Alright I now have made it through the rest of the video after my laughing fit and bruh...you are a GOD TEIR human being for sharing your knowledge with us common folk. My new "for fun" edh deck went from "am I really about to spend over 800 bucks on a deck that won't see competition" to "I spent less then 50 bucks and have not only the most beautiful edh deck I've ever seen, but it's also something I can be very proud of and almost at a 'work of art' level"

I'm probably gonna use this process to print proxies for cubes and EDH of cards that are too expensive.
I do enjoy proxies for Commander edh

You can also build up the glue on the back a little bit more than usual to adjust how much foiling you really want, just make sure to even out the glue through out the art of the card or else you'll get some gunk underneath the card.

The best way to keep from messing up the back and to make it easier to get the front off , tape town the card before rubbing it with acetone and use a small paint brush to get the spaces where the tape covers

If you're printing on the matte side and putting the transparency on the blank foil gloss side up doesn't that mean you have to print the image backwards?

I just realized that this video was posted 4 years ago and was gonna say that Dark Depths isn’t banned at all in commander because I run it in my Aesi Tyrant of Gyre Strait Lands deck.

What about foil/proxy cards for your commander. I really fail to see why it would bring down the wrath of WotC if I'm using a Custom Arcanis instead of a legit Arcanis as my commander.

I've been trying to make custom pokemon cards this way, however my images are way too transparent when placed on a foil blank. Only in certain light does it actually look vivid. Otherwise it's rather hard to see. Looks fine with a white background, just not that good on the foil card. Any suggestions?
I'll have to run some test and try Pokemon cards, then get back to you
No idea if this is the problem but maybe you can try darkening the image before printing it

There's nothing wrong with selling proxies.
The problem is trying to sell proxies as if they were real cards. If both parties know 100% that the card is a proxy, then there's no problem, sell away.
what about proxy tokens? if I brought some down to my lgs and used them during fnm, do you think anything bad would happen?
Not at all.
People use dice as token proxies.
MAYBE at the highest level of play they would require real tokens.

Yeah, but its a different process. Which i'll be putting up a video in Jan. showing another method.

I use Pokemon cards for decks that are mono colored.

lovinmusic500 have not tested it on non foils, will test to see if the art comes off.

Nah it makes a mess, acetone will only work with foil as they have a thin "plastic" layer.

Liam Sarett you can play with them at your LGS for fun. You just can't play with them in Sanctioned tournaments because those are official tournaments and the cards are not real.

Nail polish remover is probably more expensive than a jar of home depot acetone
thanks for this, a lot of other tutorials i've found ask to use stuff like inkaid, glass and tile medium, and varnish, and while i'm not averse to doing all those steps, each one of those things are crazy expensive (the inkaid alone costs about 25 dollars and i can only order it) and difficult to get where i live. all this stuff i can find at staples is very convenient and while not cheap in themselves (the transparency film is 62 dollars where i live for the 50 pack) since it's virtually the only thing that i need on it doesn't come out so expensive or hard to get at all.
Remember to do this in a well ventilated area!!! Acetone/Nail Polish Remover is not good for you!
How did you able to print the white hair on the acetate?
Magic lol. It’s not really white it’s the shading, lighting makes it look white with the reflection of the foil.

How many card are you getting out of the ink you use/how much is it costing per card?
Great tech! I just made a trophy card for our XLN league using an oversized foil. Looks good but I get micro bubbles or some texture between film and card. Do you have that as well? I can’t see clearly on the vid.
+David Grinas I flatten out the bubbles and weight the card down while it's drying to get the perfect finish

Love this idea and am going to start the club with making some of these with my students!! I understand that you cannot use proxies in sanctioned events but let's say we made tokens instead, would we be able to use the tokens at an FNM or local tournament? Thanks!
Yes, you can use proxy tokens for FNMs and local tourneys. Anything can be used to represent a token since it is not an actual card within your deck.
So you can definitely see the fake look too it

Where xan you get cheapp foils to be used for this? And would you recommend to laminate the card for protection?
Can you use white glue instead of spray?
Might be to thick, also when it dries it could crack, I have not tried it tho. Always good to test.

I used to do this just to screen print fake cards for my collection, since I don't have the money to buy real ones, then I decided to start making some really cool custom art ones using a tile gloss method, they turn out awesome for edh decks

you are right friend, thats why i speak about not selling and not owning the right to arts. This is just an example of things you can do. Proxies are not for sale due to many copyright laws.
Didnt work for me. The foil shine didnt pass through my paper(It is transperent but it didnt work idk why)
Hey Doc, I love this video and process. I'm struggling to get my proxies to print as nicely as yours, though. I even have your same printer but they're just not coming out well--a little blurry maybe? or spotty? It's hard to describe. Anyway, can you share what settings you use in the program/with your printer? Do you tell it that you're printing on photo paper for instance? or change the brightness? Many thanks in advance.
I've arrived! This is exactly what I'm trying to do. Just need some foil dual land alt arts for my cube. I love the idea about making smaller tokens, that's actually brilliant. Makes it easier to play in a smaller space.

You can use an image editor to flip the image like photoshop
Doctor MTG I did. But then the print went out 20% smaller. So I would have to resize them and then the image will look bad :(
What was the resolution on the original image you put into the set editor?
Also keep in mind that the image might look a little fuzzy on screen but will look sharper when it prints at that smaller scale

You’re allowed to use an actual proxy in an event if your card gets damaged during the event and the judge makes it. Most LGS don’t mind you using proxies you make this sound like much bigger of a deal than it is. There’s nothing wrong with this as long as you don’t try to pass it off for what it isn’t. But good instructions
I always ask but the General consensus is that as long as you own the card and can prove it you can use 1 proxie for 1 real card.
Example if you have 4 real Godless shrine dispersed amongst 4 EDH decks and your modern deck has 4 godless shrine, you can proxy them if you show the LGS your legit ones and tell them "i dont wanna have to take apart my decks".

Selling an MTG Proxy is punishable by the same same act when people sell a pirated game, movies or albums. However, owning a proxy is slightly different and can be passed off as paying homage to the original source. Fun Fact, you can download and use any protected film for 24 hours, after that it becomes illegal, so as long you delete the movie within 24 hours, you're in the clear :P
