Pulp Fiction is a 1994 American black comedy crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, who conceived it with Roger Avary.[4] Starring John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, Tim Roth, Ving Rhames, and Uma Thurman, it tells several stories of criminal Los Angeles. The title refers to the pulp magazines and hardboiled crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and punchy dialogue.

FYI: Marvin was basically their inside man. Before Vincent and Jules enter the apartment building, they make reference to "our guy." Fearing what would happen, Marvin probably called Wallace and told him what apartment Brett was hiding out in.

After the movie's iconic dance scene, you see Vincent Vega and Mia Wallace walk into her house holding a trophy. The audience assumes they won the contest, but later in the film, a barely audible radio broadcast states the trophy had been stolen - meaning Vince and Mia lost the competition then stole the trophy!

    • @bobchandler7120
      @bobchandler7120 2 ปีที่แล้ว +81

Tarantino also says that there is a deleted scene that didn't make it in to the final cut that also supports the notion that they stole the trophy after losing the competition.

This is not true, it's a ridiculous fan theory which is completely ridiculous, and if it were part of the story, it would be terrible movie-making and terrible screenwriting. They won the trophy, and the ad in the alley simply says 'Special at Jack Rabbit Slims, (something or other) is (such and so price)...", it's just an ad.

In an interview shortly after the movie was released, Uma said she was terrified of the dance scene with Travolta because of his talent as a dancer. Travolta purposely toned it down to keep in line with his character Vincent. Uma was relieved. Travolta is legendary in movies as a dancer from "Grease" and "Saturday Night Fever".

Both Uma and Travolta were terrified. Only the night before filming the scene, Tarantino explained to them in detail what he's going for to ease the stress. For Uma, he wanted her to act like one of the dancing cats from "The Aristocats". So it was supposed to be playful instead of technically apt dancing.

I always liked to think that Vincent being in the bathroom at the restaurant was his "second chance" if you look at it from Jules point of view. He survived the same crazy miracle that Jules did, and Jules understood that you only get one of those. Next time something like that happened he would be dead. Vincent didnt see it that way, and he walked out of the bathroom into what couldve been a life or death situation, and he walked away alive ignorantly thinking that he could continue his lifestyle.
Jules got out of the life and got to see another day. Vincent on the otherhand once again found himself surprised by a man with a gun and his luck had run dry. His own gun at that. Vincent died because of his carelessness and arrogance. Shouldve got out while he had the chance.

You don't know how refreshing it is to watch someone actually laugh at the dark humor that Tarantino purposefully injects into all of his films. Most people today...the humor just goes right over their heads as they watch stone-faced. (So much so that when people see dark comedies, they state that "it's tonally all over the place" when in reality, it's just them). What an absolute treat to watch someone enjoy this movie for what it was supposed to be back in 1994. Awesome reaction video!

About the conversational script- THIS is the movie that revolutionized movie dialogue and made it feel like actual conversation. No one had ever had two hit men talking about foot massages on the way up to do a job. I'm sure all of us has had a fantastic day hanging out with a friend when the conversation really didn't extend much deeper than gym bags and donuts.
Also, really good job picking up on Mia confusing the heroin for coke. Remember back at Lance's where Vince got the dope, Lance was out of balloons and had to sell the H in a baggie. And that was five-dollar milkshake dripping from her mouth when she was OD'ing.

The BEGINNING of the story was Vincent and Juelz showing up to get the case and murder Brad's crew. Juelz witnesses divine intervention, and decides it was a miracle.
They leave, 'accidentally' blow off Marvin's head, meet Jimmy and meet 'The Wolf', and the Wolf helps them clean the car and dispose of the body, car, and evidence. Then Juelz and Vincent go for breakfast.
The MIDDLE is the diner scene, (before Juelz retires, and before Vince met Butch, and took Mia on a date). This is where Juelz decides to retire for sure and let 'Ringo and Honey Bunny' go.
Then they leave to go to Marcellus' club/ bar. They show up to deliver the Case(which is the missing jewels from the Reservoir Dogs heist) to Marcellus. Juelz tells Marcellus he is done, Vincent is upset with Juelz decision, and then he meets Butch, buying Red Apples (After we learn Butch is supposed to take a fall in a boxing match) and instantly Vincent had a problem with Butch. This is after Marcellus and Butch make the deal, so Marcellus calls Vincent over to cool the situation (because Vincent kills people lol).
Marcellus leaves, Juelz and Vincent go on their separate ways, and Butch sets up his bets, then Vincent has his date with Mia, and all hell broke loose.
The next day is the fight, and the END of the story is towards the middle of the movie (when Bruce Willis leaves on the chopper with his girl)...
'Vince is dead, after him and Juelz cleaned up Marvin, and then he met Butch at the club before Butch's fight... after the fight Mia thanked Vincent for dinner. The diner scene/robbery already happened. And Juelz was retired, so Marcellus went with Vince to Butch's apartment. Marcellus was hungry and Vincent had to shit. Marcellus left to get breakfast, Butch then showed up while Vince was taking the Browns to the Superbowl. That's why Butch came across Marcellus, right after shooting Vincent, and their whole interaction happened "MotherF*ker". Marcellus had been waiting on him all morning, and didn't think he'd show up there. So he couldn't believe when Butch pulled up at a stop light, while he was holding doughnuts. Then all hell brakes loose again, Butch ended up saving Marcellus, and Marcellus decides to let Butch go. Butch takes Zed's chopper, went and picked up his girl, and rode off in the sunset to get his fortune...
    THE END

