A long time ago I left my high school boyfriend behind on a different continent to start a new life in America. I went back last year for our 30th HS reunion, and when this song played at one of the parties, we just stared at one another across the room for 4 minutes. No words were needed. Fortunately we are both happily married with children now, and friends with each other too, but boy did this masterpiece bring back all those memories and emotions of young, intense love that never had its happy ending. Taylor Swift, such a poet and a skilled storyteller!
there’s just something that hits different with this song. ever since the first listen. the melody, the piano, the lyrics... from the start to the end, it’s a complete masterpiece. i don’t want this song to end- the build up in the bridge, the transition from “i dropped your hand while dancing” to “she’ll...hold your hand while dancing”, the emotion conveyed in her voice, it’s all indescribably beautiful. and i haven’t even been in a relationship, yet this song makes me cry! 🥲 the storytelling with the whole album is just phenomenal.
This song made me feel what i felt when i heard last kiss and all too well. It's like a story book in your head and imagery that's just so heartbreaking and beautiful.
“bustling crowds or silent sleepers you’re not sure which is worse.” this part is so brilliant. to think that sometimes, we don’t know if we want to be with people so we won’t feel lonely or be alone but we feel lonely.
I always looked at it as if he doesn't know if bustling crowds in the train would be worse because crowds of people would see him in pain, weeping. Whereas if the train was full of silent sleepers, no one would see him bawling, but they would hear him in the silence of everyone's slumber. So the person is contemplating if bustling crowds would be worse than silent sleepers.

"Your Midas touch on the chevy door" Midas is from Greek mythology whom anything he touch turns to gold. So he touched the car and it turned to gold. But can a car go somewhere with gold tires? No. So even tough their relationship was beautiful and golden and shiny, it wasn't moving forward What a genius.
The way I interpreted it is that he turned everything he touched "into gold" meaning he made it better. He could make something as plain and ordinary and a chevy seem grand...

yh it does. She clearly feels bad for him as he really wanted to move forward but had to say no because she wasn't ready breaking his heart because he probably wasn't expecting that. “Sometimes you just don’t know the answer, til someone’s on their knees and asks you.” I can’t even begin to explain how relatable this is. Sometimes you really don’t know what you want until you’re forced to make a decision.
i absolutely love that she used "tapestry" among all other things. tapestries are cultivated with such detail, and once ripped, the damage is almost irreversible. the tapestry of love that they've created took a lot of time, effort, and patience. she's aware that even if someone will patch it up, the scar that she left will be there, always.
I also love it because it reminds me of carole king another brilliant songwriter from the 70s she has an album called “tapestry” and she presented taytay person of the decade!!

"Champagne Problems" is a song about how a person is preparing to propose to their lover. The person has already informed their family and their friends, who are all ready to celebrate and applaud once the engagement was done. The person is using their mother's ring to propose. The person even prepared what to say when they would propose. But before they could say anything, the lover ran away, because the lover thought that they weren't enough for the person. The lover couldn't give a proper reason as to why they can't marry the person. The lover says that they didn't know what to answer until the person went down on their knees. Everyone says the lover would have made a lovely bride, but it's a shame that they're already confused and conflicted on their own. Because the lover turned him down, the person booked a night train to get out of the place, so they could sit there all alone while hurting. The lover says one day that the person will find someone else who will say yes to them. Someday their friends group ( they are not sure they'll ever be able to say "our friends" again, because they won't be able to face the person or any of their friends) will get over the initial shock and then maybe one day they'll deck the halls again for when the person feels ready and finds someone to propose to again who will say yes for sure. This problem, that the lover broke the person's heart might not be a nationwide issue or that big of a deal to most people, because soon everyone will move on and forget all about it. The person and lover included. But at the moment, it does seem like a big problem. Taylor is a literary genius♥

Just a bit ago, me and my ex ended our 4-month relationship. He's a big Swifties and because of it, I got to listen to Taylor's music a lot more. One of our last words before saying goodnight and putting an end to us, he told me to listen to champagne problems. Now that he is sleeping, I finally listened to this song and got to know his side of our break-up more and more. He knows that breaking-up would be the best for both of us. I know that he still has feelings for me and will want the best for me. If you got to read this comment, I want you to know that I will remember your "champagne problems" and "I was enchanted to meet you" and most importantly, I truly wish all the best things for you. Always. 💮🍰

