You have broken an important rule: You should not be more gorgeous than the bride.
Lol
Aw thanks :) but... you should’ve seen the bride 👰🏻😍
She will always be better looking than the Brides.
Alan Johnstone LoL thx
Absolutely right
@@VanessaJoy Most Welcome Vanessa
I love the business cards with the engagement photos. Great way to drive traffic!
I love the card-to-gallery idea. I think I will use that idea if you don't mind. Thank you for this video!
This was actually a far better What's in my wedding photography video than a lot of them that I have watched. I like how it was more here is how everything is actually set up than a list of what is brought. The here is how I actually dress, and the addition of an extra pair of shoes was a nice touch that most videos leave out. Its nice to see somethings that are brought that aren't specifically photography related.
Glad you like :)
Vanessa is intensely professional. Truly floored. Just Incredible.
I don´t think people realize how important this video could be for new wedding photographers, really good stuff in this channel, im subscribing right away, great work
Thank you!! And welcome :)
Thanks for the video. Even though I don't wear dresses I did find lots of good info, especially your methodical approach to using primes.
I use the 35mm and 85mm (two bodies) all the way up to the ceremony and then I'll switch to the 70-200mm f/2.8 (sometimes even for first look) and maybe the 24-70mm.
...and I'll pass the dress info along to others who can use it.
Wow, you just highlighted how much gear and stuff to keep track of. Stuff stuff stuff, hustle hustle hustle things to do, things to remember, schedules to keep, think fast, move move move, I am exhausted watching this video and it brings back how tired we are at the end of the day and packing up and did I remember everything and going over in my head what went well, what could have been better and then I am looking forward to working with shots over the next week. Best hard work I love doing, especially when it all goes well. And you are doing so many cool little extras. You are inspiring and making this look easy. I know it's hard work. How much help do you have on a shoot.
Haha stuff and hustle for sure! I have one assistant who is the true rockstar of the day for sure
This was such a great video. Very informative, enjoyable to watch...You have a very positive presence. I Would love to watch a full day wedding event by you, with all the behind the scenes stuff and technical/gear talk
that is definitely a goal... lol we actually had it scheduled for filming in May, the couple agreed to it and everything... and then COVID happened... :-(
Vanessa Joy I know, this pandemic sucks. It creates a holdup for everything. My plan was to get into wedding photography ( as a second shooter for now) and set it as my main income in the next 2-3 years. Now it is postponed unfortunately. But anyway Best wishes for you 😊
paweL Pawlowski same to you!
@@VanessaJoy yeah covid sucks it ruins everything. But that video would be cool and interesting.
I'm just an amateur slug photographer and would never do what you do, but I found this very interesting. Every bride's mother should watch this, and maybe they would appreciate all the work that goes into shooting a wedding. You really are expert at this.
Ha so true
I only take my 35,50,85 an 100 mm macro to weddings. I own a 70-200 mm f2.8 IS II but I don't like to carry it all day. And indoors it might not be 'fast' enough.
Thank you Vanessa Joy, these are some very helpful tips!
Glad you like!
Q: How much gear do you bring? Vanessa: Yes! 🤷🏼♀️😅
Honestly, I know photographers who will take only your back-up-bag all day, but you got a decent set!
Lots of useful tips and Inspiration here as well! Thanks!
And Vanessa has become my TH-cam mentor, when I need something and search I’d say 99% of the time is a Vanessa video helping me
This is so great! Thank you for showing us what you bring to a wedding. I always am afraid that we overpack but seeing your gear is really helpful!
You leave nothing to chance and think of everything ahead of time. It is clear how hard working and dedicated to your business you are. I don't think I've seen a photographer as professional as you, and your pictures I've seen from other videos speak volumes about your talent and skill.
I really appreciate you saying so!
Love the dress and the pearl necklace. Very classy!
Really interesting and appreciated Venessa, a proper photographer vid.
I am thoroughly impressed. You are both a great photographer and a marketing marvel. I have never wanted to shoot a wedding because of the stress and hassle involved. I am sure it's rewarding in many ways, but this just reaffirms my decision. Even so, I can appreciate your planning and professionalism. Thank you. And otraguardia is right. You do look fantastic in that black dress!
Ha yeah... the stress can be crazy
I love the idea of the bride and grooms photo on the business cards to pass out during the reception. I never thought of doing that.
Starting with your top versatile rigid case, it was an amazing video! Tks for sharing, great clicks 4u. See ya
I wish I could learn all of this. I’m new at it. 12 weddings so far but I’m boring. I shoot and have a flash for the reception. I edit at home. I love the idea of the mini accordion album!
Love the accordion album. I usually text same day edits but like this even better
I actually text them the same day edit pictures and send all of the pictures via Instagram to the vendors as well. There’s no end to what you can do. :)
Great video, full of good advice and experienced tips. The personalized business cards at each setting is a smart marketing technique.
Great video. I carry power bars and Advil in my kit too.
