    I wish more cops would pull people over for doing this. Traffic flows so much better when people pass in the left lane and then return to the right lane.

    This might just be my favorite officer ever. I'm so glad some one enforces this law. Can't tell you how many people through I80 roll 60mph in the left lane. I understand less experienced drivers feel a need to spread out because it feels safer, but if you're still struggling with proper traffic flow guidelines, maybe you should re-think entering a highway on ramp.

    2010 I was traveling 83mph or 82 with cruise set while listening to my music.
    All of sudden my radar detector was screaming laser ,which I bought from escort radar company for $400 at the time. The state police that used laser on me. I slowed down from running 83mph to the speed limits right in front of him where i was able to see him clearly putting his laser gun down and starring at it like what the f$$$😂😂
    No tickets!! He just set there like confused.
    But they’re 3 others getting tickets ahead except me because I had that scrambler sitting in my windshield alone with my radar detector sitting on dashboard.
    That was the older generation of technology back then what I use today.....see the difference

    It's funny, I see everyone griping in the comments about the reason they're getting pulled over (not passing in the passing lane), and all I can think is, "Man, wish FloridaHP policed highways that well." All they do here is pull over speeders, meanwhile, the left lane is plugged full of self absorbed minivan moms and PT Cruisers and people are passing in merge and turnoff lanes just to get around them. To me, this is actually a pretty good use of tax dollars, even if it is out in the middle of nowhere. It just makes sense to keep the faster traffic furthest away from those getting on and off the highway.

    • @FlyBoyBigBlue
      @FlyBoyBigBlue 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmm, I've taken Intro to Econ, Micro, and Macro, but I guess the page about minivans that plug up the passing lane bringing in "much of the money" was torn out. Who cares what they bring in, you could be Bill Gates and I'd still hope you could understand basic highway common sense.

    • @minibraman
      @minibraman 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      FlyBoyBigBlue I really wish they did this around NC. Some people have no idea how to use multiple highway lanes around here. I've seen some 5 under in the left hand lane and I've seen passing in the right hand lane while the left is wide open so yea, no idea from some people around here. It'd be a really really easy tax generator around here, of course I also see at least a couple people without their lights on every time it rains so who knows how well it'd really be enforced.

    I love how the Officer floors it every time he gets back on the road and you hear the vehicles engine screaming. but if i did that i would get in trouble by the law, and i also love how he's going 10-15 over the limit and passing people on the right just to catch up to someone that he might think will break the law.. I would also get in trouble by the law if i was passing people doing 10-15 over the limit.

    I for one am glad this officer is doing this. Regardless if the vehicle is impeding traffic or not, traveling in the left most lane without passing is illegal in many states and just bad driving etiquette in general.
    The same people that travel in the left lane when it's clear are often the same ones that are oblivious and stay in the left lane when traffic gets heavier.

    Its funny because I was just pulled over the other day for going 88 in a 70 when my cruise control was set at 70. My wife was in the car with me and we both looked at the speedometer when he flipped his lights, it was 70 exactly. He also told me he was clocking me off a state road when I was on the interstate traveling the opposite direction. When I asked him a second time where he was he told me he was south bound on the interstate, so which was it? I recorded the conversation and I am heading to court about it. Their is no need to lie about someone speeding so you can have someone pay a few hundred dollars, the guy in the video was getting off on it, is their not more pressing issues to attend to? No way did he clock me going that fast, he also said he used the heads up clock which I have never even heard of but whatever. I am going to court,

    I wish they'd stop left lane hogs or "hammer lane hero's" as I call them in Tennessee! They just ride for miles and get a long line backed up behind them, everyone in the left lane with plenty of real estate in the right lane available. This leads to people passing on the right. People need to read their drivers handbook.

    Interesting... In Wisconsin all signs on the highway state clearly - "Slower traffic keep right". No signs posted stating that the left lane is for passing only. Apparently WI doesn't enforce this rule. I wouldn't want to think about the traffic jams on the freeways/highways here if people weren't allowed to use the left lane as a typical lane, especially during rush hour traffic and on 2 lane highways! Shit... ever get caught in Chicago during rush hour? Takes more than an hour to get through down town Chicago even before rush hour, and they utilize all 3 - 4 lanes traveling in one directing as well! Rush hour in Chicago takes 2 - 5 hours depending on how far you are traveling! Would easily double the drive times there if they started enforcing the "left lane for passing only" rule! According to my research, this rule served as more of a suggestion than a rule in the past, but some states are changing/enforcing this rule for the sole purpose of generating revenue. I knew someone who got a ticket for traveling too slow in the right lane in WI once, but never heard of a ticket for "traveling/ hanging out" in the far left lane... of course most WI residents are pretty courteous when on the highway and move over to allow faster drivers pass them in what our cops even call the "fast lane". How do I know thats what they call it?... I know a lot of cops through family/friends.

    Enforcing left lane blockers is one of the few things I DEFEND cops doing. This is a serious problem in Georgia: people who think they're supposed to park their stupid asses in the left lane and block faster traffic from passing. I really wonder if this would be as big of a problem if we had more realistic speed limits on our highways.