I may be old, but I'd rather like to be a Swiftie, also.
Lol I know! 😂 I heard a rumor that they wrote this song for Selena Gomez, after she and Justin broke up since he was seen with a ring, I read about it in some article. It’s an interesting theory, Selena has been working on her mental health so it kinda makes sense
@@melissaarodriguez i doubt that, justin cheated on selena, i doubt taylor would describe justin as “Midas.” i read somewhere that taylor was dating some guy who went to Auburn back in the day who proposed to her & thats what its about but also don’t know the validity of that
I can actually see that happening, she's been relevant for so long and has maintained her light. I bet the future generations will still listen to her songs decades later, just like what we do today with the songs of famous singers many years ago.
"How evergreen, our group of friends" Shes using evergreen trees (Trees that dont loose foliage at any time of the year) as a metaphor to show that the ones closest to her never lose their color, they never strip away to something or someone different. They shine year round to her.
"Don't think we'll say that word again" Maybe it's because she believed her group of friends were evergreen and will always stay with her. But they left her or cheated her which broke the trust and she's never gonna trust anyone else like she did earlier and know that no freind stays forever.
I think the how evergreen is more sarcasm because then she says “and soon they’ll have the nerve to deck the halls that we once walked through” so that they’re not really friends that stick if that makes sense
I have a theory that the songs they wrote together are all Joe's stories from not-joe's perspective, and some (maybe not all) are true/semi-autobiographic. Like Joe asked someone to marry him and this happened with her saying no, basically, and Taylor wrote the song based on his experience from his exes point of view. And since the speaker's ex in the song has a new fiance that would point to the idea that Joe has asked Taylor to marry him. 🎉🎉🎉
I think it's about cancelling or running away from the wedding after saying yes. Edit: Sorry guys I got the meaning now. Its about rejecting a proposal not running away from a wedding cause you never said yes.

I love that lyric so much because one doesn’t drop glass on purpose. She didn’t mean to hurt him and she didn’t mean to lose her feelings for him (or whatever made her say no). I love her songwriting
I love how she used "Your midas touch on the Chevy door" as a reference to how like he/she maybe opened the Chevy car door and turned even the Chevy into a gold car door kinda like how even he/she had such priceless behavior" And how she used "november flush and your flannel cure" like how in november cold her face flushes bcuz she's cold, and he/she hands over their jacket or flannel to make her feel warmer.. And how she used " till someone's on their knees and asks you" and not "down on one knee" like the person literally begged.. *THIS IS ABSOLUTELY GENIUS*
I think alcoholism is one of the hardest additions to beat. Your whole life you will be surrounded by it. It's everywhere. Pubs, bars, clubs, holidays even family events. One of the hardest things someone will ever have to go through and I applaud anyone who is strong enough
I love her choice of words there.. “crestfallen” is a more specific word than “heartbroken,” it means disappointment rather than just “sadness” and I think it fits the situation perfectly
Sometimes I just like to think Taylor Swift and Eminem are poets with supernatural powers Idk how they do it As much as both get hate, they're goats confirmed, as much as people like to deny it

there’s just something that hits different with this song. ever since the first listen. the melody, the piano, the lyrics... from the start to the end, it’s a complete masterpiece. i don’t want this song to end- the build up in the bridge, the transition from “i dropped your hand while dancing” to “she’ll...hold your hand while dancing”, the emotion conveyed in her voice, it’s all indescribably beautiful. and i haven’t even been in a relationship, yet this song makes me cry! 🥲 the storytelling with the whole album is just phenomenal.

“bustling crowds or silent sleepers
you’re not sure which is worse.”
this part is so brilliant. to think that sometimes, we don’t know if we want to be with people so we won’t feel lonely or be alone but we feel lonely.
@@amna6842 same..the person who relates to this would rather cry in silence and ashame than live a life feeling no guilt and masking the pain ..this clearly is about someone who wanted to do right...and now just tries to grieve in peace.. Great memories from a lovely woman, champagne problems.. like its not allowed to exist..men don't hurt etc..yet crestfallen on the landing, every broken man knows..
"Your Midas touch on the chevy door"
Midas is from Greek mythology whom anything he touch turns to gold. So he touched the car and it turned to gold. But can a car go somewhere with gold tires? No. So even tough their relationship was beautiful and golden and shiny, it wasn't moving forward
What a genius.

