Because instead of hiring managers that can manage a business the officers hire managers that are easily managed. A manager implies the ability to think on their own and that could deviate from the Company Plan and Codes. Heaven forbid.

Last year our company was millions of dollars behind on orders and worried about losing customers, so they had the office guys come down and work production on the off shift thinking we could make up the difference faster. In the machine shop where I work they quickly learned that they weren't going to be gaining much of anything because they had no idea how complicated things are. Most of the office guys I set up machines for and gave detailed instructions to ended up leaving after an hour because they didn't want to screw up a whole production run. That's fair. They realized they were out of their depth and did the right thing. I just hope they learned a lesson about how difficult it is on the shop floor and that they need to be understanding and give us the time it actually takes to get things right.

    • @rainbowinthedark453
      @rainbowinthedark453 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hopefully they had a better appreciation for what you guys on the floor go through, but not only that, hopefully before making decisions that affect all of you guys down there they were a little more cognizant of how it might affect you, and made better decisions. I mean, isn’t that the goal of having other people stand in other peoples shoes to learn some thing? I really think that’s a great idea and if I had a company I would insist that everybody spend time in every job even if it was just shadowing them to watch and see how things are done. What makes their job hard and what could make it easier? How to keep employees, happy and productive, it really isn’t that hard people wanna work and people want to do a good job most of them.

Rotations and being in the departments should be really a thing. But it is also not very useful that certain people are hired and trained and take a certain role, usually those between first level of management and the workers. So already at middle management, numbers are pushed to juniors who decide that supervisors just need to "take charge" and "get the numbers". At this point, human communication breaks down and well, Top management is usually shielded from the problems. In consulting, we often asked top management to go and talk to the floor.
If they are not a certain "Type", this would change things FAST, usually. If they were of the "type", then no matter what we did, we usually gave up the consulting gig. There would be no changes ever with them. We did once see a CEO fired by the mother company though, which was quite surprising, exactly for reasons like this.

I watched my company go downhill on a greased slide when it was sold.
Quality suffered dramatically, staff was cut to below skeleton crew numbers, our workload doubled, and they even cut our pay rates & stopped our profit sharing and holiday bonuses.
When I spoke up, I was told “Don’t worry Jim, your job is secure!”
I told them “That’s great, but I don’t want it anymore.” and put in my notice.
Best decision ever, and it even helped my family life more than I could have hoped for.
If you’re in a shyt job, and can get out of it, DO IT..

Every employer needs to talk to their long-term employees, the ones that have stayed, in an honest and candid manner. Honestly, the best thing to do is take them out for something to eat or a coffee away from the place of employment to get an honest conversation where they don't feel penalized and they can look at you in the face more like a peer almost then as an employee. They're going to tell you where your cracks are. The biggest thing you can do is LISTEN to them. If they've stayed all this time and there's a downturn either in product, policies, management, or profit, they'll know WHERE your cracks are. All you have to do is actually listen to them and implement strategy based off their comments. 😉

Often the realities of day to day operations are lost on upper management.
Their decisions are made almost exclusively by looking at numbers on paper. But they won't get in the trenches and examine the factors that affect those numbers.

Jobs have been so hard to come by all my life because of managers and supervisors on power trips my personality didn't work with them they wanted respect but never returned respect to employees. I worked for a insurance company office job the supervisor bullied me for 19 months making things up she the first person I ever let drive me to sickness I took 2 weeks sick leave went back she started again. I finally quit. I was a hard worker but gave up. This supervisor is no longer they finally caught up to her she just a pee on now she was sent to a course how to treat people. But Karma caught up to her in long run. Company didn't want to pay her out she there 21 years they paid me out instead 1 year cheaper.

I worked at a place where the CEO made a decision about a component for one of our products (each one of these components cost about $12,000), our engineers told him was not feasible. He told them to make it work. It didn't. It cost the company $100 million. To make our finished product we had to purchase the component from a competitor. The debacle led to massive layoffs, plant shutdowns, loss of market share, and a diminished reputation. The CEO was forced to resign, but walked away with a $16 million golden parachute.

I have worked in places where certain employees came late to work every day. They try and do as little as they can. If you mention it to them they get angry and aggressive. They always try and borrow money and if you lend it to them you will probably never get the money back. I lent someone 50 dollars. After about 8 months I confronted him about the money. He said Why you sweat me bro.I never saw the money. He was finally fired for sleeping in a chain on his shift. He said that he was fired because the President of the company was racist. It is unreal.

An old coworker of mine got in trouble for legit slacking off and sexual harassment. He played the race card. But see...he was white. The big hats, all white American. Our four American managers, 2 white, one white/black, one white/Asian. Who could he really blame on racism? As a black guy, that bothered me. A lazy, incompetent employee playing the card only after he no longer benefits from stealing hours.

I worked for MDOT (Mississippi dept of transportation) and had a supervisor just like this woman described, except worse. He would sleep in his office, and one time we got called out to a emergency job, and the supervisor had to run a piece of heavy equipment to finish the job. When we got back to our office, he proceeded to chew us all out for “allowing the boss to work and not coming up to take over”. Dude you sleep, sit in your air conditioned truck watching us work everyday. One of my co workers sent in pictures of him asleep in his office, to the headquarters in Jackson MS…nothing happened and he got to retire the next year with full benefits. And people would Der why people don't want to work for companies that use them as cattle workers. More and more pressures and responsibilities are put on workers with no compensation. I cleaned at a hospital for 3 years. The amount they expected you to do was ridiculous. I had 200 chairs to wipe down as just a small part of my job. I had 20 bathroo.s to clean, the pharmacy to clean, the Cafe to clean. Then I could do about 20 Dr's offices and exam rooms. I had 3 staircases to sweep and mop. Plus the lobby and entryway to vacuum and mop. I had Dr's lounges to clean and let me tell you I have never seen more of a mess than from Dr's. They never seemed to find the garbage can and all their garbage was beside it. Once they had boxes of donoughts with sprinkles. OMG. Sprinkles everywhere and stepped on and ground into the floor. Well, she heard from myself, the newest in the bunch with only a year and some change in, a few employees and a supervisor with 10+ years exp, and one with 20 years under her belt - who broke down upon hearing how I felt considering she's been proud of what the store WAS but not what it is now. Big hat still thought we were lazy and unwilling. Let her take an overnight shift. Disappeared 3 hours in just to be found in the break room bawling. What we do every night without tear shed, she hysterically bitched about in only 3 hours. The privilege!
