  • Schweizer G-164B Ag-Cat B+ from ERK Farms making his very first flights in Suriname after being fully restored by Hershey Flying Service.
Action from Zorg en Hoop airport (SMZO), Paramaribo, Suriname.
Not often that you see Ag-Cat's operating from paved runways :-)

Love the Agcats! My house back in the late 1970s was right next to a huge soybean farm in Tallulah, Louisiana. Whenever it got sprayed the 450hp and sometimes larger 600hp Agcats rattled my windows as they just cleared my roof during spraying runs. We would run outside to watch. My mother-in-law rest her soul liked it even more than I did if that's possible!

Thats so neat tho hear that other people have great memories of crop dusters flying over. My dad was a crop duster pilot for about 35 years. I took many rides on his lap and he would circle our house til we came outside to wave at him. He would pass so low and on his side that I could see his face and hands. We are also from Louisiana. We lived in Chataignier, which is very small right between Ville Platte and Eunice, La.

I learned to fly in 1968 and started flying spray in 85. I flew the geared 600 Agcat A model until 2016. Always enjoyed flying over and watching kids come out and wave just like I did in the early fifties when they used open cockpit Stearman biplanes and the pilots wore leather helmets and goggles. Very vivid in my memory.

You probably got to see Merle Gustafson fly up there. He was a ag pilot from Tallulah, also flew warbirds in air shows back in the day. There's a great old video of him here on TH-cam.
I too grew up watching crop dusters here in Central Louisiana, there was a air strip here on my grandparents place that got a lot of use by a pilot friend of ours...when ever I heard that radial engine I knew Mr Bill was coming in and I would run to watch him....great times!

@@tonyandrus6432 yes, saw Merle fly his Corsair and his T6 many, many times. I personally flew his T6 once.

@@charlesfoster141 years ago I got to visit Fantasy of Flight in Florida and got to put my hands on "Angel"...so sad she's not air worthy now and I fear if someone else doesn't get her she may never be..

Nice video. No stupid "Top Gun" music to ruin it. Just the music of a Pratt.

@@douglasrodrigues9329 Douglas the Jacobs have different valve rocker caps.
Ag Cats I remember 1964-1972 had Pratt & Whitney 1340s.
The man, Mr. Clifford Baker, I worked for used Thrush Commanders with P &W 1340s.
      This Ag Cat may be using a P & W R985, 450 HP.

Thank you for sharing. Your video brings me back to Hampton Iowa. KHPT, when Mom and Dad ran the airport business with two Ag Cats..

I recognized the registration number immediately as Surniame as my father flew down there in the '60s as PZ-TAP

The Twin Beech is buried somewhere in the Jungle after the pilot pulled the flaps instead of the gear on takeoff after my father left country..ugh....

Hershey flying service always did the best work on cats. As a Nebraska boy I was frequently going there for AG cat parts back in the day with my bosses. I was their mechanic.

I grew up on the farm and always love to watch these planes at work. At 25 gallons an hr. it get's expensive to run these radial P&Ws but damn they run so much better than the turbines LOL

    • @berniepfitzner487
      @berniepfitzner487 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The big turbine planes can use 100 gallons an hour but I think they get more acres done per hour and get more time before overhauls are due

Super B plus models are the best. The C model was a little too wild and under powered unless you had a king cat.