    Keep right except to pass is a completely ridiculous law. We have speed limits in the U.S. so as long as you're obeying the limit, driving in the left lane should never be a problem. In fact, using the left lane as a so called "fast" lane, or "express" lane makes much more sense, leaving the right lane for those who are exiting the freeway soon, and to keep the right lane less congested for those who are entering the freeway. From a safety standpoint this is the better way to use the left lane.

    I'm all for protecting and serving, but whats happening today in this state of being policed has gotten out of hand. Please tell me why we need cops at every single on-ramp in the morning on 85 South and north bound in the afternoons. Why we need to pay for a toll lane our tax paying dollars have already paid for. Why people (like in this video) are getting pulled over and ticketed for something like riding in the fast lane when no one is around them in non traffic like conditions to warrant such harassment. What happened to days of warnings and friendly police interactions. (they're few and far between) Now we're all treated like felons and criminals for trying to go to work to provide for our family, instead of sitting on our ass waiting for a government check to come in. We go to work to provide for ourselves and family, only to be taxed to death to make up for the lazy drug addicts who'd rather get high and sit at home collecting unemployment or disability when half the people on assistance know very good and well they could do some form of work. Yet we pay your salaries to protect and serve, and in return we mostly get harassed on the way to and from work. Please someone tell me what the difference between the 80's, 90's and now are. The government back then lived under a statue of ethical code and had a budget they stood by. Today's local and federal Government refuse to believe they should have to live by a budget. While the American family lives under a budget and strives to get by, our government gets more raises, tax breaks, vacations and benefits. All because they can penalize the average American. I believe in biding by the law within a certain reasonable amount. That reasonable amount being the law breaches my very welfare and liberty. It is wrong to kill, steal, rape and create mayhem and abuse others. Yet our very own government are, thieves themselves! If we did what they did, we'd be imprisoned and punished with stiff penalties. Our government was built to protect our liberties and freedoms, not to limit them! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we should be free to go willy nilly and break basic fundamental laws. Our founding fathers would roll over in their graves if they knew what was happening in today's society. If they knew how the current government was acting. It's time to wake up America! If you're a cop, it's time you take a side. Because there will come a day, however soon or far away, when the average American has had enough of being bullied by it's government and police and fight back. And no I don't mean Ferguson or the likes. Michael Brown was a thug who got what was coming to him. And all those who protest are ignorant to the facts. That's not what I'm talking about though. What I am talking about is, decide if you're truly on the right side of the law. If you are, you have my utmost respect. If you know good and well the people you're pulling over did little to nothing to deserve a fine and you still do it because it's expected of you by your police chief and or supervisor, then you have a moral obligation to stand up against it. Or drink the kool-aid and bullshit you're being fed. I promise there will come a day where you will have to make a stand on which side of the law you'll be on. The law that makes up it's own rules and laws based on what serves them best. Or the law of liberty, freedoms and justice and is sick and tired of being trampled on. There's way more of us who stand by the law of liberty, then there are those of you who rule under a corrupt system. Time to pick a side and make a stand.

I can see how there are many, if not most of people ticketed for this law from other states. I would have gotten one myself if I had to be driving through this state. And for those who wonder, no I don't try and get out of a ticket by flashing my badge. If I'm breaking the law, I'm not better than anyone else.

      I'm a KY State Trooper & the left-lane law does in fact exist. It's active in 7 states last time I checked -- KY being one of them. Hence the "keep right except to pass" signs every other mile. It's a fast lane for passing and passing only. Emergency personnel are the ones authorized to use the left lane. This guy who's complaining has clearly never done the job. It's more than just simple violations. The Government is crooked and they might only care about money, but us *good* Law Enforcement Officers actually care about people. Of every 20 people I stop, I *might* issue 3 citations. I mostly give verbal warnings and safety advice. Not every stop is worthy of a ticket. We all have our magic number. Mine is 15. I don't stop unless they're doing 15mph or more over the limit -- and even then I might not cite them.

      I don't cite people who are only driving in the left lane and that's it. I'll either stop them and make them aware of the law and tell them to keep right except to pass, or I just light them up, move them over, cut the lights and drive on. They get it.

    This is incorrect actually. Many of these drivers have no one trying to over take them. The law simply states that they must move right if they are being approached by faster traffic. A few move over as soon as the officer starts approaching them which is the legal thing to do so I'm not sure why he's still stopping them

      +Kartracer6 Come on ! You can't be serious. The left lane is for FASTER traffic, when some "road hog" rides along in the left lane 10 MPH under the speed limit it's illegal and sometimes causes serious accidents. That's why the Trooper stopped them ( a ways back he saw the road hog just cruising along, too SLOWLY, he followed them for a while hoping they'd figure it out, but the idiot didn't and got stopped, as he should have been !). Trooper just doing his job is all, don't blame him.

