Big 👍🏻I think making a video of you cutting firewood would be great. I love watching firewood cutting and splitting. It so relaxing. I'm not able to cut anymore 😢. I loved being out in the woods cutting firewood. I love the smells especially in the fall. And I always enjoyed lunch time in the woods also, and being with my dad . He's gone now and I miss it all❤
I was about 7 years old when the first Super M appeared in our area; I thought it was the most awesome looking tractor out there (until the S-MTA appeared). I own a 1948 Farmall H with a Hesler 9-spreed and it is a lot of fun to drive in our local parades here in NW Illinois. Keep up the good work and be safe.
Dad has a tricycle Super M they use for running augers, pulling empty gravity wagons around, and other small tasks. It used to be one of the main work horses on the farm when I was little. Used to pull a 10ft disk with it, loaded wagons ect. It's got power steering, hydraulics, and a canvas half cab (it covers each side, and helps direct the engine heat onto the operator).
Well how about that you were right that was lucky that the weld let go know before you completed the hood and put it in service ! The two tone manifold looks great, and you shouldn’t feel bad about trying to use a part that seems it’s fine because I can imagine how much that new manifold cost and how much the complete restoration and rebuild cost so nothing wrong with reusing a part that seems OK , so don’t worry about that I am quite sure everyone gets it!😀 . I can’t believe how much work you do! You always have a project going and that’s great! I love accomplishing as much as I can before the weather turns cold!
You and Senior do excellent work. As for the critics, number one, it's your show and number two, why don't they ever send pictures of their "perfect" project? I'm with you and Senior!
Baja Ha. If you didn’t spend so much money on your tractors you wouldn’t have to heat with firewood. I love what you do is fantastic. I am a city slicker I can’t do stuff like that
We enjoy watching the solutions to the problems as much as the stuff that just bolts back on. All these frustrating setbacks just increase the excitement about the rebuild.
Great video I like seeing a little of your outside work so we can appreciate all the work you do to make a nice place The wood is stacked with precision ! (You and your dad are a great example of how you should do things)
The only issues were easy to get to, you guys focused on the hard to get to and possibly disastrous internal aspects. What you guys did was like a remanufactured tractor and I bet it did not come out of the factory that good! Great fashion choice. I highlight painted a dull Generator engine one time, it was just too plain and unappealing Cummins brown for a fully exposed engine in the open Gen room and the V-1710 is a great looking engine.
I agree with the new manifold, especially with how nice you have her looking. Welding the pipe onto a cast iron manifold is a pain in the neck and at the other end of the spine as well.
This set-back only shows that no matter how careful you are, things happen. Your response was expected at least by me. Out with the old, in with the (as close to original as possible) new. I agree with the pinstriping. Thanks and Stay Safe.
The manifold swap is as much plug-and-play as we'll see on this channel. I'm glad you had a chance to step back from the equipment projects and catch up on outside chores.
Must admit the silver lookin the part 💪 even if it's mostly covered by tinwork the fact that a person knows what it looks like underneath keeps the soul happy 👍👍
Hey - at least you didn't have to take the trans cover back off! (LOL). Better to find it now than to be on your first pass plowing and then the pipe snaps and the muffler lands on the freshly painted hood like you said (that was my first thought before you even said it). That paint job on the manifold is sure fancy! I went with ceramic coating on the H. Never did have good luck with high heat paint (I have used VHT and also BBQ grill paint in the past). I'm sure it was applicator error! Ha ha. Looking real good!
When interstate 80 was put in near my home, my dad got hired as a cement finisher. His main job, as it turned out, was to go back over the concrete they laid yesterday and rub out the deer tracks. Those deer came at night and did the same dance as the ones in your field. 😎👍
Regardless of getting behind by two feet more than your forward one foot you're doing great you really are unfortunately somebody forgot to tell the deer Halloween had already passed
You have got to love those deer if anything of such splendor and beauty can get under your skin you have to love it keep up the good work I'm proud of you and I'm quite sure the deer are too
As setbacks usually go....I wouldn't even call it a setback. I'd say you're lucky you caught it before the sheetmetal laid down. You're going to have to prove to everyone you're going to use that M lol..... girls that are too pretty to dance ain't no fun! Ha.. looks better than new. Thanks for sharing
I just wanted to suggest putting the rear axles on jack stands and running it for a while . This will get everything lubed up with no load. Also gives you a chance to trace down any noises that don't sound normal plus make adjustments. It's looking great and sounds very good.
Good day Yea our W-6 pipe was the same. Every time we bought new muffler my dad would cut about 6 ins. off. I didn't on 574 & sure enough bent it. Thanks
I bought a exhaust/intake manifold from Tractor Supply a few years ago for my 8N . It had a hell of a vacuum leak. Replaced the gasket, checked for straightness, it must of had a hole in the casting between the intake and exhaust. Steiner has pretty good stuff.
