    Your suggestions are great. Especially the part about using your own LLM and building your own apps. And it's best they find a way to run everything locally on the phone. I don't think the smartwatch will go away though, as they serve health and fitness needs that smartglasses cannot.

    • @JasonMayes
      @JasonMayes  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why can glasses not serve health too though? Sure these don't have the heart rate monitor right now but there is no reason why they couldn't ever have it. Just not a priority right now in the first gen product. You can use radar on chip to detect heartbeat (think Google's project Soli) so you can put your glasses by the side of your bed and monitor your heartbeat/movement patterns etc as technology gets more compact one day. I am open to being wrong of course, but I think right now its a matter of personal choice and what we grew up with, but when the next generation of kids grow up with smart glasses (the iPhone of their time) then public preferences are likely to change IMO and people who are clutching on to their smartphones and watches will be the grandparents of tomorrow unwilling to change their ways. But again it may take longer than I expect and I may be ahead of my time for predicting the end of that device so may have to eat my words for the next few decades lol.

    Great video. Agree with making the glasses a platform the community can develop on.
    Also for sound Even Realities could partner with Time-Kettle (or make their own headphones) that sync with the glasses to enhance mic coverage and speech recognition for this current v1 product. I wouldn't say the glasses beat out the other wearables, they can work together to create an even richer experience.
    My biggest use case for these is translation, as I live part-time in the US and Colombia. Right now, the hardest pill for me is the Pro Translate subscription. If we could connect a LLM we already have, so a load isn't being put on Even Realities servers that would be a nice alternative.
    I work as a digital designer, I stare at screens all day. I want something that i can use as a tool to connect better with those around me and be able to navigate cultures & conversations more seamlessly.

    Thank you so much for this video. It’s great to see clear feedback based on actual usage.
    When I first saw these glasses, it felt like they managed to hit the sweet spot in terms of design and the right kind of feature simplification.
    I’ve been pondering a lot about their practical usage, and your explanations helped clarify a few points for me.
    - Navigation: I hadn’t considered the benefits of using it while biking, but that makes total sense in terms of comfort and safety. Just for that reason, I would consider buying a pair. On the other hand, I don’t often go to places where I don’t already know the way.
    - Notifications: I can see how some people might prefer this, but even with the option to control which apps can send notifications, it still feels too intrusive. Most notifications don’t require immediate attention, and having them pop up on the glasses might feel like they’re controlling me rather than the other way around.
    - Teleprompting: This is a great feature if you give presentations or speak in public frequently.
    - Real-time Translation: It’s great that the glasses can translate what others are saying, but doesn’t it become an issue if you can’t reply effectively? This is interesting, but for my personal use, I wouldn’t need this very often.
    - AI Assistant: It’s useful, but is there an advantage to having the AI on the glasses rather than just using an app on your phone?
    - Quick Notes: Same as above-this could be super useful for some people, but I’m not sure it justifies using the glasses instead of a phone.
    Overall, I really like what they’ve managed to achieve in this form factor and truly hope they succeed. I just worry that there might not be enough critical use cases to make people choose the glasses over their phones.

    • @JasonMayes
      @JasonMayes  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      For notifications you have 2 settings:
      1. It just shows a tiny out of your way bell icon and you have to look up to see the notification. Does not get in your way at all. It actually tries to stay out of your life until you want to do something which I love. 2nd setting pushes the notification through instantly for addicts so everyone can be satisfied. lol.
      2. Good point on translation - though I guess the vision here is if everyone is wearing such devices then everyone can see stuff in their language. A bit ahead of its time but in a world like that then it makes more sense. That being said I could also use it to listen to me and translate to say spanish and I could read that out to the person listening. Though I would have no chance for Mandarin. That being said, they could easily add to their app the ability to detect my voice and translate to the language I am translating from and play that via speaker of phone for other person to hear. Software update! And if they opened this up to JS developers like i mentioned - I could even make this using #WebAI on device so no cost.

      @BooleanDev หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      for the translation feature, i could see this being very useful for language learners. listening comprehension is often the hardest part, especially if they use words youre unfamiliar with.
      Most of the time, youll probably get away with a short yes/no or this/that response (in their language)

    Jason, thanks for the very thorough review. Many of us in the hard of hearing (HoH) community have been looking for smart glasses that can do transcription for a long time. The early reviews have been transcription is executed as a "translation" where source and target languages happen to be the same with a cloud API providing translation services. Because of all the moving parts translation / transcription, according to most early users, tends to have problems keeping up with anything but a single, very slow talking speaker. As a developer, do you think it would be difficult for Even Realities or a third party to move transcription processing only (not translation) to either the linked phone or onto the glasses themselves? This should make transcription much faster and provide a long desired solution for hundreds of thousands of people all over the world. Any insight on this question would be appreciated!

It is good for tasks that send text results or simple imagery like map data. Maybe in v2 they will upgrade to colour display but currently that tech consumes more power and leads to bulkier glasses - see Meta's new Orion release and see the size difference. I have no doubt that is the future of all smart glasses, but right now, today, this form factor that the G1s have is something I would not be embarrassed to wear outside in public in a social situation. However as I mentioned in video we (developers) have Web AI models that could run locally all day long for free like T5 translate model if they open up to developers to make their own stuff... So it's a case of getting even Realities to open up API to the glasses. Let's all request this🌟

      Well this version has no cameras for sure. Future versions they may decide to compete with Meta for say hand tracking etc which would need one I assume for more advanced things. In the meantime though I would prefer to use my phone as a camera to then ask a multimodal LLM what something is and then see the answer on my glasses as I explained I wanted to do in the video. That way you make use of your existing phone for when you need a camera with better quality photos too, but you can then read the answer with your phone back in your pocket. Anything that gets me off my smartphone more is a win for me.

      @@JasonMayes , I don't need, perhaps, the sound quality you are talking about, so there are two reasons 1) after some time the earbuds are physically bothering me 2) as I use prescriptions lens, to use glasses and earbuds at the same, increase a little bit more this discomfort.

Incredible things you can do with new sensors. As for exercise I don't have an answer there - what do existing glasses wearers do there? Do people who need glasses to see take them off for exercise? useful features?? You show google maps, unless you are traveling to random places each day that shouldn't be mentioned. It's a nice to have, but how about daily use? G1 should have transition lenses for that price... Like there is no point to wear them in bright sunny day... Putting on shades is a poor design. This is 600$ glasses not something that cost 1 dollar... My suggestion they need better reminders or notes, but there should be a "Show all notes" and by moving you head up down, left right you can see all notes even if there is 7000 words, so a gyroscope to help move the available screen to see more text or words. Next calendar would need to be perfect.
    If they hammer these features well they will sell very well.

      @@JasonMayes for trying to get a 600$ price tag this item has to be “essential to wear”. Currently the features offered isn’t that. All uses of this product currently isn’t that. Map? 99% of the population wouldn’t benefit maybe few times a year. Translate? 99% of the population wouldn’t use each day. Limited use cases. Notes could help a lot of people to keep reminders. The question is how ease of use is it? All you do is talk for obtaining and deleting the note? How good is it to capture the audio perfectly the first time? For 600 dollars I expect perfect such as a iPhone in terms of quality. That is no where there yet. Durability? No chance.
