It’s beyond tragic that a man comes home from work to find utter carnage with both his daughters and wife dying in their own home, my heartfelt, condolences because he’s never going to be able to unsee that.
It's awful to think what he went through walking into his own home..

I saw a Scouse lad get into a fight with a group of lads outside a chippy and he put that little wooden fork in-between his fingers. He did some damage tbf but we can't all start eating chips like an American and just grabbing them with our bare hands just because one scouser went full wolverine.
The point is if he used a kitchen knife then he would have done the same damage but if he had access to say an AR platform or really any firearm other than a bolt action then he could have taken the whole street out or a hospital or shopping centre or something. Not all weapons are created equal

Banning crossbows because of this lunatic is crazy. If he didn’t have a crossbow he would’ve used a kitchen knife, or a blunt instrument, or just his hands. Why punish all the people who responsibly enjoy archery as a sport because of this? This country is absolutely nuts.
the crossbow laws in this country are dumb though. After 18, you don't need to have a licence to get one. Literally, anyone can get one so I don't see why at least changing the law so it makes it harder for cranks like this to get one is a bad thing.

Do you know how many deaths involving a crossbow were recorded in the UK before this incident? I checked the ONS and there are zero incidents recorded.
Then you have to ask yourself if the policy would’ve prevented this particular incident, and the answer is no. Of course not.

Also there have been people who have been killed with crossbows before this. Not hard to find this out.
You must not have looked them up because it states on the ONS site that there is no specific ICD-10 code for deaths involving strikes from a crossbow or other non-firearm range weapons, so you couldn't really find data on it because they either don't hold data on crossbow shootings or they're unable to say whether some deaths were attributed to crossbow strikes. So you can't really bring up ONS to back up your claim for this very specific type of attack.

With respect that is a ridiculous comment. While technically any object could be a weapon, clearly those objects that are designed specifically to be used as weapons are far more dangerous. It therefore makes total sense to concentrate on restricting access to weapons, especially powerful ones like crossbows.
@@danielsiddon8206 The flaw in this sort of commentary is that it’s, in fact, perfectly obvious who would perish if we pitted someone with a fork or ‘razor-blade apple’ against someone with a gun or crossbow. There’s a reason why certain things are called weapons and others are not.
As a father of similarly aged daughters, and a husband, I’m absolutely devastated for John Hunt. Sadly, the previous government has made it policy to keep people with mental health issues in the community. I hope and pray that the new government looks into this in a robust manner. Also, the Army does train killers. Maybe they need de-programming before they return to civilian life?

Its not a ban if you just put in place more restrictions to stop crossbows being easily obtained. Should be similar to guns in this country if you cant provide a good reason for owning a crossbow then you shouldnt have one. Trying to compare a crossbow to a fork is ridiculous.
even if you don't ban them, the laws around them need to be changed. Anyone over the age of 18 can get one of these. Guns here are more regulated than crossbows.

People calling for a ban on crossbows, you can 3D print a crossbow and the bolts if you want something fancy, or use a piece of wood, some cord and a steel bar, impossible to ban.
Eh?. It's easy to ban them if the chose too. You can 3D print a gun and they are banned. I'm not sure how widespread crossbow injuries and crimes are so if it gets banned I'm indifferent but you saying it's impossible to ban them because someone can make one doesn't make sense.
i understand your point though one person 3d printing or making stuff out of wood 9 times out of 10 isnt going to produce something that can replicate the performance of a lightweight high precision mostly silent hunting crossbow with immense stopping power that you can buy with little checks instead of having to craft for months in advance pre-meditated.
some people could just snap and buy one of these with relatively short notice and use it asap. im not well versed in the checks for these kinds of things but im interested to hear any new details on the case, see if they let him have one even if he may have had a long history of mental issues on record or something.
i do think the fact that a crossbow is way quieter than a firearm is one of its most dangerous features, thats supposedly one of the reasons knives are so preferred in gangs in london, theyre silent and dont draw attention.

Crossbows are banned in most target archery clubs due to the fact that you do not require any skill to shoot one, whereas not many would be able to shoot a proper bow. Crossbows are like guns, point and shoot. I blame large department stores like decathlon and trago who sell to the general public with no background checks or knowledge about what they are selling. Most archery shops insist you are a member of a club and have completed a coarse.
You will however never stop people obtaining weapons by other means.

When I heard this yesterday, my initial reaction was that this is bloody awful, but it’s no less shocking than a terrorist attack. I’m not doing a comparison thing to bring about debates or cause controversy, I’m being serious. He terrorised those women with a weapon and killed them. That poor family. The neighbours must be in shock as well. That kinda tragedy doesn’t just shake the victims and the nearest and dearest, it scared everyone.

It’s tragic what happened but banning crossbows is absolutely absurd. Banning items doesn’t stop criminals from using them. I hate the British attitude towards self defence and the government’s obsessive need to take away people’s freedom of choice and responsibility. Crossbows have been used for thousands of years to hunt and for self defence and also for sport and leisure. Banning them because of a few isolated incidents makes zero sense. It’s pathetic. If a mad man gets behind a car and smashes in to a crowd of people will the government ban cars? It just sounds ridiculous.

Soldiers are trained to be impassionate and ofted traumatised by their training and experiences.
This person was 'in the Army' for a year. That's almost six months for basic training, and then the next three months finding out that he couldn't take it. Getting out takes three months, and while you're waiting you get all the low-grade stuff to do, like 'black-hand gang', keeping the location clean and tidy, or 'runner' - taking mail and stuff around. Hardly any kind of a soldier.

Those poor girls and their mother. :(. it makes me so sad when I think about their dad and sister. ...Last week we had a crossbow attack on a policeman who was guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade, Serbia... He was attacked by an Islamist extremist using the same weapon. I know this has nothing to do with this case but crossbows should not be sold online for 50 eu or anywhere in the world... They are as deadly as any other kind of weapon.