      "once such person knows or should reasonably know that he is being overtaken in such lane from the rear by a motor vehicle traveling at a higher rate of speed, except when such motor vehicle is preparing for a left turn."
      Some states make this law more obvious then others. (d) Upon an Interstate highway or fully access controlled freeway, a vehicle may not be driven in the left lane, except when overtaking and passing another vehicle.
      (e) Subsection (d) of this Section does not apply:
      (1) when no other vehicle is directly behind the vehicle in the left lane;

    Ride a motorcycle only in the right lane and you will get evaporated as the traffic enters the highway. A nice Officer in Ohio recently wrote me a ticket for having to speed up to go around the slow driver in the right lane who was not doing the speed limit. They can write you up for anything they want. When you live 4 states away, you get the obligatory "sir, you have the right to appear in court" answer to any logic you try to use. These men and women widely should be treated with respect.

Also, ignorance of the law is no excuse, if anything police should be pulling people over for this more often. Nothing is more frustrating than a person going 5 under in the left lane.

    No, I'm not a cop. Also, you're not supposed to drive in the left lane unless you are passing. This means just cruising there, because the left lane is supposed to be the passing lane (in case you didn't know) and you're holding up traffic if you just plant your car there.

  • @iamthenews
    @iamthenews 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, in 1999 I was robbed at gunpoint during the overnight shift at Kinko's. It took 47 minutes for the 1st cop to get there after an ARMED ROBBERY!!! I lived 1.7 miles from the store. After my statement was taken, and had to drive that very short distance home, I observed not one, not two, but three separate traffic stops. In less than a two mile stretch. Yet it takes 47 minutes to get a cop to show up for an armed robbery. Priority is obviously in generating revenue, not helping victims.

    In the states, the left lane is used for passing only. If you're crusing along, you should be in the right lane. It's an old law that nobody really follows anymore. And it gets damn irritating when someone is going 60mph in the passing lane. I have driven in Manitoba. Canadian roads need lots of work! And their speed limits are terribly slow!

  • @oldfool01
    @oldfool01 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with your take Tony. The letter of the law is for lawyers to argue over. Just use a little common sense. Someone who is obviously impeding the flow of traffic is one thing but somebody who is courteously allowing others to merge onto the roadway from a ramp, etc., is another. Wish we had more cops with your common sense.

How much wear and tear did he put on his vehicle? How many REAL criminals drove past him while he was playing games collecting revenues for the state?

  • @buckeyz1
    @buckeyz1 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    And I agree, slower traffic keep right. You won't see me limping along in the left lane, but leave the people who aren't slow alone (unless they're murdering the speed limit, lol) In any case, it was probably the end of the month and our buddy was showing off his pull-over prowess to meet quota.
    Decimated- I'm in college, and maybe one day you'll require my services. Thanks for the tip anyway. I was only pointing out that there's more important things than left lane laws in Georgia.

  • @sociopathicregret

    And a few people do, but I was saying before that most people who drive irresponsibly as fast as their car can go in inappropriate conditions commit other traffic infractions anyway. They wouldn't have to be caught because of the speed limits; remember that I said that the vast majority of those who drive recklessly will do so anyway and commit other citable offenses like improper lane changes, following too closely, reckless driving, etc.

    People also don't realize that when it comes to ticketing, you don't score a lot of popularity points with your fellow officers if you're out there giving as many tickets to people as you can, because it makes other officers look bad when Johnny officer comes along and decides to go for the gold.
    I look at the whole "Well maybe you should be catching real criminals" like this: If people drove the way they're supposed to, maybe cops would have more time to "go after the real criminals".

    I'd say the only excuse for speeding you need is that you feel safe and comfortable. But going with the flow of traffic or passing also is an excuse because passing more quickly is safer and helps traffic flow. Going slower than traffic is probably more dangerous than going faster because people tailgate constantly and are at risk of causing pile ups

  • @drahon45

    That is why I do not drive any vehicles unprotected period ..... it just doesn’t work well for me driving naked meaning unprotected against police out there.
    What good is speeding if your running naked
    🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️
    Every time I rent a vehicle from anywhere I always install my gadgets before hitting the roads.
    I am very observing and knowledgeable of police use aircraft more to monitor speeds and not so much worried about what police are using on ground.
    Radar detectors may help some, but believe me there’s nothing like having full protection on front of my vehicles and rears which there’s a device sitting on back of my vehicle.
    The device forms an invisible bubble about half of a ⭕️ wide, which then makes your vehicle invisible to police which ever way the scrambler is pointing. But I use a scrambler mounted on the rears of my vehicle as well which means your invisible also.
    Thank You Rocky Mountain Radar 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

    First guy wasn't impeding traffic and actually passed a slow driver in the right lane. Hmm. Second guy, no traffic, gets into right lane, then a SUV drives by (and probably stays) in the SACRED LEFT LANE. Nice. Third guy- passes a truck that's right in front of him and goes after the car in front of the first truck and ignores the car and semi in front of it- all in the left lane. Let's forget about the vehicle slowing everyone down. Fourth guy, once again, no traffic except further up the road.

    In some (especially those marked) if not all areas, the left most lane is only used for passing, it's there in order to prevent slow moving cars from impeding traffic. Sometimes cops use small infractions like this in order to check people for warrants, or possible DUI, or DWI. And if you're all clear, you'll just end up with a warning, and a little waste of your time.
