@Nick - if you soak the laces in slow curing resin under vacuum for a while, won't it get rid of most of the air bubbles issues you are having? I understand that it is much messier to then continue with the project like you do. Just thought it might help with the air problems in the pressure pot?

I was looking at the bottom of the bowl and I got a flash of an idea. It kinda reminded me of a bowling ball. It would be kinda cool to have you actually MAKE a resin bowling ball. Maybe even a clear one with a skull in it like in Mystery Men.
I just read this comment to my husband and he went it one better. An LED light inside that makes the eyes glow red whenever the ball moves. It could even be the kind that motion CHARGES the battery, kinda like a self winding watch. That way it could be permanently encased in resin, but never run out of power.

What if, instead of "another bowl" (you seem to be getting bored of making everything into a bowl), you made a lampshade out of the bowl shape....I think the light projecting through some of your projects would highlight the trapped articles included in the resin nicely.

I think that would be a cool one if he first made different colored transparent resin cubes, then dump them into a bowl and add clear resin to fill the spaces.

    Hi Nick from the Netherlands!
Just a heads up, I'm one of those people who have tons of accounts and don’t always get to watch everythings but that's because there's those you just want to check in on now and then and others you will not watch áll of at the time but will álways get back to.
    You're one of those!
I may not watch a little while, busy or following some things closely like Friesian horses where you follow daily life..but I néver forget you because I love what you do/make.
Sadly I can't afford to buy any of your things but I love watching you make them.
I make jewelry myself and craft with seaglass shells and driftwood.
    Anyway..you are never forgotten!

This is an awesome project, im going to have to try something like this. I think instead of CA to fill the holes, if your lathe has a real slow speed, hit it with a layer of epoxy while it slow spins. That will fill the holes and make it shine. Love watching your videos, you make them fun and very interesting lol.

Holy moly Nick! I must say, I wasn't entirely sure that this was gonna work because of the elasticity, albeit minor, of the shoelaces versus what I'm guessing was 100% cotton in the hankies which makes them virtually un-stretchable. I wondered if the minimal elasticity would somehow grab hold of the bowl while it was on the lathe and catapult you across the shop. Disaster pants fer sher! Clearly, thankfully, I was wrong and you were right... which is why you do this for a living and I do not. Love you and still watching in the southern California desert, MK ❤😁🏜

After looking at your squiggly bowl, I had an idea. Sporting good stores sell rubber fishing baits that are in worm and other wiggly, tasty to fish, shapes. They are close in texture to gummy candies. That could give you a project to drive you buggy....(cricket sounds)...

At first I thought you were making blue string pudding for clangers - remember that one? But then it turned out to be a very arty bowl, very nice indeed😁

I'm guessing the bubbles were the air trapped in the woven shoelaces. Maybe soaking and squishing the thick ones in resin first night alleviate them? And then you could place them in a specific way, maybe placing them in spirals like rosette or spiraling out from the center would be cool too.

Came out very well. I did feel sorry for that Sapele blank though; maybe get a few whitewood boards, glue them together, & rough turn them into your own sacrificial blanks. Should save you piles of money & should also hog out more easily than the hardwood.
