I can`t begin to imagine the logistics of creating that hotel down there; imagine someone just thought "Oh there`s an old, disused somewhat dodgy mine down there; I know, let`s build a hotel!" Massive respect to everyone who was adventurous (or crazy) enough to stay there though, wow Tim, amazing!! Once again congrats on the 250,000 subs!!
Wow! The accommodation looked super cosy but my, I couldn’t believe that descent! I thought the initial tunnel was bad enough but then you were virtually caving. You’re a brave man, Tim. I couldn’t cope with that. Very claustrophobic.
Tim I absolutely LOVED this video it made me cry of emotion, as I use to live in Tanygrisau growing up as a child and it brought back so many memories. I've walked up that hill hundreds of times, and sat around that very lake for hours on end. Most of my childhood memories are of this area. When I was there the house you got kit up in was derelict, and I have a photo of myself as a child in there with sheep! Our house was right by the entranceway near the car park. Seeing it after all these years, hardly anything having changed, was so surreal. I showed the video to my parents last night and we watched it twice through, they loved it too. Thank you so much for doing this video 🙏
The view on the way to the mine is breathtaking. The panorama is pure magic. I don’t travel much, thank you for sharing your experiences. In the dead of winter, I can dream about enchanting landscapes, pittoresque villages and sunny beaches.
This is not for the weak of heart. They need elevators for us seniors. Your room needed a porta potty. We'll never be able to see this, so this was great to watch.
@@qwadpj5093yeah and yet in reality there's literally an entrance to the rooms that leads straight out to a service car park that's only a few feet away in the opposite direction from the way that the guests came 😂
This is incredible! What's even more mindblowing is the fact that someone's had to get all that furniture down there, that must've been painstakingly difficult
That was quite a journey to get to the actual hotel part and quite laborious and dangerous! The hotel part, definitely more basic facilities with everything in a bag, literally! Guessing you won't be making this an annual visit. Very brave of you Tim!
Back in the 80s, I stayed down an underground limestone mine (more properly called a "Quarry") with some friends. We used to explore the mines every weekend with a group of friends. These are situated near the villages of Box and Corsham, in Wiltshire. We actually slept in bivvy bags and small tents. On this one occasion, we stayed overnight. Strange noises were the worst thing .... mostly from the sound of water dripping from the roof down onto various rocks puddles, but the imagination running wild made sleep difficult. Unlike Tim's experience, we had to put up with extremely high humidity, approaching 90%. Occasionally, we could hear the unsettling sound of trains passing through the famous Box Tunnel which was only a few hundred feet from our location.
Hells bells Tim, what a brave man you are. You couldn't get me down there for anything, that has to be the most unusual place that you have stayed. Did Miles stay there for days on end? 🤔Those slate miners deserve more recognition for what they had to do, amazing, thank you 😊
What an adventure. My mind boggles thinking of how they got all that stuff down there to do this! Also quite sad to think of how those miners from yesteryear had to work in such conditions so far underground. You never cease to amaze me with your imaginative places to stay Tim. Would have loved for Gaby to have done it too...I can only imagine her comments on that descent into the mine!!😃
I'm always amazed that people used to work in these places. I know they didn't have much choice but imagine waking up every morning knowing this was your work day for pretty much all of your life
This is one of the best channels I have subscribed to. Being able to see different locations I would never ever have a chance of seeing is just awesome. Thank you Tim! The guide was lovely, knowledgeable and brave, as you all were. Well done.
Several questions came to mind: 1) evacuation plan for the hotel, is there one? 2) If someone got hurt, do the paramedics come down there to haul them out? 3) are there earthquakes in the area, and if so, would one get trapped in the rubble deep down? 4) how often do they change the sheets, because hauling out all that laundry and human waste in bags and the trash is a mind-boggling feat 5) what happens if there was a power failure, are there generators that will kick on for electricity? 6) is there cellular service down there in the event of an emergency?
@trixie9777 To answer some of your questions, although earthquakes aren't impossible in Wales and Britain as a whole, they are so small and rare as to not be a consideration and there is definitely no mobile reception underground. If someone got in trouble the first call would be to mountain rescue (999, ask for police then ask for mountain rescue).
Brilliant job, Tim! Well done. This was one of my most favorite vlogs you've done. It was spectacular. My ancestors came from Cymru (Wales), and many of them worked in the mines. Thank you so much for letting me peek into their world for a wee moment ❤️

Loved the video Tim, would like to go there myself 🙃🙃
You should!
This is incredible, thank you for the video!
Just when you thought the most terrifying hotel Tim has ever stayed in was a Brittania...
I would have spent the whole night dreading the walk back out in the morning. You didn’t tell us how much it cost Tim. Very interesting film
Great vlog Tim. You're very brave to do that, I wouldn't do it for all the money in the world 😮 I haven't seen the film you mentioned, do I really want to watch it after watching your video....🤔😂
Very original and interesting. I've been in various Welsh mines as a kid, and I'd LOVE to go back to them as an adult. Not a lot of opportunity for me unfortunately but you've shown me just what I've been missing. Wales is a magical country, I really miss it. My Grandad was born in Wales so I'm quarter Welsh.
