I graduated high school in the '80's and enjoy your reviews of "classic" fragrances. I haven't worn mens fragrances for decades but have recently been getting back into the practice of doing so. Thanks again.
Yeah, wearing cologne sort of slowed down in the last few decades and I’m also getting back into it and graduated in 82. It seems the art form of wearing cologne has come back strong by viewing these yt videos.
Great stuff! Oscar de la renta Pour Lui is a wonderful masculine classic scent. It's amazing how the addition (or subtraction) of a few notes can really change the way a fragrance comes across. I know you're not a fan of Red for Men Giorgio Beverly Hills (You reviewed it), however, it shares the same DNA as Pour Lui, but Pour Lui has a few more notes added. Pour Lui feels way more "finished" and ends up being a way better scent. I get the "barbershop" and the "fougere" feel, also, I would say very "comfortable" if you know what I mean, an easy wear (almost a 'Dad" scent), nicely blended. I really enjoy when your reviews come out, I generally share a lot of your sensiblities about mens fragrance. Also, don't always blindly trust Fragrantica's note break downs, sometimes they're wrong (not all the time but enough to check other websites).
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey Agreed, but I didn't say it "smells" like Pour Lui I said it shares a few similar notes, though, right? I guess a better example would be Chevignon cologne and Polo Green, hmm? Chevignon vaguely hints at Polo but doesn't have the extra notes that makes Polo Green an Icon. Is that easier to understand?
Initially I got a urinal puck scent, but less than a minute it got so much better, this scent brought me back to these 80's-90's frags, after a bad experience with Ted Lapidus (Black Soul) &Ted Lapidus for Men, which both I used to spray our front trees to fend off raccoons. Got this 90ml at a drug store for $19.00, so it was well worth it. The dry down just gets better and better, this is one that is decent buy and good reach if your heading out the door. Great review as always, please keep up the great work :) Regards from West Coast Canada !

Great take brother .. love the fragrance, smells awesome. Definitely checks all the boxes for me. A very easy wear for beginners stepping into the classics. Great vid !
This is one of very few classics that I would recommend getting a vintage bottle. I have a “Parfums Stern” version, and it completely annihilates my newer bottle in smell and performance. I’m not sure which one you have there. If you are getting 6-8 hours, it may be an older formulation. I easily get 8 hrs with the “Parfums Stern” version. I’m sure there are even older formulations as well. Thanks for the review !

@@vettevert5284 I've never bothered with chasing vintages before; but given how it's one of my favorite fragrances, and the extremely reasonable price, it seems well worth a try. I'm slightly concerned about the possibility that comes with buying old bottles from strangers that the bottle I get might be slightly off, but I guess that's just the risk you have to take. Oscar de larenta has some great scents. Will try this one day. Have you heard Trussardi Uomo is discontinued? Every perfume store near me is selling off their last bottles for over $200.
I had the reformation version of it and it was just okay, good soapy scent but that’s it, I sold it. I have vintage Uomo “Fresh” by Trussardi but not the original
Hi Kelan. Does your bottle have a blue-colored cap or a black-colored one? I've heard that the newer ones are made in the U.S.A (and have a black cap) and aren't as good as the ones made in France which have the blue cap. What do you think about it? I've never tried "Pour Lui", but I'm interested to try it.
I just blind bought a bottle of this. I love it! It's got that clean blast of aldehydes in the opening and then you get the earthy leather with the spicy carnation and patchouli. I got the gift set with the body wash and I think the body wash smells great too, although it's light like you said. I wish it was possible to get deodorant and aftershave for this one.
So I bought this and thought there was an animallic note to it. Didn’t like that. So I RETURNED it. Now, weeks later I’m wishing I had it back. Especially after wearing both PR PH and Bogart Signature this past week. I think I was a fool to return it! Thanks again for all the insight! And Merry Christmas!!
I used to wear this in the 1980’s I recently bought a small volume sampler for nostalgia, not sure if it’s bad or not but didn’t smell anything like I remembered.
Not tried this, but have just received Oscar for men, from 1999, and it's really good, a fantastic citrus, peppery fir opening with light florals and a really nice subtle vanillic woody dry down with hints of incense, reminds me of the original chanel allure, and adg profumo because of the incense in the dry down, a real hidden gem, love to know what you think of it.
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey I would describe it as similar to Obsession but softer. A bit like the smell of a spice cake being baked. It does have that initial alcohol hit you get from many cheaper scents, but I find this boils off quite quickly.
I like the older colognes and Pour Lui is a classic. How they classify this scent as a leather scent I don't get it. I get more of classic floral barbershop from it. I think it is a great buy.

While burning incense stick in the house from Even Greater Divide/headshop (aldehydes like eating Pop Rocks Candy, smelling incense sticks, lysol disinfectant aerosol). Mid: Grandpa sandalwood bar soap on a rope. Dry down: Dad shaving foam/balm OR Mom eating unsweetned yogurt or feeding baby Gerber pudding.
