    Here's what I do to switch back and from 2wd to 4wd. It seems the front and back drivetrains have tension on each other...... especially going from 4wd to 2wd. I use the loader bucket to lift the front wheels slightly off of the ground removing all binding or tension. Then it shifts smoothly and very easily back and forth between 2wd and 4wd. I have a 5 series but suspect you may have the same issue with your 4 series. Hope that helps......Dan

      That's an awesome tip! Made a huge difference on my 3049R when shifting in/out of 4wd.... it was a "why didn't I think of that" moment !

      Don't buy a 4r i work with one every time it Snow and it suck. My boss have 7 of these always on the road and 2 spare one and there is at least 1 that break every time we pass and is tractor are not old these is one spare that a 2018, one brand new and the rest are 2019. One have the light on the grill that are not working. A other one is the flasher and mine have a radio that doesn't work. And all of these have the transmission cable that need To be tited too often but for that maybe it because that some Guy that work there should drive a tractor. Between the 2019 are around 305 hours

      My 4320 has been perfect for 9 years and went to upgrade, and was shocked at the new pricing. I will no longer even consider a john deere, the pricing is completely out of control. At least my cab and engine were at least USA made but that is no longer true for the new ones.

    I do snow removal and have the same exact tractor. Same thing for me, the 4wd is sometime impossible to disengage and i have to lift the front end of the tractor off the ground with the loader to disengage it. Other than that and the fact that i cant fit my lunch box inside the cab because its too small its great machine.

      Easy way to disconnect from fourwheel drive is to be moving when you do it. When you are moving it takes the pressure off the lever

    can get the 3rd loader function added by John Deere dealers. They pop off that little piece of plastic on the inside of the joystick and put a piece with the buttons there to operate with your thumb, and put the 2 more hydraulic connectors to where the other 4 for the loader are without taking up a rear scv slot. for 2018 at least im pretty sure the open station version the battery is in front of the radiator inside the nose screen area, the side panels for the hood come off pretty easily, and i think the nose screen section slides up, the AC condenser and oil cooler should pivot and lift out of the way, and there should be a screen after the 2nd silver one and the actual radiator that pulls out, i think i might have seen it on yours briefly. My friend just got the 4044r open station and thats how his is, but his has the exhaust coming out the lower left side rather than the top of the hood. there may be some differences between the 4044 and 4066, but they use the same size engine just tuned differently for different HP, made by Yanmar. maybe muffler is different? the open station has the 4wd lever to the left of the seat too instead of the dash, they have the controls quite a bit different from the cab. also the rear scv and 3 point controls are levers to the right of the seat

    Agree with the 4 wheel drive disconnect handle. Also I notice that if you lock the joystick when you have the loader disconnected, the position of the lock is finicky, I could get the left /right motion to operate without fidgeting with the lock to allow the joystick to function normally

    • @lukedaoutdoorguy7639
      @lukedaoutdoorguy7639  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I also noticed that my loader lock did not work well and I forgot to mention that in the video. And that is a serious safety issue when I usually leave the 3 year old in the machine when I do some work on the ground.

    I'm kinda glad that me and my dad went with a john deere 5075e especially the bucket. We were turned off by the price and things that don't come standard with the 4066r. The thing that probably good on the 4066r is the engine is made by yanmar and is just realiable. We have a 95 jd 1070 with a yanmar and it's still running till this day

    Do not run 4wd on hard surfaces, causes lock-up. It your 4 wheel locks up, just back up a bit and it will release.

    (The 4066r John Deere critical review) video, To Luke Thomsen one more point here on TH-cam check these out and also check them on Google for spec's on Google. Massey Ferguson 1700 and 2600 series, make sure you type them in with cab. Example: Massey Ferguson 1759 with cab and loader. Maybe to these maybe better for you based on what you are saying. Here then check out case-international compact tractors on TH-cam and Google.

  • @gerdesoto262
    @gerdesoto262 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The man made the video of ( 4066r John Deere critical review) on your concerns about the axle components getting damage well there is a easy fix for that, go and buy 3/8 inch steel plate and cut and heat it with a torch to what you need to make it fit to protect the idems your talking about. And paint the metal also when done. You have to learn fast there is times you have to modify and manufacturer things yourself to make it work better then the factory did. You talk about where the fuel tank opening is to put fuel in on the John Deere that is a good spot, because the fuel tank will not get ruptured easily there. But you are persistent of having the fuel tank opening where you pointed out then you need to go and see Massey Ferguson 4709 & 4710 models and others that may please you. Next maybe you should think about having a 500 gallon fuel tank with electric 120 volt pump sitting next to your garage. So you take your tractor and just drive up to the tank and electric pump and fill up with out any problems that you talked about.

