House of the Dragon Review | Targaryen History | Game of Thrones History | Great council of 101 AC | Jaehaerys Targaryen | Aegon Conquest
In this preview for House of the Dragon TV series, I am talking about 3 main points that you should know before watching the new Game of Thrones prequel series. The story is set before 200 years from Game of Thrones, a time when the line of succession had issues. Viserys Targaryen is the fifth Targaryen king, his brother is Daemon Targaryen, his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen. Great council of 101 decided that the male line should take the precedence over female line, but Viserys named his daughter as the heir. This lead to a bloody war that divides House Targaryen. In the book Fire and Blood, this is named as Dying of Dragons. History also calls it the Dance of the Dragons. Among other powerful houses are House Hightower and House Velaryon.
I also talk about the important kings that ruled Westeros before the time of the show, Alicent Hightower, Corlys Velaryon, and Jaehaerys Targaryen.
