This video was informative in suggesting what type of clothing would be suitable when enjoying bushcraft and other outdoor pursuits, you need knowledge in choosing the right kind of clothing and I think Lilly has demonstrated that. Skills are the proficiencies developed through training or experience, so being outdoors practicing bushcraft and survival teaches you skills one needs to survive which includes choosing the correct type of clothing and knowing how to get the most from it, especially in cold environments where you can die very quickly through hypothermia if not dressed correctly.

What I enjoy about your videos is there is nothing pretentious yo go right back to basics and explain things well. Many so called survivalists seem to make videos and forget they are supposed to be teaching novices. You take the time to explain the the start to finish on surviving not just the macho stuff. ONE THING PEOPLE OFTEN FAIL TO THINK ABOUT - A GOOD PAIR OF HIGH BOOTS ! The "fashion trend" for boots these days seems to be the "hiking" type with about a 6" height. This is fine for hiking on prepared paths, or on low grassy terrain, or in the dessert. HOWEVER, wherever poisonous snakes are a threat, you should wear KNEE-HIGH snake bite proof boots. This includes terrain with brush and tall grass, where snakes can easily hide. ALSO A GOOD IDEA: some kind of "walking stick", to push aside and probe tall grass / plants before walking through. Pushing through with your hands leaves you open to a bite, and also exposes your hands to poisonous plants.

A good thought but the reality is a bit different -
In Australia, snakes are most active during Summer where daily temperatures easily get up around 30 C (and higher). Your knee high boots aren't going to be very practical here - hot, sweaty, restricting movement and uncomfortable.
Also, snakes don't just lie in the bush waiting to bite humans. They're generally very timid creatures and will do their best to get away from you in most encounters.
Please stop demonising snakes - remember that when we walk in the bush, we're in their environment and they deserve our respect, not fear.
Boots should be selected for the task at hand; I bushwalk a couple of times each week and wear a general purpose boot. My boots are leather Scarpa GTX's and they finish just above my ankles. I've worn them in 40 degree heat, in heavy bush, desert country and even on a glacier at 1800m where they performed amazingly well.
Even still I find they are hot, bulky and disconnect me from the environment. I'll often wear a hiking shoe which is more like a runner and gives me much better feeling underfoot. To avoid poisonous plants I educate myself as to what I am looking at, and open my eyes, breathe and be a part of the environment.

Well, fair question, but she did say "last resort". That means she have several options to make fire, probably both in her bags and on hear cloths.
In my experience, the last resorts always look kind of flimsy and small, but IF it comes down to it, well something is better than nothing. Again, it was a last resort added. She could easily chosen to not add it and rely on her other tools and extensive general fire making skills.
Could be that having 1 single stick is kind of symbolic as last resort... So if you carry 3-4 other fire making tools in your bag and your person already, what does it matter that this tiny plastic bag had only 1?

So i would take at least 10 of those match sticks, because when you are wet with cold water, all you want is make fire, and sometimes you are trembling alot due the cold. So, hope to make fire with bow and drill maybe is not the best option when you are psychologically shaken, without patience and dying of cold.

For the under garments, you mentioned cotton is not the best. I agree. On a biking trip through Canada, I discovered Merino wool under garments: they are fantastic! I won't mention a brand name, but another benefit is they resist body odor. Important if you are out in nature!

Biggest mistake I ever made was lighting a cigarette with one of the weatherproof ones, soooo painful.
One match and then a wind blows from nowhere. Poof! No fire..Make it 2,3,4,5,6 atleast...:(( Or a firestarter, it's waterproof.

I can never see the logic in carrying matches, when a lighter is so small and can light about 200 times. It will also dry out if it gets wet.

If you consider she wears what would be a winter coat in the American Midwest and consider how cold it would be, a lighter would have trouble if it was anything powered by butane. I haven’t tried zippo lighters in the cold but those and kerosene trench lighters may be the only option. Another reason to carry a match is guaranteed flame. I ferro rod doesn’t even give you that if you can’t find dry tinder

Merino wool makes an amazing base-layer/underwear for summer and winter. It's incredibly soft and not itchy at all like normal wool.