    • @lukedaoutdoorguy7639
      @lukedaoutdoorguy7639  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not very practical for your average joe. In my opinion you should not spend 40K on a tractor that is missing basic protective components.

    • @gerdesoto262
      @gerdesoto262 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lukedaoutdoorguy7639 I understand what you are saying but if check John Deere Massey Ferguson and others has gotten to the point where there tractors and a public big rip off, one the reasons they are underpowered by at least 75% then alot of them are short of 2 set hose hookups. Many tractors should have 4 sets of hose hookups on the back at least. Many don't. Then the other thing should be on them tractors is one lever to operate the speed of the P.T.O. first gear for the 540 R.P.Ms second gear for 1000 R.P.M. third gear for 1500 R.P.M. that way you would get a choice to what a person wants or needs. And many don't have cabs on them, that should be standard equipment period on all of them tractors no exceptions. One thing that very true car engines are putting out more horsepower even on the 4 cylinder engines then any tractors manufacturers is. Check that and see how true that it is. The major difference the tractor manufacturer is rip the public off for super big mega dollars and not getting what you are paying for in comparison of automobile engine verses the engine put out by the tractor manufacturer it still a major rip off. Here's one example a tractor manufacturer wants $40,000 to $50.000 for a 40 horsepower engine, now go check history on the auto makers side and see what the same size engine would cost, maybe $5,000? Maybe $10,000? At the junk yard from a wrecked vechile maybe less plus tractor manufacturers are rapping the public's wallets badly and United States government is not doing nothing about it so far to keep these tractors manufacturers in check, from ripping the public off badly.

    Luke Thomsen sorry it took so long to reply back to you. you were talking about the cost of the John Deere $40,000. cost well if you did some checking these compact tractors are under 60 horsepower, and anybody takes that by the $40,000 that's a big rip off because there are to many engines been built for the same horsepower for a lot less money, example, Briggs & Stratton or Tecumseh or Honda or Kawasaki make ENGINES UNDER 70 HORSEPOWERE PLUS JOHN DEERE AND OTHER TRACTOR MANUFACTURERS KNOW THEY CAN RIP THE PUBLIC OFF AND NOBODY IS GOING TO STOP THEM, BUT THEY FIND SUCKERS EVERY DAY THAT WILL PAY THERE BIG MEGA RIP OFF MONEY

    I have a 3033, the A/C unit the dealer says isn’t as big as on the bigger tractors. I was wondering if the 4000 series was the bigger unit?? Mine doesn’t do a good job of cooling and I’ve had to replace the unit 3 times .

      Luke Thomsen question for you . The tractor losing radiator fluid . Is it dusty there ? Reason I am asking mine was leaking but I was able to track it down it is actually coming out of the weep hole on the water pump. I am in dusty condition in Florida so I have to blow out my radiator on a regular basis and it stops leaking. Don’t make any sense but it does. I thought if it was coming from there it was a bad water pump. So basically what I am saying is blow it out and keep it clean and see if it helps.

    The man who made the video ( 4066r John Deere critical review) you talked about can not see the bucket when it's down, and other easy fix, go and buy yourself a 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch steel rod or it's also called steel round stock anyway get 2 of them 3 feet long, them every 6 inches apart using tape make it 2 inches wide at every 6 inches when you get done taping that up with masking tape then you paint the open areas where the tape is not at with Construction Orange, then when that dries up. Then remove the tape now it should have a striped look to it next you still have areas where isn't painted yet, take the tape and cover up the painted areas, next then paint the unpainted part paint that with white or a light blue or red why so you can see it better at night (So when you are done it looks like a zebra strip). Then weld then 2 painted steel rods on the bucket at the top on the outside when the bucket is sitting flat like it ready to dig into something. Just make sure them 2 steel rods are pointed into the sky. It cost a little more in paint but you bought yourself the reflecting paint then when your done painting those steel rods at night you will find out pretty fast what headlights will do for you to see alot better. One pint if each color should be enough paint to do the job
