That was a lot of work! But the nice tidy edge and extended space will make a beautiful flower bed for you. Looking forward to seeing the colorful updates.

It was indeed. I’ve planted some flower seeds in the basement under lights. A lot cheaper than buying plants but longer to see results. The old saying good things worth waiting for or something like that.

I'm impressed you're in better shape than we are that word was not for sissies!!!!! I am looking for something to frame my backyard and to extend my flower bed around my patio but I know we'd have to hire somebody to do that work!!! I thought you would get a kick out of this although the price was not funny my sweet husband tried to fix a leak under the sink he went to Ace hardware and buy all the stuff that the guys at work told him to buy he put it all together and was so proud of himself he waited the proper time to turn the water back on and flooded Arch kitchen before we could get it cut off because our cut off is in his library closet for whatever reason we have no idea why it was built like that but I tell you now after the $85 he spent to fix it and the $340 plumbers fee that's what we spent he put it together right which made him very happy but he bought the wrong kind of tubing plastic tubing you know that white stuff I don't know what it's called to glue to the other tubing it would not adhere of course we had no way of knowing I felt so sorry for him to look on his face he was just sick but we called the plumber and found out there was another leak that was unseen so that was the best call and will always be the best call from now on!!!

Oh, I feel for your husband. Glad the plumber caught the other leak before he left or otherwise you would have to pay for another service call plus the fix. One thing you can always count on with owning a home, sooner or later something is going to need to be fixed. Thanks for sharing.

Good job. I just put some down today. I used black plastic sheeting as my weed barrier and will fill with rubber mulch. I used a drill bit to widen the connector holes. I used a spray bottle of citrus cleaner to lube the pins. Also, you're right ... none of the "peg holes" went all the way through. So I too used a drill to go through the barrier and into the ground.

Thanks for the “good job”. Much appreciated, glad you were able to get yours down. I just tested mine with the weed eater this week and it held up great.

Oh boy I hope you didn't do the rubber mulch. I did the same. Pro-is it doesn't decompose/go away. Con-it doesn't go away 😂
I ended up building a sifter to "clean" the mulch to freshen it up/clean leaves and debris. It didn't go well. I should of just done reg mulch

@nickg505 no rubber mulch. That stuff is “forever”. I don’t think they should be allowed to sell that stuff. Thanks for sharing, maybe you helped someone else from a similar situation

A few years ago, I got a little gardening seat/kneeler. It saves me from bending down or kneeling except if I need to dig out a sprinkler head or something of that sort. On fairly level ground, it has saved me a lot of pain and grief.

Wow attaching those pieces together is really difficult. We did this yesterday and had a very hard time. Searched to see if someone had a better way to do it, seems everyone struggled as well.
They do look really nice but are very difficult to work with.

Whew~ well done on that "young man's game", which clearly was a pace yourself type project. We are getting ready to do the same, as means to seperate a rubber mulch border (around our park model trailer) from our gravel yard, here in the desert. We're trying to decide if we should lay down weed paper or cardboard beneath the 3ft wide rubber mulch border, or if the mulch itself will be enough to prohibit weeds popping up underneath~ soil underneath is small gravel mixed with hard packed desert dirt. My husband has already raked back all loose rock & smoothed out surface in preparation for mulch & edging.
Truly appreciate the details & tips you included here, as we are using this same product from Rubberific. Have a couple of questions, if you happen to see this &/or have time or energy to answer. =) No pressure.
1.) Wondering if you used the same 1/4" drill bit for the stake holes that you used for the connector holes?
2.) Would you advise cardboard or weed tarp underneath the rubber mulch? We will not be planting any flowers or cacti, just placing filled pots on top of & wiggled down into the mulch.
*I will be doing most of the hands & knees portion, since my husband has also recently had both knees replaced, & it's rather uncomfortable, as you mentioned. Between the two of us, I'm feeling confident in this project, even if it takes us a week to complete~ that's perfectly fine. Discovering these helpful videos has sure been a blessing, so we thank you for taking the time to film. All the bestDan & Samantha in AZ

@@RV-there-Yet wow, I love comments and questions like yous. I’ll give it my best shot. First off, I’ve never even seen a desert other than on TV😃. Nor have I ever used rubber mulch. The drill bit I used for the stakes was larger than the one for the connecting pieces. I don’t remember exactly what size it was but it was an extra long bit, like 8-10” that I either picked up at a flea market or harbor freight. I think it was about 1/4” or maybe 3/8”. I have a lot of stones underground so I had to get past those. In a few places I drilled my own hole where the rocks were under the pre drilled holes.
As for the weed barrier vs cardboard. We built a small arena a few years ago and the man who built it suggested we lay down weed barriers under the sand. Big mistake. Within a few months we had grasses and weeds coming up on top of the barrier. My wife and I ended up removing the barrier so I could chisel plow. Talk about a lot of work. We had to scrape off the 6-8” of sand, a little at a time and cut the barrier up and pull out the pins holding it down. So I used cardboard and so far it’s doing great.
Hope this helps and good luck.

1:38 Dipping those pins in undiluted dish soap before inserting will make them insert much easier.

Looks good, Larry. I always liked nice edging, but I really don't need it for my yard. Previous owners used the plastic edging that's flat with a round top. I ended up tearing that all out because if just didn't look right and it trapped weeds between it and the sidewalk.
