Yes. They are a 90s boy band. Hence the name of the game Warframe 1999. On-Lyne is an in game group. Sung in the studio only by the writers of the song. So is only on an audio track with a picture of the singers/writers in costumes on the front. "Warframe 1999 Party Of Your Lifetime". The game is basically a space shanty or war RPG game with lots of good and bad aliens. The main characters are human. Voiceplay's Sleeping In The Cold Below video is also from Warframe. They saw it and was so impressed they asked them to do this one for the release of Warframe 1999. Both went public Dec 13th.
Dude even the aliens are humans just evolved or corrupted, the only actual aliens in it are the Man in the Wall and Sentients because the Sentients were AI constructs created by man.
So On-Lyne is a boy band who are hugely famous in the alternate pocket dimension where Warframe's 1999 expansion takes place, and who get infected with this alien techno-virus that spreads by way of the pizza (I am given to understand it's a primitive predecessor to a contagion that features prominently in the futuristic main game) and will eventually transform into hideous mutated monstrosities if not cured. I don't play the game either and don't know whether there's any hope for them, but this is apparently a very early stage in the infection/transformation. I've seen a number of people comment on how closely the guys from VP correspond to their On-Lyne counterparts even without the costumes and makeup, which is always fun.
On-Lyne did not get infected, they were cloned and the clones were the infection, the Techrot keeps cloning them to assert their dominance over the masses they seek to consume.
This song is so catchy, it gets stuck in your head for DAYS 😂🙈 As a girl, that grew up in the 90s, I think they got the "boyband vibe" just great, but they are A LOT BETTER than the bands back in the 90s 😂🙈 And Eli doing frikkin' metal screams, I need more of that 🙏🏼 During the live premiere of this, someone said that she is excited for the smooth dance moves and I think it was Geoff, that answered: "Define smooth" 😂😂😂 I rolled on the floor after that answer 🫣 Thanks for your reaction Zack 🫶🏻
On-lyne is a fictional boyband in the pocket dimension of Warframe's 1999 expansion. They were infected with techno-rot, a slightly different take on the contagion that features in the main game, and gradually become hideous mutated monsters. When VoicePlay's makeup was being done, they specifically got pieces that invoked the fully corrupted versions of the band. (They showed it off in the BTS but you can find the concept art for the game online and look for yourself.) I love that kind of detail work. Also, VP was an active group in 1999 under their previous name of Four:2:5. They definitely have an idea of what that 90's boyband vibe is.
They must have had such a blast making this 😉. I think Layne arranged this one - hence "Geoff having to do Geoff things"! You're right, Layne did work his backside of in this one. Makes me want them to cover an actual boyband song... just to see what they come up with!! ⚘️🕊
This song was done by Warframe in the original 1999 but they were so pleased with what VP did in Sleeping in the Cold Below so they opted to make the 1999-upgrade and they got VoicePlay to do this song.
An absolute masterpiece! Layne’s beatboxing is phenomenal, driving the song with precision and energy that adds so much texture to the performance. Eli’s rock scream? Pure perfection-raw, electrifying, and unforgettable. And can we talk about how on-point the makeup is? It perfectly matches the vibe of the song and adds that extra layer of theatricality that makes this cover stand out. The harmonies, visuals, and individual talents all come together to make this a performance worthy of endless replays!
Thanks for another VoicePlay reaction! I'm not a gamer either, but love their video game tunes. So cool that the Warframe developers sponsored them to do this one but allowed VoicePlay to arrange and do it their way and film at Pattycake.
The actual artists singing the orig are no one that you’ve heard of. But if you google for an image of the band, you may find at least one is familiar looking. I swear the artist deliberately modeled one after Geoff. DJ isn’t as good of a copy, but it does remind me of Layne. Eli’s character is Asian and has hair, but still kinda looks like him. Geoff carried the lead on the first song they did from Warframe though - I suspect they looked at him closer because of that. This followed the original fairly closely, but VoicePlay rocked it way harder. They make the orig feel lifeless.
I found a Warframe fandom page that had some imagery from the game. They dressed pretty closely to the way the characters are portrayed on that page and there’s a description of each of the characters. Layne is portraying Hard Drive, the jock of the group who is strong but sensitive (but J may not agree🥕). Geoff is portraying Zeke who is both selfless and stylish. Appropriately, the character that Cesar is portraying is Drillbit and is considered the heart of the group. Eli is Packet, the best tech whiz. Omar, as guest, got the plum assignment: DJ ROM the maestro and musical genius. (so appropriate since his real life band is called Epic Party Band!)
In my opinion, having listened to both official soundtrack and VoicePlay versions, VP knocks the official version out of the water. I think Warframe should have asked VP to do the full soundtrack, not just a promo cover.

Geoff doing Geoff things... like he always does. And every other one as well... 😂🎉❤

They did 'Boy Bands in 5 Minutes' which I can't rec enough.
@AuntieSingeA - yes I love that one - but I meant a full cover. It will be worth it just for the choreo 😄. ⚘️🕊

I still cannot decide who had more fun in this one, Layne or Eli. Both channeled their inner 90's boyban vibe.
Omar. 😊 He was into fronting that boy band like he was born for it.
Blows me away how versatile VP is. So impressed! Love this cover and sponsorship. Awesome!!

I had no idea yall were brothers
How cool ❤
Lol. He's not my familial brother. Just my bro.
@ ohhh 👍
I always want criss-cut fries after watching Layne in this video....Great to see you back, Zac!🧡
