- State and federal agencies cited a man after his dog was caught on camera harassing a Hawaiian monk seal at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park several weeks ago. #shorts
There's a law that dogs are not allowed on any of the beaches in Hawaii. This law was issued in the early 70s . This law was because dog's were attacking people and pooping on the beaches in Hawaii.
"Dogs" is plural, and "dog's" is possessive.

Monk seals are a protected species. That's why the dog owner is in trouble.
It seems like a fairly innocent exchange. The dog was just curious. He didn’t touch the seal. I feel bad for the man.
They’re an endangered species here in Hawaii and you’re not supposed to be near them when they are on the beach like that. Also as the person stated in the first comment you aren’t supposed have dogs walking on the beach like that as well as leash laws. Feel bad for not knowing other state’s laws before making an idiotic comment.

Seals lay on the beach to digest food because they can't swim as fast when they've just eaten. The dog bothered it so much that the seal went back into the water before it was ready to, meaning it is more vulnerable to being eaten by a predator. If it were a quick interaction that would be understandable, but he stayed and let his dog keep bothering it. This guy should move back to the mainland

Good. Keep your pet on a leash. That monk seal was resting its blubber, just chilling, looking like jello with its cute eyes and whiskers… meanwhile that dog is coming up in its space aggressively and barking… very annoying for anyone…. Imagine that was you chillin and some random comes up to you on the beach screaming at you starting crap…
Yeah the owner should know better. Everyone and everything living deserves a little “me time” without being harassed..

How is a curious dog barking at what he probably thinks it is another dog harassment? The seal wasn't even touched, and the dog moved away pretty quickly. I heard Hawaiians had massive sticks up their butts but lord, this is a bit much.
it's a wild animal, the man's dog could have picked a fight with a seal 10 times it's mass and got the dog hurt, it's good he's facing charges because he put the seal, the dog and himself in possible danger from that seal if it decided to attack the dog only for the man to step in only to be attacked. Barking is also a form of aggression so that dog is lucky the seal chose not to throw down.

The seal was not only just trying to sleep but the dog and the man ran the risk of being attacked