I will go out of my way to watch this film with anyone who is viewing it for the first time. To this day, it is completely in a category of its own…and nothing that has come out since (including the countless copycat films) comes close to combining so many different things in brash and subtle ways…to deliver the most entertaining movie…which can be watched over and over.
I suggest going down the early Tarantino and Miramax rabbit hole.
Killing Zoe is a film by the co-writer of Pulp Fiction, Roger Avery. Four Rooms stars Tim Roth (Pumpkin from the diner scenes) and is four separate stories in a hotel on New Year’s Eve…Tarantino’s contribution is absolutely amazing.
Then you have Robert Rodriguez’s Desperado with a young Antonio Banderas. Dusk Til Dawn is a team up between Tarantino and Rodriguez that is loads of fun.
To answer your question, Vincent is disrespectful to Butch because he is taking a dive in a fight…which for some reason is against Vincent’s hit man on heroin moral code.
Note that ‘someone’ keyed Vincent’s vintage Malibu… the inference being Butch was the vandal.
I assume you have seen or heard of reservoir dogs or true romance…also more of Tarantino’s genius on display.

It was stolen some time later, and later still, some random guy bought it (presumably off the thief) and spent a BUNCH of money restoring it to mint condition. Random guy out driving, showing off his pride and joy gets pulled over by the cops, and told he's driving a stolen car. 0:56 No one robs restaurants because it takes too long and customers are constantly coming and going. Not what you need having people walk in the middle of your robbery.

i'm late but i only just discovered your channel with interstellar lol. please do the hateful eight! amazing dialogue, camera work, & story. truly a masterpiece and probably tarantinos best work next to pulp fiction. the plaster/band aid was to cover a pretty ugly scar that ving had, so the makeup crew covered it to avoid the audience being distracted by it. also, you do not go to a doctor or hospital after directly shooting anything into your brain, hence lance.

It’s crazy seeing how hard it was for you to get Thru the needle scene, bc I’m the same exact way. Good to know I’m not alone!

This is Tarantino at his best
    Master of long dialogue
    Lover of feet
Disjointed story that connect to each other
Also if you are wondering what was instead the case well there is the simple thing that it is a cold bar. But if you know that Tarantino loves to have multiple meanings in his films and Pulp Fiction had several meanings including the suitcase that had the combo of 666 and also Wallace's bandage behind his neck that has meaning and the biggest thing is that inside that case is Wallace's soul.

A side effect of using opiates like heroin can cause constipation. Hence why Vince is on the toilet so much in this movie.

Fun fact: they didn't win the dance competition. They stole the trophy. You can hear it on the radio later.

Arianna, I spent 41 days in the hospital in 2001 after a stroke. I had 3 blood draws a day for 41 days. By the last week or so, for the 4am blood draw, the nurse would quietly wake me up, I'd stick my arm out and I was asleep before the needle was in and I woke up with a band-aid and cotton ball on my arm. They never really bothered me much to begin with, but, I learned to just not think about it and not anticipate the pressure and feeling of the needle. Just don't "wait" for it to hurt. Think about your grocery list or or a movie, anything to take your mind off what it might feel like. Small talk works too. Just tell the Tech some bullshit story about how Albert Broccoli, the guy who produced the old Bond films, his family made their fortune by inventing broccoli.

I read that QT had a set number of films that he would make… but doesn’t think that Kill Bill is done.
I was thinking it would be cool if Jules ended up helping them out in that one as part of the penance he is doing.

Although not Tarantino directed, I definitely think Natural Born Killers should be on the list for a watch and reaction... without Tarantino writing and selling the script, this film would not have been made when it was...

This movie had everyone loving it. 94 was a great year for movies and music. And I can personally attest to the mistaken dope for coke. I did that ONE time years ago....the only reason I believe I am alive is because I'm 6'2 and over 200lbs. No doubt in my mind.