Wow! This is a lot of equipment and everything is very organized :-O It seems, that you are prepared for all situations! Very professional!
I have the 70/200 2.8 mark 3 , I love it
yayyyy
Respect to New Jersey Pro. Thumbs Up Ms. Joy!
Yassss NJ!!!
You have the passion of what you work with 👍
Loved watching this! Thanks Vanessa!
Wow! That's a lot of gear to hump around!!! Then i realised, I'm just as bad, if not more!! I suppose you don't notice so much when it's all staggered throughout the day and evening. Looking lovely by the way.
I've filmed about 200 weddings and I've never seen a photographer dress that well. Most of the time a photographer's outfit includes yoga pants. I'm very impressed.
Anyone wearing yoga pants to a formal event should be immediately kicked out. Especially if they're a "professional" hired to provide a service at said event.
OMG! Vertical smartphone video!
Great tips on how to market on the wedding day! Thanks Vanessa!
Glad u like!
Vanessa at it again with the fire!!!
Thanks so much for this video. This was super helpful. Gives me an idea of gear to get.
Wow! That's a lot of gear!
Yeah I have a problem lol
@@VanessaJoy you don't have a problem, you're a real photographer, that's what you are😁 real photographers carry gear
J Bello Aw why thank you 😊
@@VanessaJoy is it essential/necessary to bring all of that? I got anxious by just watching the video lol you should do a wedding! To see the process behind with the gear
Constanza Grgurina LoL I do use all of it. But I do have to show my updated gear haul soon
you got so many great ideas! I got an instant HP printer (for xmas) to use at wedding days. Can't wait to use it like you do! x
Truly love this useful video, such great information for photographers who are starting from someone who has great experience. Truly love the way that you dress for the wedding and how you blend in so perfectly. Thank you for sharing this with us !
Glad you enjoyed it!
OMG! such a useful video! ty!
A Joy to watch
I see what you did there 😉
Fun to see your gear list and glad to know I’m on a similar gear set up for weddings and now I’m not thinking maybe I have to much. I actually got me a little wagon for portrait shoots to help carry things like soft boxes, some gear and step stools etc. That’s something I wish I had gotten much sooner lol. Totally enjoy your videos 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Wow... youre amazing. I'm extremely enjoying your content!
Jeez! That's so much stuff! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Really like the insta photo idea going to use that
Do it!
Always nice to see your videos 🤩🤗. Will you be using R5/R6 in your future wedding shoots ?
Shooting my first wedding with the r5 this weekend :)
Vanessa Joy oh wow 🤩 that’s amazing. Looking forward to hear about that in your videos ☺️☺️👍
I really recomend you the line of tamron lenses V2, the 35mm f1.4 have a really good, semi macro capability, so you can do "macro" photos with that lens without carry a macro lens, the 45mm f1.8 is a really good lens the perfect nifty fifty, and the marvelous 70-200 V2 is a magnificent lens.
So this is what an actual pro looks like, haha.
Nice video Venessa. Is a nice chill watch,
Glad you like!
Excellent video. Very well thought out kit. I have to find the pics from the wedding.🔥💖
Very nice kit. I wanna be like Van!
Question: Why no 24-70 and also, thoughts on the Canon 600ex-ii rt vs Profoto A1. Why you prefer the A1?
vertical cell phone orientation for TH-cam kills all the joy in watching. they came up with the 16:9 a short while ago ... it works really well ;)
Read the description...
You are a real photographer... not just a girl and a camera 😉 you know all about gear... nothing can stop you
Appreciate your thought process.
Love the idea with the Instax prints! Do you have a link for the accordion folders on Adorama?
I don’t think they have them anymore 😞 I use Amazon
@@VanessaJoy Boo! That's why I couldn't find them!
Where do u get the Kawa strap ?? Love your videos !!!!!!!!!
I finally have an answer for you about my camera strap! creative-teacher-9768.ck.page/1fb5eeedd8 this will be VERY limited so lmk here if you want to know when it's available!
I want to know more about the dress! (You look gorgeous in it, by the way), but I've searched and can't find it. Thank you!
You look stunning. Also very creative marketing of your business.
This was a very helpful video. So how do you have time to shoot and process and not miss anything during any part of the event? I usually bring a lot of gear but not as much as you showed. I am always concerned about gear growing legs and walking off, especially things like my Mac or iPad. Thanks for sharing this ... very helpful!
I have a second photographer there :)
Really enjoyed this! Thanks so much for sharing everything!!
Thanks for the video! What is the name of the dress? where did you get it, link, please, I love it!
It was a beta brand dress and they don’t make it anymore. I was fortunate enough to buy two, but I wish I had bought five!
Actually search on Poshmark for “Betabrand no sweat cocktail dress”, there’s a few there!
Awesome video. Very interesting. Thank you.
