    • @TheZerech
      @TheZerech 8 ปีที่แล้ว +143

      They had plans to make the only Ukrainian Habsburg King of Ukraine and he almost did but bad luck and German worries kept that from happening. If he was King it wouldn't look to bad for the Austrians to hand off Galicia though considering that the Ukrainians were the the most loyal peoples of the Empire behind the Germans themselves, they might not want to throw off the population balance,

    • @Fancypants117
      @Fancypants117 8 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      also the fact that the Germans pretty much had to prop up the Austrians to whole war, after losing several million troops to serbia and Russia
      I think they lost something like something like 500,000 men on the first push into Serbia because of backwards tactical thinking?
      Either way they may have been compensated with some colonial territories in africa or something

      So true, diversity is not strength, Austria-Hungary was doomed from the start even if they would win the war it is highly unlikely that they would survive in their 1914 form.

    Why did Germany want Georgia you might ask.. well, it was to launch an invasion into central asia and liberate Persia, Afghanistan, and India. India was the most important, as it would cripple the british empire to lose it.
    Germany invited Mexico to be a part of the war; mainly to keep american troops away from Europe. This invitation was sent by radio, and americans intercepted it and confronted Mexico who claimed their plan was to decline the offer - this invitation played a role in americas subsequent involvement in the war, which otherwise might not have happened until the early 1920's, or not at all.

      Why would Germany risk angering America further by contacting Mexico, of all places, to hold off America? And why not send a diplomat? Exactly! And the British happened to intercept the note? What does Germany have to gain from Mexico attempting to hold off the US? What does Mexico have to gain? Why would Germany consider this a good Idea at all?

      Austria-Hungary has low stability and can't conquer much, plus they got carried by Bulgaria and Germany
      The same thing with the Ottomans but they were a lot weaker
      And Bulgaria was still recovering from the Second Balkan War
      Also, it is almost impossible to imagine a Bulgarian Malaya or an Austro-Hungarian Indochina, so Germany would've taken them

      After the Balkan wars and that all its allies betrayed Bulgaria resultet in super mobilazing and Bulgaria was more than hungry to just kill everyone in the Balkans, so it's alliance with Germans was really welcomed. At the times Bulgaria mobilize to a point where they had more tanks than ottoman turks and greeks combined and have the biggest army % per available person in the world at the time(Bassicaly every single men in the country was mobilazed and every women as well(beeing nurses)). Austro-Hungarian empire was about to fall, aswell as ottoman empire. If central powers won this war, more than likely Bulgaria would attack again and again, as the main goal was to achieve the ethnic borders of Bulgaria: i.ytimg.com/vi/AWcAptOxoEM/hqdefault.jpg
      but im sure if we had a chance we could have tried to attack Constantipole since we have done it many times before within the first and second Bulgarian Empire. This IS alternate history. The war aim discussion was never finished in Germany. For example there were three big German concepts for the Polish "Grenzstreifen". It also included the option to annex nothing in Russian Poland. Some of the concepts aimed on a realization at war, which never happened. The other areas in Eastern Europe and as well in Western Europe were similar problematic. It is also highly controversial among historians, which aims would have been realized in the case of victory for the Central Powers. Sry, but this video presents an assertion. I like almost all of your other videos and your channel, but in this case I have to give a TD.

    What I think:
    • Germany annexes Luxembourg, the French region of Briey-Longwy, and the Belgian region of Luxembourg in the West, while also annexing the Polish Border Strip in the East. Despite German ambitions, I think Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania would still emerge as Republics like IOTL, but would still be German clients nonetheless. Belgium would also be a German client.
    • Austria-Hungary would occupy Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, and also the Italian region of Veneto. In the aftermath of the war, the country would decentralize and federalize into the United States of Greater Austria (or something to that effect.) The best way to describe how it would operate would be like the USA under the Articles of Confederation; each ethnic group within the country would have their own province almost completely autonomous in every way, with their own heads of state and their own state governments. Austrian Emperor Charles I would still reign over Austria, Bohemia, Galicia-Lodomeria and Bukovina. Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, North Epirus and Veneto would become new members of the USGA in addition to Slovakia, Transylvania, Hungary, Bosnia, Croatia, and Slovenia (besides Austria, Bohemia, etc.)
    • I agree with Bulgaria, I don’t think anything would change from how you put it.
    • I think the Ottomans would also occupy Libya in addition to everything else you put. And maybe also help prop up independent nations in the Russian Stan’s.
    • Besides Russia, I think France could also fall into civil war. Germany would sponsor whatever faction would best serve them, and also have Italy help them. Italy would be rewarded with Savoy, Nice, and Corsica as compensation for losing Veneto. The German-sponsored faction in France eventually wins, and France joins Mitteleuropa. Russia is still taken over by the Soviets, though Soviet Russia ITTL is much smaller, akin to modern-day Russia’s borders. Rather than become the Soviet Union, it’s just called the Russian Soviet Republic.
    • Once borders are finalized, Germany founds the Mitteleuropa organization. The first members to join alongside them are: Belgium, Denmark, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Ukraine, and some members of the USGA. Germany eventually plans for all of Europe to be a part of it.
    • Tensions eventually erupt between Germany and Greater Austria because Germany despises Austria’s federal system of government. Germany declares war on them alongside Italy, Poland, Ukraine, Romania, and Greece. Several USGA regions secede, refusing to fight. Italy annexes Veneto (which includes Trentino and Istria,) Germany annexes Austria and the Sudetenland (which both join together as the Kingdom of Austria, a member state of the German Empire,) Poland annexes West Galicia, Ukraine annexes East Galicia, Romania annexes Bukovina and Transylvania, and Greece annexes North Epirus. Albania, Hungary, Slovakia and Czechia gain independence. Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, and Slovenia unite together to form Yugoslavia.