Also do you have a tent or do you prefer to open camp. I know sleeping bags, tents and hamocks are great feed bags for bears and other vermon. I still find them comfortable, I bought a fleece sleeping bag liner for my military sleep system, can't wait to try it out. It mite make a good lite waight liner for your wool blanket bag.
Good point. You must have wild boar and bears in those mountains as well. Can you open carry pistols in you country? Here in Ohio (U.S.) camping here in farm country are a lot of cyo's hear, so its wise to have a hand gun, I take my alaskan grey wolf (pet) with me in the woods animals smell him and stay away. I like were you camp open woods we have a lot of thickets here, mite as well be in the amazon jungle its slow moving here. Theres lots of woods and streams still most places you have to chop thru. This year was the worst I've seen for biting bugs, like your overnite camp video. I like your videos you explain every thing in detail keep up the good work.

I like Lilly’s channel because she clearly has used and experienced the things she is talking about. I have had extensive experience and training in bushcraft and survival. I’m also an avid camper. My youth was spent camping every time I got the chance. After that, I spent years receiving training and then putting it into use.
Also, her knife is well thought out by a person that has used knives a lot. The Only thing I would have done differently would have made it available in at least 2 steels. AUS8a And 5160. But Probably also in 1095, and possibly one of the super steels, At least VG10. But I do love her knife.
And her clothing choices are appropriate too. It is obvious, to me, that they come From experience.
And I do think Lilly is nice looking. That never hurts.

Problem with so many pockets in pants, is people may be tempted to use them all. I find belts and back packs are better then loading up your pockets.

If you can't afford all this wonderful stuff, invest in good shoes and Smartwool socks. Get the rest at Army Surplus and thrift shops.

PCLHH it's actually money saved, if you use such shoes instead of brand ones. they only last 1-2 years and are expensive because of the brand. such shoes last much longer and save you money in the long run.

+Ellis Dee Agreed, but for a couple of specific recommendations... If you can afford a $400 knife, get a custom Echo 5 from Dogwood Knives. You'll have to wait 30-60 days for it, but it will not only be worth the wait, but it will probably be the best knife you ever own and it will last a lifetime. If you need a knife more in the $200 range, I recommend the Steel Will Gecko 1500. If you just google it and look at it, you'll see why. Another good $200 knife is the Spyderco Bushcraft, but imho the Steel Will is nicer. If you can afford a little more, but not quite $400, the Fallkniven Idun is my first pick for $300 bushcraft knives. That's enough to get you going in the right direction.
Like you do, always have the best breathing clothes as the first layer, that way you can sweat and the skin can breathe so you don't get wet and cold. (e.g.. T-shirt is a no-no) I learned it the hard way in the Finnish army :)
You mean a cotton t-shirt? What should we wear?
@@seth9577 Yea, a basic cotton t shirt is pretty bad as a first layer as it gets wet from sweat, I would use merino wool or some other soft wool layer on my skin to give warmth while not catching moisture, then the cotton t shirt (etc) layer over that to capture that moisture and propagate it outwards (Yea I know it sounds weird if you have never tried it).
Then if it's winter, another thicker wool layer and at last a wind proof outer layer :) That is the way it was tought to me in the Finnish army :) The same with all clothes including socks (wool socks under the cotton ones in winter)

Talk about your girls mine can skin a dear throw a knife to the groin area and do some fine carving been teaching her since we went camping my first fire with her was bow and drill. You want a girl like lilly you take your time and teach them. Thats my requirement otherwise i wont date them... Even though now i am engaged still survival is for everyone not just men. I live in the neighbor country, we have same climate and forests. But I see no one mosquito on your videos. For example I can't walk in forest in T-shirt or with no covered body, because I will be immediately eaten alive by mosquitoes.

I usually wear a shemagh or sarong as well, they're just so versatile and handy. Can be worn around the neck or head in the cold, can be shaped into a hood to keep the sun off your face, can be worn over the shoulders (again in the cold) or just worn around the waist if it's too hot to wear it anywhere else. Also serves a variety of other functions; sling, bag, towel, bandage, tablecloth/work surface, camouflage, etc.

Layers are a good idea always, if your caught out in a storm or a drop in temperature, you have something to fall back on.

In my experience you get what you pay for. Saying that I personally go for wool clothing, it sounds hot but when it comes to pants you can't go wrong. Outdoor clothing when it comes to wool has come a long way and some of the better stuff is using high quality wools that don't itch.