My pleasure 😇
Lots of photographic equipments you got for wedding photography And is ok to have them if you got a Assistant to help you and if you don’t have one then is going to be difficult and making sure you don’t loose them
And that’s one of the many reasons why having an assistant with me on wedding day is one of the best investments I make ☺️
Hi Vanessa, for photography only. How many people do you bring as minimum in your team for a wedding when bringing your extra equipment? (second shooter, lighting assistant etc) thanks
I always have a second photographer (doesn't really help with gear) and an assistant (who only helps with gear and doesn't shoot)
Stunning beautiful❤❤❤
Good Video, while watching this during the airplane flying over you one flew over my house. Have a Good Weekend Vanessa.
Great video, thanks Vanessa. Don’t you use the Eos R for weddings...?
No I don’t. But I’m experimenting using the r5 this weekend at one
Vanessa Joy thanks 4 ur answer! Expecting to hear your sensations with the “new little beast” :-)
Yeah yeah yeah ! Vertical mode !
Now I got some idea. Very helpful vid. I Just subscribed!
So glad you liked it!
wow! Thanks for sharing. Have you considered a kit or alternatives to lightening up the load.. thats a lot of weight!
This is from two years ago, read the gear list in the description to see how I did just that :) and that’ll probably change again with mirrorless
Can you provide a link to the family list you mentioned? I didnt see it listed.
bit.ly/familyjoylist
BULLET PROOF, LARABAR & KAWA...SUBSCRIBED! 🍾
Hahaha nice
You bring your A-Game!!!
I don’t have a b-game 😉
Hard life for a hard-working girl. But I hope those energy bars sweeten it all.
Did I miss what you use inside reception halls for lights?
Bounce flash mostly :)
Way to much to do at weddings think I stick to peoples pets.............but given me a few ideas i can adopt .......top video again
Glad you got something from it :)
I wonder how it changed since you started using the 28-70 f2 lens 👀
Oh it sure did!!!
Originally I thought you might have purchased that black dress at the Hollies' Distant Light store. It's long and cool at that store. Hi Vanessa! :)
oh hi! I don't know that store :-)
@@VanessaJoy "Long Cool Woman (photographer) in a Black Dress" :)
Ron Speer lol 😂 got it now
A little slow on the uptake. 😉
Records of Light I mean it’s a ‘71 song... and I’m more of a Rolling Stones and Ram Jam fan 😉
Always joy to watch your videos. You looks beautiful though.
Thank you so much!
It's a shame TH-cam still does not support vertical videos for smartphones.... Thanks for the tour!
That would be a nice addition
Really informative video Vanessa, I had no idea so much gear was involved. You manage all this with just one assistant?
Yes I do!
Very interesting video and you look gorgeous
Thanks 😊
At what point in the wedding do you do the edit to print the images and give them to the couple?
During cocktail and throughout the reception when I have little moments :)
Would love to see a video of you in action using all that gear.
You looking fabulous
What's the strap you use? I have a 1ds mk3, so that would be ideal. Currently only have 24-105 but want to get a prime or portrait lens was thinking of the 100mm macro?
Very professional
Great video. Maybe only thing you don’t have is sensible shoes to support ur knees and hips etcfor the long haul
😂 you must not shop for women’s shoes much. There doesn’t exist such a thing that looks good too. If you find it do share!
definitely stealing that business card idea. Thats next level!
Go for it! Let me know how it works out
Why don't you shoot EOS R5 or 1DX mark III?
This is an older video. Will update once I decide which camera I want ultimately :)
@@VanessaJoy great! Look forward for your new video! But surprisingly you can handle 1DX camera for whole day shooting! How you did that?
Where did you get your Kawa strap?...
I finally have an answer for you about my camera strap! creative-teacher-9768.ck.page/1fb5eeedd8 this will be VERY limited so lmk here if you want to know when it's available!
What a lovely video. You're a very beautiful woman and fantastic photographer. Keep up the good job!
Last 6 weddings I shot, there was NO time for same day editing. Wedding to reception was
That definitely happens sometimes. I usually do it during toasts and then dancing since you really don’t need two photographers to cover those things
What lens do you use to shoot the ceremony ?
I love the 135 f/2
link to the dress please!
Do you still sell the far green country action
I have these instead now: presets.breatheyourpassion.com :)
Wow vanessa looking fantastic
thanks :-)
The ear plugs is a great idea.
Wow, that is a lot of stuff! And I thought I brought a lot of gear to the shelter, lol. I do believe I saw this before in Instagram? Thanks for showing us your gear. Maybe your husband should do a time lapse video of you all shooting the wedding. After an exhausting day you would probably get exhausted all over again watching it, :)
First of the all...the dress was very important. Pockets?! Gag!
For the life of me I can't find any oinformation on where to purchase that porter case - case. Did something happen to that company? Is there anything similar to this concept?
I think they went out of biz 😞
@@VanessaJoy bummer, I love that concept. Do you know of any other bag that can fill this void?
Appreciate the gear run through... real, detail, good stuff. By the way, how many roadies do you employ to help tote the gear?
Just one :)
