax / backgroundsing ;-). Kidding. Anybody know he is?
Henrik Larsen ive seen Bobby play the keyboard live with toto and solo too.things did get better as this tour went on ive got a show from 14th sept 1982 near the end of the ToTo IV tour vocally still bad but still musically great singing the Africa chorus is hard and rosanna too.. the show ive got was the one of the last times bobby sang with toto live until he came back in 1998.
I think it's John Smith.
Coko live in Japan.
"Coko" ROFL
This is essentially what bad coke does to you...
Eli you heard to Royalty scam. Jeff loved those same guys you can tell that had to be his call
11
That '59 Les Paul couldn't be in more capable hands.
Ah, the early 1980s. When a band could be butt ugly and still be popular.
that girl at 30.35 in the middle is pretty
What a band. On some serious drugs during that concert a few of them. Lukather off his face 😅😅
The brothers Porcaro
Mike singing ;)
Lukather is stoned as fuck!
its steve porcaro thats off his head.
And still awesome, the whole band is stoned yet they still kick ass, it's one of the best concerts they ever did
Melanie Lange my favourite concerts toto did was the one at the agora theater in 1979 somewhere in america and the 1990 show live in paris. this one isnt bad it was all the rage in the 80's to be stoned on stage. not many bands peformed live being sober.
michael jagger I've seen Toto multiple times later on (too young for the 80's) but i think Budokan is amazing, especially with them being completely stoned and being live with no overdubs,, just shows what amazing talents they are. As a prime live example, i've seen them in Munich 2002 with special guests Ian Anderson and Al DiMeola and that was was just fucking amazing, Especially the interaction between Steve Lukather and Ian Anderson. It's a shame they filmed that Holland concert and not this one in Munich, it was overall a whole lot better. Still, Live in Amsterdam is pretty good (way better than FiB Live DVD with all the tape singing and Overdubs)
toto are still good to this day. on here bobby actually sung fully live and did quite a good job on africa. they have never been bad live. only the finals years 2006/2007 when bobby kimball started using autotune and playback.evident on the chorus in africa. he was killing his throat too by trying to reach the highest notes painful to my ears. only joseph williams was his true successor
i wanna try japanese coke too
+Bandulf McLennon i wanna try coke altogether if makes you play like this. their energy was off the scale
the booger sugar tour
banda sho de bola
I can't figure Toto out....great studio musicians, live...not so much. I have never seen a live performance that wasn't produced or auto tuned that I thought was good. They're just not very good live.
noe word....Coke...
Lukather must have just come from the dentist with a numb mouth. He definitely got the mumblies. :)
Bobby sounds out of tune all through the show.
bobby kinda screechy at points
coke.......
Killer
Horrible live performance.....on cd...very good.
Great muisicians, but they can't sing even back in 1982.....Mike Masse does it way better in 2008 live with Jeff Hall. Bobby Kimball....wtf.....I could sing it better than that.
smokindave74 I think the live set took a toll on them. Africa is ridiculously hard to sing.
+19boser this is the tour that wrecked bobby's voice sadly but a memorable tour though. africa is tough to sing.
+smokindave74 they can sing but they were having too much fun with the drugs back then lol
this is one of the most awful performances by Toto i have ever seen.
but its still great though.
awful makes it not great in my book.
Cpl27photo musically great. vocally not the best ive heard. but its worth watching because its a memorable performance from toto. i think it was only paich, jeff and mike that weren't drunk or stoned. steve porcaro cracks me up on africa. he's always been like that. he still dances when he plays now.
***** steve p has always knows how to have a good time ive watched him on several shows and he's a great dancer lol he really is a genius on the synths. just like paich on the keyboards. mike and jeff would so proud of steve p for rejoining toto and keeping the porcaro memory alive
I hate to admit it, however, the vocal performances are really bad. As a working musician though, at this time, they did not have inner ear systems and monitors were almost non-existent. If you are a working musician you will know, everyone has an off night.
Wow. This is pretty awful stuff from some very talented people. Just goes to show that everyone has off nights ...
its still great though. toto can play at their worst and still be worth watching.
