Hello Alan. I have a few thoughts about the hand where you had 54s in the CO and you raised the river against the SB villain's 33% pot bet in a 3-bet pot. I definitely think it's a raise or fold spot, with calling being the worst option. You opted to raise. There are a couple of things that put me off raising in this spot. The first one is that as you mentioned, they are unlikely to fold Qx, which is a hand I expect to see here very often from opponents. The other thing is that it's a 3-bet pot. I find that from my own experiences, and what I've seen from watching a lot of strategy content, people don't really bluff or bet for thin value as often in 3-bet pots compared to single raised pots. I've not seen the data points for how the pool plays the river in 3-bet pots but that's my instinct for the spot. I am very much of a fan of bluffing where opponents have shown weakness by checking, which I think you do a lot yourself Alan. When the opponent takes an aggressive action by betting themselves, I'm a lot less inclined to try to bluff them though, especially when it's a 3-bet pot. I think you're a much better player than myself though Alan. Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this. If I am completely wrong let me know. 😄
Yeah, fwiw mate. This isn't going to be printing but what I try to show in these videos is as it's titled, a max exploit approach 😀. There will be an overfold here and if in doubt I always choose the aggressive action based on MDA. Obviously, things work sometimes and they don't and when they don't it will always raise eyebrows but I don't mind. I understand the strategy and exploits based on population and I don't mind clicking buttons against guys on these stakes. I will say one thing, he tanked down to the last few seconds and what I think to myself and mention to my students also that if they take that long to call it's not a bad play by any means and always brings a smile to my face that it put him to a difficult decision. 😀 thanks for the comment 👍
