One year ago I’ve made my most labor intensive project yet, the DIY backyard garden pond. One year later I did run into some problems, but I managed to get everything back on track and the pond now looks better than ever. I hope you enjoy the video and let me know if you have any questions!
This is reallly impressive! Maintaining a pond can be really difficult but you did it really well! I look forward to more updates on this pond and those beautiful rainbow shiners!
This looks really good. ❤ I love this dyi filter system. I have a pond. A few things I've discovered are the king tut plant can be a challenge to remove. I had to treat mine as an annual cause of it dying in the winter. The root ball can be back breaking to remove. Thanks for the update ❤
Ab und zu ein bisschen frische Milch in den Teich geben. Die Milchsäurebakterien helfen super gegen Algen. Die Fadenalgen müssen jedoch regelmäßig rausgeholt werden.
I’m not sure what size I did use, I might have mentioned it in the original build video but I’m not sure. Anyway I definitely didn’t use the thinnest option. You can find save money in a lot of ways, but the liner is one of those things I would recommend you spend a bit more on.
Hi,i have a pond with no filter or that,i have just underwster flowers and grass and you know that produces oxygen and i want to get a fish but idk if it gonna survive, ill hear from you .
I don’t have enough information to give any advise. It would depend on the size of your pond and how many/which plants you have. For the best advice I recommend you go to a pond/aquarium store and ask the employees. Good luck!
Fill the bog filter with gravel and have the water pump from the bottom of the bog. Make aure to wash off the soil from the potted plants so the dirt doesnt go in your pond
Ah I see, I'll keep that in mind, but I'm not sure they actually need that. The lily and other plants create a few different sections in the pond serving a similar function.
Blanket Answer by Cloverleaf will remove green blanket weed. Turns the pond milky for a few days. Dosent harm the fish or frogs & I can guarantee it will fix your problem. It completely disappears & stays away all summer. I dose it once a year. It’s the only product I have tried that works.
I will keep that product in mind in case I keep running into problems with the algae, however it now seems like I managed to get rid of it already. PS thank you! :)
Yeah it feels too deep but the label on the pot said it should be fine up to 40cm deep, which is how deep it is now. Should I move it? Maybe to the big filter or intake bay?
algae is there to filter the water removing nitrogen, phosphorus and dissolve organic carbon. This destabilize harmful bacteria and make the water habitable for the fishes.
I’m usually not a big fan of using chemicals to remove algae since they can only work temporarily as they don’t address the root cause. However it was getting out of hand and I addressed the issue by adding plants, so I felt this would be the best course of action. The plants I added (and plan on adding) will balance the water better and in a more appealing way than the algae does. And as of writing this comment both the plants and fishies are doing very well. If you have any further feedback please let me know!
String algae come when there is to much nitrate in the water. there are twoo ways to deal with that. water change or plants. alot of plants. best to do a 20% water change every week.
You are getting to much algae because water cycle is broken. You need more beneficial bacteria. Also try to take all dead leaf and decomposed matter so you dont get green water
Thanks for the feedback! After the actions I took in the video I haven’t seen any algae yet and the pond is thriving. I’ll be putting a net over the pond next fall to prevent leaves from entering the pond.

Can you please give me those all plants names @crunchyFern
@@Gorkhali1997I show all the labels in the video so you can pause the video and read all the names!
Thank you so much for both pond videos! Gave me inspiration and great tips to build my own pond which I'm currently working on! :)
Glad you like the video’s! Hope your pond turns out amazing! If you have any questions along the way you can send me a message on instagram! :)
What a great job you did , this looks SO amazing !!
Thank you so much! :)
Great project! Beautiful outcome.
Thank you so much!

I really like them! But I can definitely see them being a challenge. Glad you like the video :)
Great update. Glad the pond is still going strong!
Thank you! :)
Good job man I love it
Thank you so much!
Neem je de pomp er uit in de winter of kan deze blijven zitten als het diep genoeg zit?
Kan blijven zitten. Zit op ~80 cm diep

That’s a cool trick! Never heard of that before! But isn’t it harmful for the fish?
Hi, what size of pond liner did you use? And did you recommend?.

You need to Add Red Apple Snails if you want to control Algae. And also Algae eater fish like Swordtail, Siamese Algae Eater, and Mollies.
Thank you! But I don’t have an algae problem anymore! In about an hour my next video drops in which I show how the pond has done over the summer! :)

Yes that’s how it’s set up now! Thanks for confirming that’s the right way :)
Center pieces are essential in these types of ponds for the fish to act more naturally.
I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Are you recommending I add a center piece fish?
No more like a large rock .
Ah I see, I'll keep that in mind, but I'm not sure they actually need that. The lily and other plants create a few different sections in the pond serving a similar function.
@@CrunchyFern right. Keep it going 🫡
what pump do you use ?
Something small from superfish. One of those fountain pumps. Not sure which one.

goldfish are good for algae but they eat other plants as well, so as they get bigger you may run into some problems. cool pond though
Yeah I heard about that. We’ll see how it goes and hope they won’t cause too many problems haha
It's funny seeing people keep rainbow shiners. I catch them in the river here in Texas.
Lucky you! They’re beautiful 🤩
Hey brother. Does that pump run by electricity?
@@KaynDarkin yes, it’s plugged in in my shed which you can see behind the pond
@CrunchyFern oh thank you. I love your videos. Keep going bro
@ thank you! Happy to hear you enjoy my videos :)
5:14 wat to deep for colocasia
Yeah it feels too deep but the label on the pot said it should be fine up to 40cm deep, which is how deep it is now. Should I move it? Maybe to the big filter or intake bay?
what kind of fern is that?
There are two kinds. The one around the intakebay I unfortunately don’t know the name of and the one right side is a royal fern.
Cool shirt
Thanks! 🐸

Thanks for the feedback! The issue has been adressed and I no longer have any algae in the pond.
Clean the algae in the water fall where the water should flowing ....
It’s all clean 🧼
Build a filter
The pond has a filter! The intake bay functions as a pre filter and the top of the waterfall is a so called big filter.