      That's probably the biggest downside of Central Powers victory. Unstable Europe. I mean, even in our timeline, it was unstable. But during the war, there was tensions between Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey and Bulgaria. While I think Karl I would do anything to prevent another war, I don't Kaiser Wilhelm would wage another war especially after losing 2.5m people. But there's still tensions between Bulgaria and Turkey. Likely would start another war since both Enver Pasha and Tsar Ferdinand were warmongers, always wanting more. But it wouldn't be a world war.

      @morsecode980 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mohdadeeb1829 Something like the League of Nations would likely still be founded even in a CP-victory timeline. Plus Germany would use Mitteleuropa to turn pretty much all of Europe against whoever might challenge them. Basically mass-deterrence.
      Would there be a WW2? No idea, possibly but depends.

      If this had happened we probably wouldn't have seen the massive purge of Polish peoples by the nazis and by the Russians in WW2, since it's argued that WW2 wouldn't have even happened if it wasn't for the bad peace treaty the French pushed at the end of WW1
      Which inflated and then crashed the world market and caused a massive global economic depression that gave Hitler a means to rise to power

    WW 1 was a major European blunder. It is often blamed on the Germans and Austrians, but the reality is very different. If one looks at the industrial output of Germany and then compares it with the dwindling output of Great Britain that had started the 'Industrial Revolution', one will see that there was an economic reason for the war. There was also a revanchist reason: nationalism was festering among the smaller peoples of Europe, many of whom wanted their own state. The larger states wanted to 'rectify' the borders by regaining territory they had lost in previous wars.
    Anyway, once WW 1 was over, large economic units were broken up and replaced by smaller units that had difficulty surviving. And instead of becoming better for all, a post-war Europe contained the same kinds of petty nonsense that the pre-war Europe had had: Czechoslovakia: 6 million Czech speakers, 2 million Slovak speakers, 3 million German speakers, and several other ethnic groups including Hungarians, Poles, Rusyns, Jews (considered as a separate ethnic group, but most of them were German (not Yiddish) speakers. Look at all major and many minor countries and one will find a bewildering number of minority ethnic groups, often discriminated against by the dominant ethnic group in their own country.
    What we have nowadays is a EU of democracies with good laws protecting minority peoples. Had the European powers in 1900 decided to be reasonable, they might have saved millions of people from being murdered on the battlefields and in the bombardments and concentration camps of WW 1 and WW 2 and their aftermath.

    Good! I found you a few inaccuracies, which obviously spoil the impression of a good video.
    1) The border between Georgia and Turkey, Georgia and Armenia, Armenia and Turkey have been others. Turkey annexed the Lori region (which belonged to Georgia), so as to have a "corridor" to Azerbaijan, so the Georgian-Armenian border has disappeared.
    2) Armenia is not controlled Kars, Syunik and Nakhichevan. They were occupied by the Turks.
    3) North Caucasian republics was a puppet of Turkey, although the Turks did not have time to go there.
    4) Ukraine, Belarus, Don, Kuban were client states of Germany.
    5) Georgia controlled territory of the Black Sea coast to Tuapse, because there the population has expressed reluctance to be part of any Russian.
    6) Germany is not annexed part of the Baltic. She was in reoganizovana puppets - The Baltic Duchy and Lithuanian kingdom.
    7) Romania was occupied by the Central Powers. This is not displayed.
    8) Finland has been an ally of Germany, but not shaded in light gray.
    9) Emirate of Jabal Shammar - turkish client-states.

    Knowing what I know about history during the 17th Century and earlier, it's no wonder that the similar tactic of creating puppet states is used here, as many of the Central Powers were born or came to prominence during this chaotic time and still operated out of that mindset. The Allies, of course, also sort of had 'puppet states,' but referred to them as 'mandates.' But the Allies were more colonial than the Central Powers who were mainly just looking to pop up allies in Europe and spread influence there. It would be very interesting to see how the world would have been shaped by a Central Powers victory; perhaps history would have slowed down a bit and nuclear weapons not invented?

  • @CarthagoMike

    one nitpick though:
    If you'd follow history based on 1914 documents and earlier, then you should have included Italy. Back in 1914 and early 1915 Italy was negotiating with both powerblocks, and only (or wel, mainly, the story is a bit more complicated) chose for the T'ententre because the Germans reached a stalemate on the western front and the Austrian-Hungarian army was being slaughtered on the eastern front.
    This means that back in 1914, the scenario of Italy joining the Central Powers was a very realistic one, for which many political outcomes were put on paper.