Look forward to seeing your new vids when they come out. It’s fun being a sidewalk superintendent, got a bit of a chuckle, you & Sr are human like the rest of us
I have an Allis Chalmers CA that I caught the muffler on a branch, which knocked it loose and exposed where someone had slipped a smaller diameter pipe into the manifold and clamped it to the muffler. Because the threads are mostly gone on the inside. Some old farmer fix.
Silver manifold does look nicer than the black. You were so lucky that pipe didn’t break off later when the body work was installed, would have been a disaster. Thanks.
Shit happens my friend! I also think the silver looks great on the new manifold. Looking forward to watching the first drive. I've watched this build from the beginning of the tear down to the almost finished product. Awesome channel squatch253
Hello Squatch253!! I had the same exhaust problem on a electric Generator set powered by this same engine about 4 years ago!! although my pipe was only tacked welded on in 4 equidistant spots I wound up cleaning up everything and done a little grinding followed by a continuous "more or less' weld around the pipe and manifold, repainted it, and installed the rest of the system with muffler and new heavy flex pipe that went down to where the exhaust was supposed to come out of the generator unit subframe. This unit had been mounted on a small trailer frame with two small axles so it was somewhat portable by towing it to where it was needed. the Gen head was 18 KW 240volt 60hz.
You better be driving it pretty soon. Add much more and she won't fit out that door. Great set of videos, that machine is so nice. Function can be beautiful.
I see it is studs on the manifold that makes it a lot easier I find it amazing how quickly manifold bolts can seize. Seized manifold bolts can be a real pain to remove. I think you should strip those from wheels, It is fun for the children to watch them turn. I dount meat pin strip, three or four strips straight across the wheels. Very long ago I saw equipment done up that way, I asked the owner about it he said said he was having problems with wheels including tires going missing at night so he painted his up and surprisingly no got stollen. That old man was fun to work around, he was one entertaining character.
I would hate to be Squatche's car dealer. I just got a used Dodge Journey with a new paint job with red paint with metal cream added that looked perfect when we got it. The allwheel drive emblem in the back looks like the only chrome piece re-used. I am not joking when I walked up to it at the dealer standing right beside it I thought it was brand new. Have been taking pains to keep it looking that way even here in winter.
there was an old school welder had his shop across from the IH dealer he could weld cast iron with cast iron rod fusion rods and copper flux with a gas torch, he would take a new pipe union saw off about a half inch if a cast iron one and fusion weld it ti the damaged manifold.. i learned how to do this kind of welding when in my machine tool degree
Yep ! I have a friend that just bought a D 4 this morning!! A 6u2001 with 136 hours showing !!! And i thought of you ! We need to find a book. And a operator's manual .
The proper way to have secured a mild steel pipe to a cast iron manifold would have been to braze it, not weld. I can tell you are into originality but if you want an easy time removing exhaust nuts in the future then use brass nuts. The brass will protect the studs from rusting as much and they cannot rust together like steel nuts and steel studs will. The silver looks much better than the black hole the other manifold created. :)
Thank you for the video and good decision on the silver manifold it looks good! like you said better it breaks now then later with all the nicely painted sheet metal in place!
I would have liked to see the head-side of that new manifold. I bought a new "High Performance" manifold from Steiner for the neighbors H. It was not flat when it was delivered. It would have been 1/16" (or better) from sealing where the last machining pass had not cleaned up the sealing surface of the lower edge of the exhaust port on #1. I like Steiner's... they're usually my parts source of last resort. But, that manifold should not have been shipped. At the time, it was all hands on deck for first cutting hay... no time to send it back and wait for a new one (and the original had a broken carburetor mounting ear). So, my machine shop charged me another $35 to make it flat. The shop also told me that there was no excuse for the problem. There was more than enough metal for the manufacturer to have made it properly flat when they manufactured it... they just didn't make the last cut that it needed. I'd like to see (and hope) that this was a one-off.
I would have still put a little antiseize on the manifold threads, you can get it a little tighter, wont corrode, & you can get it off if needed, just sayin , i personally would have, you guys do great work though...
Nice that it didn’t fall of on the new paint. That would be nasty. Do you ever have trouble with the carb icing up, or frosting up we call it here, in the cold damp weather, say around 32 degrees and damp weather. How does the carb get some warm air to prevent icing up. Or maybe you don’t have that trouble. I know I do on my 1951 Ferguson tractor.
I understand you won't fix and use that part. But some people can't afford to purchase a new replacement like that. I hope you set it aside for a swap meet or post in a forum. We had a dickens of a time locating a manifold for the Case SC when ours broke.🤔
Silver does look better, I missed the brand of high temp you use, can you tell me again what brand and where you got it, thanks Squatch for all the time you spend on these videos for us to watch.

