wow, I love how Cliff started his speech at the end of the match, it shows his strong character. Kane I think was 20 years old and you can tell that he was really angry but also confident. I would like to see more matches between these two players. How long did it take to Kane to beat Cliff? Cliff was 36 years old in this video, right? impressive level of racquetball and strong mentality Cliff
Kane didn’t suck that day like he said he did. He played incredible racquetball. If you have the serve and are up 9-6 and lose the game as Kane did in that second game, you simply are playing a better player that day. Cliff made less mistakes, was more focused and didn’t react to bad calls if any were made by the referee.
Agree 100% on your comments - Also, its obvious at the time Kane was very young and immature as in being a true "professional" you never blame the referee for your defeat. As much as it hurts to admit it, you have to give credit where credit is due!
Kane is so great because he is talented and because he really wants it. He's giving it 150%, where most guys are giving 95 to 115%. He just wants it more. Some of the new guys coming up have the talent, but will they do whatever it takes to be truly the best?
A person's true colors come out on the court. Cliff has always been a class act. Kane was the most arrogant puke to ever walk the earth. I think he's humbled with age--but he might have ruined the sport. Who would want to play him? No doubt he's the best in history. Wish Cliff and Sudsy were in their prime now to give him competition.
Now-a-days Kane would have made most of those backhands rollouts....Kane's a lot better, a lot more mature, a lot better sportsman than he was during this match. Most all of us grow up. Cliff was the best at the time........ but the two at their prime? Kane wins every time.
So nice to see Cliff Swain whip Weselenchuk's ass. He seems like a disrespectful punk. The only reason he even wins tournaments after this is because a lot of the "greats" of racquetball are now retired and racquetball as a sport has fizzled out. There is no longer a pool of great players to compete unfortunately.
CWolf20 Outoftouch67’s dribble is not only patently untrue, it’s absolutely laughable, disrespectful, and it may be the most ridiculous “ non factual “ opinion of one of the greatest if not the greatest racquetball players of all time. Just a few of Mr. Cains accolades for those ignorant few! The rest already know.. Outoftouch67...please pay special attention to #4 1. Cain has won 118 IRT through 2019 (Cliff Swain 71) Cain 47 more. 2. Cain 15 US opens (Sudsy Monchik is a distant second with 5). 3. Between January 2009 and September 2013 Cain went undefeated (only losing via injury defaults). 4. In the 2004 US open, (which was around 2 years after this loss,) a very angry Cain remembering that loss, took your player Swain and shall we say decimated the lad, 11-1, 11-3, 11,0. That’s fucking right, 4 total points and a donut 🍩 on the 3rd game, (first time in history a player held a player scoreless). 5. 2008-2009 season, Cain went 49-1, losing to the legendary Alvaro Beltran. 6. 2009- 2010 season, Cain wins 102 games losing only 3. 7. 2010-2011 season, Cain wins his 6th US open title against Beltran. He did lose a game in the the finals tho, (his first ever, also a record). My hand 🖐 is tired now from all this winning. You do know that you stand alone on an island 🌴 with your ignorance by now? You should apologize. However, if that thing called stubbornness won’t let you, I’ll understand.
@@marlonbrando9522 Again.. Tournament's use to have HUNDREDS of players back in the day.. went to one recently that had 28 players, lol. Almost laughable. There are just no good players anymore.. The game has been dead for over 25 years.. Lol. Wasn't Kane the one suspended for drugging it up while playing? Another Lance Armstrong.. Sorry pal, not buying your BS. You obviously have your head up Kane's ass, good for you. I'll stick to the true greats/pioneers of this game.. When racquets were not the size of cars and you actually had to control the ball.. Who's sad now? ☹️.
@@Airtouch67 Couple of points: It's widely known that he was suspended for recreational marijuana use, which absolutely is not a PED which you seem to be alluding to with your 'Lance Armstrong' comment. To imply that the size of the racquets has eliminated the need for control in today's game demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the sport at the pro level. The game has evolved drastically over the past few decades, especially being such a 'young' sport in comparison to many others. The style of play has changed & any player worth their salt from any era will agree with this. The number of players in tournaments 'back in the day' doesn't serve to mitigate how talented or dominant Kane is, nor does it take away from his nearly unanimous title of 'Greatest of all Time'. Not to mention, although Canada & USA have seen a drop off in participation & talent pools, Mexico & South America are thriving with dozens of exceptionally talented pro level players (that we know of), & likely dozens more that we don't because the incentive to travel & play professionally no longer exists. Jim Winterton himself - arguably the best coach the sport has ever seen - has stated that Kane is heads & tails the greatest ever, & has cited specific & quantifiable reasons as to why that is. He's been around for most eras & has seen the best of the best, so his perspective is better than almost anybody else on the planet. I have an immense appreciation for the pioneer/earlier eras as well, & would never question their skill level or talent. It's a debate that happens across all sports when trying to determine 'GOAT's, due to changes in strategy, technology, biomechanics etc., but Kane's numbers speak for themselves. You don't have to be a fan of his on-court attitude, but that doesn't detract from his ability or greatness in any way.
@@mitchellbrayley6955 Quit trying to blow off and make excuses for Kane (regarding the enhancing drugs/supplements).. the bottom line is he was suspended for TWO YEARS so obviously what he did was WRONG and unethical. He could have been on the juice all these years & just finally got caught. I hate when people justify bad behaviors. Again.. nobody really plays racquetball anymore. In the state I live, there is literally not ONE designated racquetball club anywhere. In the 70's and 80's we had over 200 of them. Stats speak for themselves... you can't bullshit me.
I miss this era of racquetball
You'd be a fool to think Kane was actually hurt. Only thing he deserves from this match is an Emmy.
It's amazing how much the game has changed.

I can't stand the time KW takes to serve. Bouncing the ball forever and all over.

Loving this new post!!!
20 years later, he finally loses to a 25 year old.

Cliff constantly bitches at the refs in literally every match I've seen. What kind of revisionist history is this? Kane was 21 years old here.
Absolutely agree... Cliff has always been a class act whereas Kane is just an arrogant prick (sorry, he just is).. he is not even a likeable person.

1.20 minute 3 gamer!
Wow Swain benefited from a lot of trash calls.
44:09 clearly short junk call.
a few between but 1:13:42 is an egregious call Kane surely could have got that ball and was not given the opportunity.
It's funny because now Kane gets the calls as the top dog but back then he had to fight through it to get to the top.
"That's the only way he can win this match!" he's not wrong he has been carried through the first 1:15:00 of this game by terrible calls :'D
