Season 4, Episode 5 "Mr. Monk Gets Drunk": Returning to the wine-country inn where he and Trudy spent their honeymoon, Monk tries to relive their time together, but his reminiscences are interrupted by a stranger. The stranger then disappears, and Monk is the only person who seems to be able to remember him.

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

This is one of my favorite solves with the fact Monk keeps starting over, him being sweet towards Stottlemeyer and all his remarks he makes while drunk.😂😂😂

Several crime episodes depict hiding bodies in wine vats. LOL
From Snopes: In the days before refrigeration and embalming, folks who died far away were sometimes transported home preserved as best they could be in a barrel of alcohol.
There are many stories of people unwittingly drinking from the barrels, who knows how many may be true, but likely the inspiration for stories like this one.
So shocked he couldn’t taste the alcohol on the wine-

Im shocked the man used an entire shelf of cologne at ones. Aint noooo way some one could taste or smell a normal amount of daily sprays diluted in that amount of wine. 🤣
@@carollollol I know a guy who uses so much cologne, you can smell him a mile away. I think his plan is to make all females in the immediate vicinity pass out from the cologne, and then he has his pick of the litter.

lol, There are lots of employees on the vineyard who didn’t know and the group got careless and didn’t think to put a sign or something on it.

This was a great episode, at this point Natalie should have known better than to doubt Monk
But they were supposed to be on vacation and not having to solve a murder case. I think it was the one they stayed in the FBI cabin that she accused Monk of being bad luck. Then came around by the end and said he's good luck because he's there to solve the crimes.
Doubting Monk is her job so he doesn't go off the rails.
And monk was drunk too never happened before
It was only a couple of months of them working together.

One interesting detail is he's a very unforgettable person, very loud and he's a bug guy, so it's even less likely that they'd forget him.

Monk is one of greatest crime shows , more people know about this show.
Monk will not make my top three. Midsomer Murders, Pirot, and Paradise Islander Murders. Here's something to consider... Thy Should Not Murders, folks have made billion$$$ off this Catastrophe.

Zero reason why they couldn't have just kept the money and reported the body. Not like the cops knew he had the money, or it even existed.
He very well might have been a suspect in a robbery and they'd be worried about having the place searched for the money, having not seen this episode in years I didn't remember if he was a suspect or not

The real mystery is in a vineyard full of wine they chose to serve the stuff with the DEAD BODY in it.
Well I'm pretty sure the contracted killer knew about the money and would be suspicious of a group finding a body and no money.
But it's monk. He would have had an aneurysm not tying up the loose end.

The old hide the body in the wine barrel move. However, you’re not supposed to put it in a barrel that big. In fact, you need to cut the body in pieces and put it in a smaller barrel. Oh! and make sure it’s not a wine barrel! Amateurs!

It's actually dumber they decided to hide the body in the winery. If anything they should have done this.
1). Leave him in his car and pour alcohol on it, then let it drive off a cliff, dude was already dead, they could have pronounced it an drunk driving accident.
2). Have all of them say he left in a hurry, like he got spooked by something, they tried to stop him because he had too many.
3). Leave some of the money in the car but bash the case so it looks like most of it burnt or got lost in the accident.
This way the fake detective gets thrown off the trail, Adrian gets thrown off and they keep the money. Simple.
Would have been easier to say he checked out early

That wine is so obviously plain grape juice. If I got served red wine that looked like that, I'd run back to inspect the kitchen, and wine bottles, to make sure they weren't stored in the sun!