The saddest part is when she says “you won’t remember all my champagne problems” at the end. Unless his marriage fails it never says if the marriage is a successful one lol or a short lived one.
taylor swift wrote this song referring to someone she knows who is funny but fckd in the head,, she got that inspiration from this person's personality ive read a post before one of her friend ig... although this song and the rest of the songs on folklore are base on fiction but this one is the masterpiece the lyrics just flow like a river beautifully at the same time it's the most sad song on the album
then who is the person @kelie? folklore is fiction, but i kind of agree that still we don't know if all the stories are fiction we could say mix of a fiction and real characters.. we don't know.. as youve mentioned Taylor wrote this song to someone she knows who is "funny, fcked in the head" soTaylor Swift created a sad song story to that person?, well that is why Taylor is a queen of storytelling her imagination is out of this world but this song its like a tragic movie a girl rejected the guy's proposal sad sad story ...

I woudn't say we grew up. We are now full of problems and not believing in love anymore. It's actually sad.
I love how after she says “I couldn’t give a reason” there’s a break in the lyrics for her to “run away to the train”

I have a theory that the songs they wrote together are all Joe's stories from not-joe's perspective, and some (maybe not all) are true/semi-autobiographic. Not English, it's literature.
Omg fr!

ALL TOO WELL PT 2
Waahhh same thoughts.
i knew from the first couple of notes it’s just like all too well
All Too Well + New Year's Day 😍
reminds me of cornelia street!!
EXACTLY!!! As SOON as I heard those same chords...Jesus Christ I tell you. All too well is my. SONG.
This song reminds me of him... I know it's not about one sided love but the line "One for the money two for the show I never was ready so I watched you go"😭 reminds me of the moment when he left from my life not even knowing that I love him since the first day I ever saw him... But he was my bestfriend and I don't wanna loose him so I never told him because I thought that he would hate me after knowing that I love him... 🥀💔
Do we agree that just like "All too well", "New year's day", "Cornelia street", "August", we needed a music video for this disgustingly brilliant masterpiece?
Not that it matters but I made an animated music video for champagne problems and put a bit of New Year’s Day in it too because I 100% agree I wish we had music videos for there’s masterpieces!
ALL MY FAVE FROM TAYLOR ARE LISTED 😍
We got a whole 10 min movie for ATW :)))
I agree for atleast Chamagne problems and Cornelia street for sure!!!! All of Taylor's songs deserve it though...

Normal people: I was cold and he gave me his jacket
Taylor Swift: November flush and your flannel cure
I always wondered what that lyric meant.
I never knew what it means tooooo! This makesss so much sense
OHHHHHHHH I GET THAT LYRIC NOW OMG
It could also mean that he gave her a hug. That embrace heals her.
Normal person: "He was a gentlemen who opened the car door for me and gave me his jacket when I was cold"
Taylor Swift: "Your midas touch on the Chevy door, November flush and your flannel cure."
SHE'S A GENIUS.
Normal people: I broke his heart
Taylor Swift: Your heart was glass I dropped it
copied
exactly!
It's pure art
queen shit
I CRY EVERY TIME I HEAR THAT.
now I'm crying btw
yeah this song is freggin underrated. And I hope it stays lik that so ppl wont ruin it by using it in every reels and evry videos. We want this song to live only in our hearts
this is one of the rare songs where we're on the pov of someone who hurt a person who genuinely loved them.. yet being so sorry about it, and wishing things were different but.. just can't force her self to give that kind of love back..
I did that once.
Reputation: "Swimming in a champagne sea"
Folklore: "Filled the pool with champagne and swam with the big names"
Evermore: "Champagne problems"
She also puts champagne emoji in her posts, and in vid of you need to calm down she's holding champagne 😂😭💜
All too well: “maybe this thing was a masterpiece before you tore it all up”
Champagne problems: “she’ll patch up your tapestry that I shred”
*Hey Swifties (◕ᴗ◕✿) I've covered Willow Song By our lovely Taylor. Hope you will listen to it. That's on my channel♡*
@vegangoldfish I heard it
Beginning piano has the same chord progression as All Too Well also 😭
Funny how I read the lyrics the same time it played on the video
Yeah...mate........
Usually, I don’t listen to Taylor Swift but something about this song just hits different
You should listen to exile!
"Because I dropped your hand while dancing" What a stunning line, Taylor is writing tragic love stories while in love. That is some "contrarian shit".
She is very talent
I’m sorry bur can you explain to me what it means? I don’t really understand it :(
Champagne problems is a song about when someone loves you but you’re not sure that you love them back. The line means that she left him while they were dancing and she now sort of regrets it but knows that he will be able to move on to someone new.
