"The Prestige" is is still Nolan's best film. A masterpiece. Thanks Chris!

Great video, but I think it misses the mark on the idea that Nolan leaves the viewer without answers. Most of the answers are actually given-we’re told how the machines work, how all the tricks work, who Caldlow is…all of it.
But that’s the point. We’re told again and again that telling the secrets result in the illusionist (or Nolan, creating the film) losing value and utility to the audience. In a way, we’re put to the test as viewers. In very few ways does this movie leave us without answers.

Interesting fanfiction but fanfiction non the less, I do love how people successfully got people to answer yes to "do you want to hear my fanfic" by saying theory or essay instead, really shows just how much good branding matters to marketing and audience attraction

We see it, but is it real? Or did Angier make up the story in his diary that he knew Borden would read? The whole diary could have been fake. Angier never met Tesla, there was no cloning machine, and he rehired Root to play his double for the final trick. For the last performance they switched places, with Root drowning. Remember how surprised “Angier” looked in the tank? That’s because he (Root) thought he was landing on a mat.
Cloning is impossible, the movie didn’t take place in another universe. We believe it is real because Angier is a master showman.

When in the hell did this new theory come from. I just watched another one that basically came to the same conclusion. Sorry, the Tesla machine was real. If u can explain the 1st time Danton uses it and produces a double and then shoots it I'll buy some of this. I've read the book and Danton uses the Tesla machine too many times producing a shadow version of himself. I would love to hear Nolan take on this new theory. It's interesting but it's funny when u are describing the simplicity of your theory and it is so incredibly complicated. I love all the Kubrick wild theories on The Shining and Room 237 is such a good documentary on people over analyzing a film to death. Kinda think that's what this new theory is. Until Nolan gives a yes or no it's all conjecture and a fun one at that but sometimes a red door is just a red door and imo The Prestige doesn't need all this extra hocus pocus to make such an incredible film.

You do realize the Tesla was fictitous of how the Tesla represents Elon Musk and how he always is carrying a trick up his sleeve. It was an Ode to Elon Musk on how he created something from nothing. This is no red door, if you want a red door, then go watch Insidious, this is based on real life history, not Hocus Pocus as you put it. Nolan is real, and so are we.

I wasted my time watching this only to hear some babble about how it wasn't real? I'm with you. Why the hats and cats if the machine did not actually exist and work as portrayed in the movie? The Prestige is one of my favorite movies precisely because it shows science is superior to mythology and superstition. Do NOT take my fictional Tesla cloning machine away from me!