Nice there is good aftermarket support for those tractors. Even better when something aftermarket actually fits like it is supposed to!
Looks good and GREAT attitude with no blaming or cussing because of failed manifold.
It has been a pleasure watching senior and you totally restore this tractor!. Thanks!
Well how about that you were right that was lucky that the weld let go know before you completed the hood and put it in service ! Nothing to be embarrassed about...you guys are great....looking forward to the drive
That is one sharp looking tractor. It runs just as well. I am looking forward to the first drive.
Of ALL the possible things that could have gone wrong that was VERY minimal. Beautiful job on the two tone.
Your build, your choices. Nice work sir.
I am waiting for the silver pinstriping of the front wheels.

Should be easy enough to do. :-)
I came to the comments to say exactly this
That would be sweet.

The silver paint really makes that baby pop.
Nice work. I'm actually looking to pick up a 560 diesel and a 234 picker for a game on restoration.
Nicely done. Wish you would have gone into the signal dept. when you worked for bnsf Thanks for the great videos.
Yep, the touch of silver adds to a better look

That M is looking pretty sharp now, and agree the silver manifold looks good, not sure about the black fan though 👍
Quick fix. Sure beats discovering there’s an issue on the inside of the tractor tractor. Great work!
I heard your elbow click as you tightened that exhaust stack. Nice job.
Silver manifold does look nicer than the black. You were so lucky that pipe didn’t break off later when the body work was installed, would have been a disaster. Thanks.

The silver manifold set does break up the 'all red' scheme,...but that red is beautiful too!
👍👍 the silver does look better I think.
I'm sure the deer would have appreciated a buffet table of garden scraps while they danced the night away.
Maybe next year....

It looks way better with that gray manifold the red drop tube makes it pop out better
Thank you for the video and good decision on the silver manifold it looks good! like you said better it breaks now then later with all the nicely painted sheet metal in place!
Dang nice tractor sir...
Sent himself to the wood pile to cool off.
Some Anti-Seize is highly recommended on manifold nuts and especially the exhaust pipe. Stainless Pipe recommended.
The silver looks real good, Now if only you could get the silver front wheels.
I am not familiar with farm all front wheels but are able to accept trim rings. If posable paint a set and they match the rear from across the field
I would have liked to see the head-side of that new manifold. I bought a new "High Performance" manifold from Steiner for the neighbors H. It was not flat when it was delivered. When you said "set back" and walked toward the engine area ,I was thinking far worse than the bad exhaust manifold.
I would have still put a little antiseize on the manifold threads, you can get it a little tighter, wont corrode, & you can get it off if needed, just sayin , i personally would have, you guys do great work though...

Eh things happen. There comes a time when you're fed up and just buy a new part instead of dealing with the old one. Nice job as always
Yet they are still able to repair the old one as well. Clean out the old pipe and re-tap the threads...
