@ Yes, because it is not just legalizing drugs. The portuguese government actively cares for the drug using people in many different aspects. If you want to know more about it read about it.

I’ve been following this story since it came about. SEI ( Carnegie Mellon ) was right on my street and I was going to University of Pittsburgh. I’m pretty sure they are the ones that had a lot to do with busting the Silk Road.
Wow. Great video. Regardless of whether or not Ross money laundered/stole money, that was a massive punishment for something largely not his fault. Glad he is free now.
It's interesting hearing both sides of this story. I think both parties are wrong; Ross is a drug kingpin and should be in jail, but the corrupt prosecutor and government trying to exploit him for money should be too.
It is youtube itself suppressing, not removing, your comment. This is a common problem and can be fixed by asking the other person to sort the comments section by newest. That's how I'm able to see your comment and to that: Do you have a source showing he allowed hitmen to offer services on Silk Road? I don't believe that's true. If you need to link something, post in your description or community pages and then give us a notification.
@@Total-Wombat I'm only complaining about the specific statement by whoever this person is since I can't even find her mentioning her name. Anyway, I would love to believe that all the illegal stuff on Silk Road was "legit" weed only stuff but clearly it wasn't. This should not reflect on Ulbricht though and he should never have been arrested.
While it’s obvious this guy isn’t some saint, nor was the Silk Road some libertarian dream that some seem to think, it’s equally obvious that the state had it hard out on him. It’s almost like they were angry they couldn’t cover up their own incompetence and used him as a punching bag. I just hope he’s done enough time to hopefully not use this temporary fame to prop up another criminal enterprise 😅, that would not be a good look for Trump campaign.
Hello Libertarians! I for one agree with the sentiment that taxation is theft. But I think it is worth saying that until it is legally possible to "opt out" of our social contract, we should endeavor to pay our taxes legitimately. My hope is that the show of good faith can help freedom lovers everywhere see you as people who want society to be better and not a people who want society destroyed. This pardon addresses an old injustice done, good. I still don't want the silk road to come back any time soon.
I would like to pose a hypothetical. If some one kidnaps you forces you into a box and refuses to let you out but they give you a bowl of soup would you excepting the soup constitute a legally binding contract where you "consent" to this treatment in exchange for the soup? If no then why is the concept of a "social contract" any different? If yes then why is it a legally binding contract?
You will never be able to legally opt out of the social "contract", because it isn't a contract; it's extortion. You even said that "taxation is theft". The only way to eliminate this "social contract" is to end the state, and the only way to do this is through direct action, such as tax evasion, not voting and black markets. Ross Ulbricht did more to the libertarian moviment than the libertarian party.
@@Nuuump I guess I was less clear than I thought, I don't believe in the "society is a social contract" idea. I was more or less using the language of the left to present a libertarian idea in a palatable way. I'm still learning, but I recommend you try to learn this skill too.

Welcome Back!!!! we missed you.
looking fwd to this.
Thank you!! More to come!
Couldn’t have said it better myself! I’m so happy Ross is free and his mom’s nightmare is over.
since he got a full pardon, does that mean the US govt is going to give him back his btc?
We all know they won't
And mine!
Thank you. Never heard or read anything about the items that were left out of his trial.
I was very happy for Ross & family. Now free Roger Ver!
And Papa State is keeping his 18 billions in Bitcoins.
They spent in within minutes of taking it
I’m sure he had some hidden somewhere
Drugs should be legal regardless; the War on Drugs has failed not only in cost of taxpayer's dollars but also in lives.
I think that the US-officials who are responsible for drugs should take a look at how the portuguese government handles drugs.
@enki2958 Oh, yeah, it's different than legalization?

Since he got his pardon, can he sue the government for stealing his laptop and his personal information?
